Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. We played this lot in this competition at Anfield a couple of years ago, in a game that finished 3-3 after Taki's late leveller. We put out a side with the likes of Bradley, Koumetio, Morton and Neco Williams, along with more experienced squad players like Queef, Kostas and Ox. Vardy quickly put the visitors 2-0 ahead, showing his pace, positional awareness and clinical finishing to beat Queef in the Liverpool goal. Ox got a goal back after firing home following a Bobby lay-off, but not long afterwards we were undone again. To be fair to Maddison it was a peach of a strike from distance. Diogo was introduced as a sub in the second hald, and he burst onto Taki's through-ball to fire the ball past Schmeichel into the far corner. It was game on again, but we still needed to find a goal to take it to penalties (there is no extra time if all-square at full time). We got it thanks to Taki, who showed great composure to chest Milly's hopeful cross down and shoot hard and low into the bottom corner. He missed in the subsequent shoot-out but, thanks to Queef's heroics when twice saving from Leicester's efforts, Diogo was able to hammer in the winner and book us a place in the semis. We would go on to win the trophy after beating Arsenal and then Chelsea. Leicester were perhaps surprisingly relegated last season as they never looked like one of the worst 3 sides in the division. They couldn't defend for shit though, and the goalscoring had begun to dry up. A change of manager and the sales of a number of key first-teamers later, and they've looked like the strongest side in the second tier, in similar form to ourselves. It's hard to know how strong a side they will put out. Will they look to continue their momentum, or will they look to prioritise the league in the hope of securing an immediate return to the top flight? Who knows. I would hazard a guess that Jurgen will do something similar to what he did in Linz, only starting with Diogo and Cody, with Lucho and Darwin dropping to the bench. I think he will want to give both Baj and Doaky another start, along with Endo and Grav. A chance to show that the starting XI's performance in that game was more down to rustiness of individuals than any lack of quality. Whatever we do, I hope we don't treat the game as a nuisance and instead look to progress. It's at home, we'll have the crowd behind us, and it's a chance to give several players an opportunity to build up some rhythm. Just like in Linz, keep a strong bench. Concentration, composure, attitude and application as always. Don't do anything silly. Get it done!
