  1. I dont reckon Vidic will play.

He'll play, ferguson will be betting that Webb wouldn't dare walk him a fourth(?) time against us, and at OT, he'll get away with kicking Torres up and down.

Might open the door for Yossi or someone else to be the hero for us.

Just hope Insua puts in the best defensive performance of his life against Valencia or we could be struggling.

  2. What will matter is whether any of Benfica/Valencia/Athletico Madrid will fancy playing us.

I think we still have a massive reputation in Europe despite our poor form here.

If we can stop Insua being torn a new one in the games, then we'll be well capable of reaching the final.

Could be massive that we're at home in the second leg(s).

  3. Torres will get twatted in the first 10 minutes by one of their "world class" defenders.

Bacon face is an owld arse at heart and them used to be the rules years ago, so he'll be telling them to wind Torres up, especially as he's been a bit prone to having a moan this season.

Nando will have to just smile and wait his chance.

I know a few mancs and they've definitely gone quieter this week, and if they are not relishing facing Torres, you can imagine how Vidic must feel. Ha-ha!

  4. Also, wasn't it Webb who didn't give the fabregas handball a few weeks ago from stevie's freekick?

Yes it was, and when Gerrard went up to him after the final whistle to remonstrate, he could be seen mouthing "Not in front of the camera's Stevie".

Vidic will sleep well between now and the weekend knowing that if he gets battered for pace by Nando, all he'll have to do is fall to the floor with his hands in the air to get the free kick.

  5. Once we had the first 20 minutes out of the way we played possibly the best football we've seen this season, even allowing that it was Portsmouth who were the opposition.

Almost a year to the day from the famous (infamous?) " The shackles are off" comment by Gerrard after the Madrid game, I though I detected more of the kind of attitude we've hoped to see from some of our players this season.

Now it might just be several coincidences rolling into one, but it'll be interesting to see whether the same attitude, team etc are evident in the Lille and manc games.

  6. I am a member. I believe that SOS are doing as well as they can in the circumstances and am tired of people who compare them with the manc crowd, who are better funded and have tacit approval from higher up people at old trafford it seems.

I will continue my support by renewing my membership.

  7. I'm no financial expert, but it strikes me that we're about to enter a period of manoeuvering for position by interested parties.

I've always thought that there'd be a queue of buyers around Anfield if we came up for sale again and it was down to the 2 chancers to decide how much they were happy to walk away with as a profit.

Now it looks as though they are possibly panicking that unless they get someone interested, and quick, they might end up with very little given that failure to finish in the top 4 would seriously affect future income.

Like him or not I think Purslow will have a big influence on who we next get as owners and I only hope, being a died in the wool Red (?), he's able to use any influence he has to ensure it's people who will take us forwards, unlike the present "custodians".

Have to say I was relieved to read this from Nino (if it's not Spanish Paper Bollocks of course)

said Torres in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS.

‘To be competitive, we need four or five top-class players, better than are here now. Without reinforcements we will be battling again to make fourth place. I want to be competing next year to win the League and the Champions’ League or Europa League, but that will mean bringing in signings.’

  8. Most mancs I know (I know, I know) view us in the same light on this subject as we view Everton over the groundshare.

They just think we can't organise our own protests well enough and are trying to jump onto their better financially backed bandwagon.

Wonder what they'd have been saying had we carried on from last season?

  9. It's a pity we don't play on paper.

united have an attitude of mind when they play other teams that we used to have back in the day.

They believe they will win games and play accordingly, it scares the crap out of 80% of the teams they play and as such they have an advantage before a ball is kicked.

Not counting the psychological advantage they have over officials who don't seem to like upsetting them too much.

  10. Wouldn't a walk out be just as noticeable?

Supporters arrive at different times but once they are in the ground, they could all walk out together.

Perhaps 20 minutes before the end of a game as a tester?

As far as the colours thing goes, don't Madrid/Barcelona wave white handkerchiefs when they aren't happy with the teams performance? I know white tends to mean surrender in our culture but it'd be much more noticeable than black.

  11. Gerrards a fan just like us, hes hurting badly. Where you looking forward to this game after the Mancs tharshed Milan last night and here we where playing the channel 5 cup. He's only human. He's sulking more than not trying.

I don't think he is sulking, I think he's realised the season is a write off and he's not going to go full pelt and end up injured before the World Cup.

Might also be the reason one or two others appear not to be arsed.

  12. Secondly, as Slaven Bilic pointed out on MOTD2 after the Man City game (very refreshing to hear a pundit talk tactics for a change), a 4-2-3-1 formation only really works if your full backs overlap and help create space for the midfielders.

    QUOTE]

I was impressed at the way Bilic came across on that show.

    Seemed articulate, knowledgable and intelligent.

    Pity he's a former Blue.

  13. There isn't a manager/coach in the world who's good enough to come to Anfield unless they can win us the League in 2 to 3 seasons. That's the kind of pressure anyone would be under if they accepted the job. It's the worst job in the world for having your every move dissected and criticised apart from, possibly, Real Madrid.

But there's something in the way the players are at the moment that appears to be terminal, and when that happens it's only a matter of time until change happens.

I already feel sorry for the one who signs on the dotted line after Rafa goes.

  14. Every post on this thread should be sent to the Club and RBS.

That way they might start to realise that unless they get the club out of the mess it's in on and off the field, there'll be no club for them to leech money and support from.

Some great and sad feelings in this, from people who deserve much better for their loyalty and faith.

  15. I don't like to see any LFC manager sacked, i'd much prefer he would walk if we don't qualify for the CL or win the Europa League.

He should know when it's time if he's got any understanding of the Club and us supporters.

    But this situation can't continue.

  16. This is exactly where I find myself.

    Exactly.

Overall I think we're mainly a loyal bunch, I believe even the "anti-Rafa" brigade don't wish the fella any harm and, I dare say, would prefer him leaving to be on much more positive terms than would be the case if he went soon.

I can't comprehend whether the way in which the team plays is ALL down to the manager. He might well decide on the tactics before a game but surely, as professionals, the players MUST know when it's not working? Do they then blindly play on regurgitating the same old crap, or do they decide to change it (shackles off?) and be more positive? Are they that scared of Rafa that they carry on regardless?

I could handle us getting beat by some teams if we were more positive, but the dross we're producing in all our games, win, draw or lose, at the moment is inexplicable compared to the performances last seasons end with pretty much the same players.

  17. This debacle of a season goes on, and although i've said all along that Rafa should be given the chance until the end of the season to turn things around, now i'm not so sure.

I can't comprehend why he keeps trying to fit our players into unfamiliar positions (whether they play there well or not) as this reduces our effectiveness every time.

Play to your strengths is a saying that has always rung true, so how does playing Mascherano out of position work?

Had Rafa decided to throw caution to the wind and throw in the youngsters he'd have been bollocked by some for taking risks, unless of course it had worked out (a la Moyes/Ferguson/Wenger) personally i'd have gone with it as at least it could construed as being seen to have a go and put some of the wastrels we have as "first team" players under pressure for their positions.

But I don't get the square pegs in round holes we saw last night in Kuyt and Mascherano when Johnson and Riera for instance were both on the bench. If you're fit enough for the bench, you're fit enough to start or you shouldn't be htere.

He's thinking far too defensively and it's killing us.

The players have to take some of the blame as well though as we should have given Wigan more of a game than we did regardless.
