The stuff about Shaqiri going to Lyon has all gone a bit too quiet for me.
Apparently Lyon are trying to sell some bloke to Burnley to raise the money for incoming transfers. Isn't that the Burnley who have bought no-one in the last couple of years?

Audio quality was fine, I thought.

But we'll do less of it as it'll be more targeted and from a different part of the pitch.
You got me unsuccessful pressures will suffer.

Hence more measured.
Hence pressing won't be affected negatively as he's better at it than Naby. As well as tackling and intercepting better too.

Naby's right up there in pressing numbers consistently I think.
Not saying the pressing will fall off a cliff but Thiago will be more metronomic and measured.
Thiago's a more successful presser of the ball than Naby. Wins more tackles too.

Chamberlain was probably knackered from chasing his lost passes in the friendly on Monday. Poor thing. Nice lad though.
He was OK in that game I thought. Earned him a chance at a start which he consequently flushed down the toilet!

How are people judging the midfielders at our club?
Is it in comparison to what other midfielders do at other clubs (Pogba and Fernandes for example) and anything other than that means they are ineffective, is it based on what you want from a midfielder that may run counter to what our midfielders are actually asked to do?
Keita, for example, completed 95% of his passes including top 5 passes into the final third, highest number of defensive duels (figures from @samMcguire90). That's pretty much what a midfielder in Klopp's system needs to do.
Granted he didn't score a hatrick or get three assists, it's wasn't the best performance we've ever seen from a player and the prospect of an injury is always in the back of peoples minds but he can be a massively useful part of the team and far better than 6th/7th 8th choice midfielder.
Keita's good bits were in the first half. 2nd half he became a bit detached from the game a la OX. OX being crap 1st and 2nd half exacerbated the uneasiness.

Wasn't he the prick that hated Rafa and was dead snide about him?
That was probably Henry Winter.

If we’re looking to move him on to being someone else in then fine. If not then i’d keep him as he could come in handy.
He's being moved on to make game time for Elliot, I bet.

IMO no chance we will win the league without new blood. Midfield without Gini is too thin and the guys up front ( Salah excepted ) are not as potent as they were. Add to that question marks over Virg and Gomez getting back to full speed are worrying. I am very disappointed we haven't bought a midfielder and a striker to replace the hapless Origi.
I also don't agree we cant have injuries like last season. Older players , high workload and many that have had serious injuries that make them more prone to breaking down again. I can't imagine Klopp is altogether best pleased that the owners won't spend .
This is what worries me, while not as injury prone as matip and gomez, hendo et al are up there. Please don't make the same mistake again.

I dont think Hendo is quite the crock, last season's stats which were exceptional, is supposed to be. He normally plays at least 30 PL games and even then, Jurgen didnt play him every game when available.
That's what I thought but looking it up the last 6 years starts are: 20, 26, 21, 25, 24,15

I might be an outlier here but I am content with our business . We have lost none of our stars. Our older players are not out on the razzle and are not in decline . They can be as good as they were two years ago. Also I am chuffed we wont be seeing Mane or Salah playing put their best years for other teams. Only glaring weakness is back up to Trent .
Integrate Elliot and Jones and apart from my doubts in Neco I am happy enough.
Now i think we are in the shite say two or three years time but for this season it will do. No way we can have the injuries like last season.
You don't think with Henderson only managing 20+ PL games a season and Thiago being such a slow healer, that we need to reinforce in midfield?
-
Rashford out until October with surgery required for some long-standing shoulder problem. The fact he prioritized the euros and his holidays higher than surgery is bound to go down well.
-
Gomez will play as well. Our cup runneth over with CHs.

We've added another friendly to the schedule. Next thursday against Bologna.

United rumoured to be giving Varane about 102 million in wages over the next 5 years. That's close to 400k a week.
That's only a little more than their reserve goalkeeper gets.

I dont think he's definitively said it's time to move on. He's said he might have to move on but that's different.
It wasn't definitive, I think he was breaking the news to us gently. You know like, "its not you its me", kind of thing.

I'd written him off for the start of the season, if he makes the Hertha game surely he'll be ready for Norwich, or very soon thereafter.
Fantastic news, can't wait to see that high-line again.
