BLOOD RED: Sky falls in on Jamie Redknapp’s Liverpool FC views
Mar 27 2010 by Dominic King
SKY pay their pundits handsomely and ensure that they are not inconvenienced when getting to games – chaffeur driven cars come as standard.
With that in mind, you would think that their observations would be shrewd, intelligent and perceptive, as they have plenty of time to think about what they will say.
You could, perhaps, forgive Andy Gray for wittering “this is what I expect to happen unless the unexpected happens” during last Sunday’s Final Word programme but no there are no excuses for Jamie Redknapp.
When reflecting on LIverpool’s 4-1 win at Old Trafford last season, Redknapp said “Xabi Alonso was sensational spreading the ball to Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard that day.”
Was he really?
Would this be the same Xabi Alonso that had been injured against Real Madrid on the Wednesday prior and saw Lucas take his place?
It was poor from someone who should know better; someone who is in danger of tarnishing the reputation he built for himself at Anfield.
Mind you, that wasn’t the worst part of Sky’s coverage – a smiling Michael Owen talking about the title took that particular accolade.
