Transitioning over to vegan again and been getting into finding ways to use barely as I love the stuff.

For anyone who misses the taste of meat try cooking some barley up in these stock cubes. Veggie/vegan friendly and there is definitely a strong meaty(lamb) taste. Really nice stock, add some other bits and cook it up as a broth for Soba noodles aswell. If you can't be arsed to marinade any tofu just cook up some Shitake mushroom, throw in the cauldron marinaded tofu for a few second and slice some spring onion to go on top of the broth and soba

Don't think about adding any extra stock cube for a more intense flavour the salt will ruin it. Just add dried mushrooms to stock

Try these. Vegan Oxo Cubes. Game changers.

Yes it is. We need to already start learning lessons for the next one. We've had 5 in two decades, so we'll be having more. We need an organised, funded and coordinated global response.

Whhhooooaaa steady on there lad, bit much to ask is it not.

Lets continue to do what we have done to date: organise, properly fund and coordinate. You can have any 2 of those 3 but not all.

    Not directly about food, but...

Our utensils/knives are shit. As in the hondle is more likely to go through your hand before the blade goes through the meat.

I'm a tight cunt, so here's the deal.

At the minute, because of Brexit, us in the Emerald Isle are getting a bit of a tax break (until July when Revenue close the loophole). Basically anything with a value of €22 or less doesn't get charged VAT on this side.

So shopping with Amazon.co.uk, they take the UK VAT off and apply Irish VAT. But because of the loophole, we basically get the stuff tax free! Using Prime then gives you free shipping, so there are bargains to be had.

So after that spiel, if ye were looking to start out with decent knives and utensils, what would ye be looking for?

I'm not expecting ye to go looking through Amazon for me.

But I don't even know the names of knives! My knowledge extends to "the small sharp one" and "the big one with the edges on it!".

    Sound.

I have a few Wusthof Classic knives and they are brutally sharp. I prefer the classic range : the handles have a bit of weight to them and are perfectly balanced.

If you are buying good knives invest in a decent sharpener. I use a stone but I am an OCD dick

There is definitely some interesting conversations to be had. Are these global giants going to retain massive office blocks in prime locations? They will want the option of the physical presence and probably will need to have the capability to have everyone in at the same time but paying today's rates for what will be 30%-40% occupancy can't be a runner. How the developers/investors react is anyones guess,  these blocks are generally owned day pension funds and the likes, they can't possibly expect to receive todays rate going forward. Same with shopping centres, there is a huge change on the way. It has the opportunity to revive small towns if done right.

The chat around the socially distanced water cooler is that a sizeable proportion of office space will be converted into residential space and that discussions are already underway regarding feasibility and costs.

    Watch this space.

  6. We do a lot of classical architecture projects: most of which I cant show as they are covered by NDA's.

These are a couple of examples over the last few years. The last could have been in the Juxtaposition thread!Lanesborough.JPGAs Built Capitals.JPGWesterlands 3.JPGIMG_0399.JPGWY.JPG

Not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy this type of work more than the spreadsheet inspired architecture which drives most buildings nowadays.

  8. Hard to chose a favourite but it is close between pan fried honey glazed salmon or Cullen Skink with traditionally smoked haddock and 3/4 milk to 1/4 double cream.

  9. I think he sees the game better than our forwards at the moment. I watched him closely and at times and he was looking into spaces expecting someone to be there when they were simply hugging the 18 yard line looking for a ball over the top.

  10. We used to have a static when the kids were young.

Every Friday me , Mrs Qwik , the 3 boys and 8 dogs all piled into a 3 bed caravan on the Norfolk Coast 2 mins from the beach, pub, fish and chip shop and amusement arcade. My mate had one directly across from me so there was the occasional small dry sherry partaken for medicinal purposes obviously.

It was not a huge site and we knew most of the people in vans around us which I must admit lead to us going full McCann on occasion (the dogs were always there).

Sold it when the kids started asking for phone credit rather than candy floss.

    Loved every minute of it.

Rather than being a rude cunt, please explain it for me please. If Scotland decided to go into full lockdown for a month and none of the rest of the UK did, then who would end up paying for this, would it be divided between everyone?

I wasn't having a dig at the Scots, I don't fully understand the formula and I await your explanation so I can.

Pressed on whether the UK Government would pay for Scotland to go it alone, he said: “That’s not something that has occurred.

"You know how funding to Scotland works, and I’m not aware of any changes to that."

It came as independent forecaster the Scottish Fiscal Commission pointed out SNP ministers are unable to borrow more cash for Covid-19 measures under strict fiscal rules.

As well as the UK funding for the job retention scheme, Holyrood has so far received around £3.5 billion from the UK Government for business support measures such as grants, the SFC said.

An update from the SFC said today: “The UK Government has announced plans to spend an additional £86 billion in 2020-21, to combat the effects of COVID-19.

"The Scottish Government is expected to receive £3.5 billion in consequentials.

“The fiscal responses required by both Governments are highly uncertain as the duration and scale of the response to COVID-19 is unclear.”

It said the cash flowing north from the UK Government - known as Barnett consequentials - “could therefore change significantly”.

And it warned: “With uncertainty about the level of funding received from the UK Government as well as the level of spending required in Scotland, it may be difficult for the Scottish Government to balance spending against available funding within the financial year.”

On borrowing extra cash, it warned: “The Scottish Government cannot borrow to fund any additional COVID-19 related spending.

“The fiscal framework allows the Scottish Government limited borrowing powers which can be used to fund capital spending and to mitigate the effects of forecast error for the devolved taxes and social security benefits.”

Ms Sturgeon was asked repeatedly today if the Scottish Government had spoken to the UK Government about the financial implications of Scotland easing restrictions at a different pace.

Pressed on whether there had been specific discussions about financial support if Scotland went its own way, she told a daily media briefing: "These discussions are ongoing all of the time and they will touch on a lot of different issues.

"The Finance Secretary here talks about the economic interventions all of the time, but we haven't got to a position yet where - it wouldn't be a meaningful discussion for me to phone up the Chancellor and say, 'Hypothetically, if something that we haven't decided yet and therefore don't know the detail of was to happen, what would you do?'

"In a situation like this, in the kind of real world we're dealing in, that's not helpful or meaningful for anybody.

"So we have to work our way through these things in a proper, orderly way."

And I am not sure I agree with the following but maybe you can go and insult them.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2020/10/19/scotland-wales-should-pay-lockdowns/

Powers have been handed down to Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh and they are entitled to use them as they see fit. But there should surely be one condition: they should pay for the consequences.

Lockdown might or might not be an effective way of fighting Covid-19, we can argue about that. However, one point is surely clear: it is shockingly expensive. The UK suffered a 20pc hit to the economy in the second quarter, the toughest period of lockdown.

England will end up having to pay the bill for policies over which it has no control, and that it is not following itself. If Wales and Scotland want a more draconian lockdown that is up to them. But they should also be willing to shoulder the higher taxes and debts that will come with it.

We already have devolved tax powers for the regional assemblies, and in the wake of Covid-19 the time has surely come to increase those.

    TLDR.

If I am right, Scotland are free to make a full lockdown decision because ultimately they don't pay for it. That's not me saying I don't agree with the lockdown, I do. There's an argument that free from the thoughts of cost you can do what is best for your people.

What it looks like Johnson is going to announce is Tier 5, just calling it tier 4 because apparently it matters somehow.

I am sure that within a week or less Johnson will have flip flopped again and we'll be in full lockdown.

If Peston's tweet is correct then I don't need to watch Johnson at 8pm, I'm an adult and I get that further measures are necessary. But I don't think it goes far enough.

Please explain how they do not pay for it. As far as I am aware Scots pay income tax , vat , corporation tax , inheritance tax and a plethora of others.

    What an imbecilic statement.

Mate of mine does that.  He used to go to all these exotic places but now just island hops around the Hebrides drinking single malt whiskey and nailing attractive farmer daughters.  Jammy bastard.

First part was the apprenticeship. He is now doing my dream job although restricting it to farmers daughters seems to lack ambition.

I know what will piss me right fucking off and it wont be the cunt hanging out the window with the machine gun. I'm pissed off now. Fuck you
