We know how it goes, I remember Houllier saying he could buy an English player for £10 Million and get a player of equal quality abroad for about £5 Million. He had a point, and that point still stands today. However I've been picking up on a few comments made by people, and the thought of us signing someone English fills many people with dread. Now I know, Paul Konchesky doesn't sound as exotic as Josemi. Yes, there aren't many good English players about. But don't go tarring them all with the same brush. With such a multi cultural and diverse fan base, it doesn't really matter to anyone whether there is anyone local or English in the squad. Now it doesn't really matter to me, as long as they are good enough they are good enough as far as I'm concerned. But I still want to see the best of British or more importantly the best of Liverpool in our squad. Liverpool is bastion of footballing talent, talent that is wearing the blue of Everton as opposed to the red of Liverpool. We as a city have proced fine talent, Fowler, Owen, Carra, Gerrard. Baines and Warnock to name a few. The quality is there, it's always been there and hopefully always will be, and we need to harness that talent, hence why I think it's brilliant news that training ground and academy may be merged. But it's not about local talent, it's also about English talent. It's very easy to poach youngsters from the continent, looking for someone with flare rather than brute force, or the stereotypical English player. But it's a new era in British Football, the likes of Bale, Adam Johnson skill full and fast wingers rarely seen in Britain are coming through the ranks thick and fast. Not only that, but Joe Cole (When he wasn't shit), and Shaun Wright Philips before he joined Chelsea where players we really should have been in for. I hope that whatever policy our new owners implement in the transfers, that they implement ones that really harness the talent of young British players. I want the best players to play for Liverpool, but more importantly I want the best local and english players playing for Liverpool. Believe it or not Britain and Liverpool have produced some of the greatest players the game has ever seen, we need to be in for that talent. We need to get that talent and mould them into Liverpool players. It's incredibly easy to send scouts abroad, invest x amount of money in about 5 youngsters hoping you find the next Messi. But rarely does it come to fruition, and the likes of Pachecho find themselves hyped up beyond belief. As someone who supports his national side, I want to see a return to the days of 2001. When the national squad was occupied with our talent, the best of Liverpool as a city, and the best of Liverpool as a club.
