  1. Cat Power - Sun.

Another band/artist that I've never heard of.

I notice from seeing the track listing that number 4 features Iggy Pop.

    Track 1 Ruin

A decent (ish) pop song, slightly atmospheric, not a bad starter.

    Track 2 Cherokee

The voice isn't bad at all, slightly different feel than the opener. Not too bad.

    Track 3 Sun

More raw and more of a dance opening. Continues with the same atmospheric feel. Ok, as good as the others.

    Track 4 Nothin' but time

Step up Iggy, you're on lad.

I hope you got well paid for your time Iggy. He added depth to the warbling towards the end. Bowie style.

Track 5 Back in the days

Oh dear. Needed some Iggy Pop.

    Track 6 3,6,9

    No.

    Track 7 Human being

Better. Lyrics are ok, her voice is ok.

    Bored.

    Track 8 Cherokee (remix)

A song I've already suffered, remixed by someone I've also never heard of.

    Tracks 9, 10, 11

    Wrapping Xmas pressies now.

I gave it a fair trial and it was Guilty. Guilty as charged.

I had no idea what to expect, but as soon as I got a clip of the bird on the cover I thought "this is going to be spiritual, warbling bollocks".

    And it was.

Not my thing. I can see why people like it, so on that basis I'll give a 5/10.

On the basis of my tastes I'll give it 2/10.

On the basis of 'will I ever listen to this again or even remember it?' 1/10. or 0.

    Thank fuck that's over.

  2. I'd never heard of Exit Calm today and never knowingly heard one of their songs.

So I went to youtube and found that the album had been uploaded by some massive nobber called Carvalho Diablo.

"that can't be a good start" I said to myself.

    I proceeded anyway.

    Track 1 The Rapture.

Very good opening track, enjoyed that and surprised by it's intensity, normally openers are gentle affairs.

This had a Bunnymen and Joshua Tree era U2 feel about it. Maybe a touch of Everything must go Manics too.

    Track 2 Albion

Not bad, I prefer the opening track, but still good enough. This has more of a Stone Roses feel about in places. The Second Coming sound. Very Indie/90's rock/new wave feel about it.

    Track 3 Fiction

This is Stone Roses again. Again very 90's Indie Rock feel about it. Elements of U2 Bullet the Blue Sky chucked in.

    Good song overall.

    Track 4 When they rise

Again has a Bunnymen/Icicle Works and 90s Indie feel to it. Slower early tempo to it, but rise the same levels in places.

    Again enjoyed the song.

    Track 5 Higher Bound

In a similar Cast/Charlatans but more full sound version.

Whilst it was listenable, this was more Egg Bound than Higher Bound.

Weakest song on the album so far, maybe by design, less anthemic.

    Track 6 Holy War

Again a good, fuller sound Indie rock song, a similar template to tracks 1 and 3.

Probably the second best song on the album so far.

    Track 7 Promise

This is Second Coming Stone Roses again. A 4 and a half minute jam, that's been done before, that rises and falls in rocky melody.

    Track 8 Glass Houses

Again it's musically good, solid drum beat, well played and well delivered, it doesn't vary much from the other tracks, it rises to an Indie crescendo, anthemic and then falls to a more pulsing rhythm.

    Track 9 Open your Sky

What can I say that I haven't said before? It's another good, solid 90's Indie rock tune that starts slightly more like an atmospheric ballad.

But again, it's Stone Roses with a touch of The Cure post Disintegration. With 87-89 U2. In the best 3 songs on the album.

Having never heard of the band before I can say that I enjoyed listening to The Future isn't what it used to be.

It has been done before by numerous bands over the last 30 years, but at least it was done well.

I really like The Rebound the opening track, Fiction, Holy War and Open your sky.

It's not an album I'd buy but I would listen to it again.

It's well played and produced Indie Rock. You'd tell a mate to give it a listen.

Overall I'd give it a solid 7/10, had I never heard the 50 bands that had done it before, then I might have given it an 8.

Glad I listened to it though.

  3. I suspect that had everyone been fit and available the first choice would've been

    Chamberlain...Henderson ..Wijanldum.

I would play Wijnaldum centrally in that 3 and pick Milner ahead of Henderson.

As Chamberlain is out for the season I think Klopp sees his 'go to' Midfield 3 in important games as

    Henderson.. Wijnaldum.. Milner.

Currently, that is the tight 3 that I would go with also.

If we were playing a championship or lower division team, some rotation would be fine.

We're not. We are playing one of our main rivals who we face again on the weekend. Play our strongest possible side and bum them, giving us the psychological edge for the second match.

Playing Mignolet (crap) AND Moreno (megacrap) together with Lovren (out of match practice and liable to get the wobbles in the presence of M & M) is fucking suicidal and could hand them the edge for the weekend.

I'm inclined to agree with this sentiment. On the one hand, I'd love to win the League Cup again, I loved winning it in the 80's and once in the 90's and it is still a day out at Wembley and a major piece of silverware. On the other, the footballing landscape has changed and I accept that it is now the lowest priority.

BUT, it's 6 games from start to finish and a chance to get this "Klopp is a serial loser in finals" shite out of the way and it's a real confidence booster.

Obviously the League is far important and winning on Saturday night even more so,  but I don't want to see a line up of 11 names emptied out of a hat and expect a cohesive unit. We, like others, have done this many times before and it's painful to watch, especially for those fans who pay top wedge for the ticket.

It's a tragedy that this competition has become almost an allergy for most clubs. The years where we won 4 in a row were grand, I loved each one. The win in 95 felt like a breakthrough under Roy Evans and was a great day.

On balance, I'd rather not see Mignolet and Moreno start for us wherever possible, but our most important players currently are Alisson, VVD, Wijnaldum, Robertson, Salah and Firmino and I'd hate any of those to get injured for a while in this game.

I think a positive compromise can be reached without endangering vital players. A very good team can be put out, good enough to win the tie and I want us to do that.

Winning this Cup is easier than winning the FA Cup and the European Cup, so let's not put out a team that has never played together before and go out and beat Chelsea and see where we go from there.
