  1. Ok, I've seen Simon's thread and I'm a little bit annoyed by it for reasons I'll keep to myself. But I think there's an issue that needs to be aired for debate, and someone's going to have to step forward and do it, so I will. Should Dalglish remain at Liverpool FC in the current circumstances, and is his presence making it impossible for Roy to do his job as manager? It's clear that Kenny wanted to throw his hat in the ring for the managerial position, and was dissuaded by Purslow and Broughton from doing so on the basis they saw a 'bigger role' for him at the club. It's equally clear that their is at least a sizable minority of our fans who see him as an alternative to the current incumbent, and are prepared to be vocal about it - and let's not beat around the bush, it must be unpleasant to hear the fans singing for someone else knowing it's directed at you. So the question stands for debate. Does Kenny's presence undermine Roy? Will Roy always be looking over his shoulder while Kenny is there? And if so, should Kenny be removed from holding a position at the club, other than as a guest on match days? For my part I will openly admit that when I knew Kenny had put himself forward for the managerial position, then I wanted him to get it. I don't buy into the theory that he'd be useless because he's been out of the game for so long, because he's never stopeed watching football or talking football. But it wasn't to be, and faced with a stark choice between Roy and the SFG, then I prefered Roy (which I stand by), even though I really did not think he was the right man for the job. For me, when Roy took the job he couldn't have been ignorant of the fact Kenny had wanted the job (via newspaper reports and Paul Dalglish's social blogging), and if I recall correctly he even spoke to Kenny about it. There didn't appear to be an issue. Things are going wrong. But I don't see Kenny forcing Roy to pick the players he has in the positions he has. I don't see Kenny forcing Roy to set the team up to defend deep in two banks of four and mark space. I don't see Kenny forcing himk to leave Torres isolated up front. And I don't see Kenny forcing Roy to hit long balls trying to treat Torres like a 'target' man. Those are things Roy has been doing for 35 years in various jobs, so I don't see how Dalglish could be said to have influenced Roy's thinking in that regard. I also don't see Kenny sitting on his shoulder directing his press conferences and interviews (albeit he's not been as bad as people make out - it's just that sometimes he really needed to shut up for his own sake). So for me, no, I don't think Kenny has had any effect on his management of the team. Like I said, I think that hearing fans call someone elses name, and knowing that it's really directed at you, must be deeply unpleasant. But it hasn't happened from the first game of the season, nor is it constant - only for a brief period during two games - and near the end not the beginning. I'm disappointed in Roy because I thought he'd genuinely embraced something new, starting with the away game against Napoli. But the last two games have been been tactically regressive, and judging by his Stoke post-match comments, a deliberate one in that game. In conclusion, I'm happy with Dalglish being at the club. I think the chanting is both unfortunate, and doesn't sit well with me at all, but I don't think Kenny's presence is stopping Roy doing his job.
