This New Year I went down to the soon to be in-laws for a few days and ended up playing a 9 year old at Monopoly. He's a bit of a maths wizz not to mention a smart arse so being the responsible Uncle I am I absolutely slaughtered him and ended up making him cry as I cantered to victory and he was left destitute and ruined. There was a similar incident the playing Cranium as well.
It's not that I set out to make him cry, I just don't let kids win just because they're kids. I don't think you should teach kids that they win every time or that they're particularly special because they bat their eye lids and get their own way. Life is full of disappointments and a game of Monopoly isn't something to get in a twist over
I like to think I motivated him and he will practise for 12 months until the next time I see him.
Was I an arsehole?
