ALAN SHEARER has overseen a complete revolution in just under three weeks since he was put in temporary control of Newcastle. Out has gone the laid-back attitude of former chief Joe Kinnear, who was rarely on the training pitch. In has come has a series of scientific approaches designed to keep Newcastle in the Premier League, including: A tightening of all discipline; More gruelling training sessions; Team bonding sessions; See below.. Mandatory ice baths after training and games; Increased emphasis on time-keeping; Heart monitors to be worn during training. Newcastle travelled down to Chelsea on Friday, a day earlier than planned so the first team could go out for a meal. Such bonding has now become commonplace since Shearer took over. A source said: "The change has been amazing. There has not been a stone left unturned. Training went up 300 per cent for his first session and it has stayed there. The system is more professional now. It was a lot more haphazard before. "The treatment room is clearing. Players don't want to be there until four or five o'clock in the afternoon. There has been a great impact. He is making lots of small differences which will benefit the club in the long term." Shearer and No 2 Iain Dowie now lead training with Colin Calderwood and Chris Hughton relegated to backseat roles. The impact of Shearer has not gone unnoticed at boardroom level. Newcastle have put all contract talks on hold until it has been decided what division they will play in next season. But Shearer has been in regular contact with managing director Derek Llambias and Mike Ashley since he took control at the start of the month and has impressed them both with his diligent approach. Shearer will not be drawn on his own long-term future but can see his methods changing the ideology at Newcastle. Spirit He said: "I've seen the psychological mood of the dressing room improve. It was pretty despondent when I came in. "Morale wasn't great but I think, particularly with last week's draw at Stoke, there is a belief and a little bit of confidence that we can get out of the mess we are in. "We will approach the Spurs game the same way we approached Stoke and try to win it." Despite the upturn in spirit at Newcastle since Shearer's shock return, games are running out to keep the club in the Premier League. He added: "I'm under huge pressure. It is hard work but I'm enjoying it. I'm definitely getting a buzz out of it, without a doubt, but it's been manic and it's been crazy with the amount of work we have had to do." I never thought 'going down' could be so much fun... Play with my balls... it's science! Looks like you're getting well hard, there, Al!
