Dennis, by the time the UN has got its ass in gear millions are dead. The 'recourse' you talk about is a show trial in the Hague 20 years after the event for 10-15 people. I know which I'd rather have.
-
Sparta, 3's never a crowd JOIN IN!!!
-
Dennis, are you saying we shouldn't get involved in any military operation that doesn't directly threaten the UK? Perhaps I've got the wrong end of the stick but it sounds like it.
I'm sure we tried that once before, luckily we decided against it. Good job really as my German is terrible.

History is written by the victors after all.
'Carve her Name with Pride' was on TV this afternoon, she was our hero and a spy to the Nazis.
Without wishing to start a different row our military did an amazing job in Bosnia(when they were allowed by a weak UN).

Well a basic qualification is that they'd be willing to get shot, blown up or horribly maimed so that internet warriors and self-righteous idiots like you or I don't have to.

I struggle with the idea of people joining the forces. I see it in a similar way to the way I see religion. I know people that decide to do it, and I still like those people, but I just can't understand why they've had this lapse into mentalism. I find it ingherently wrong on a major level to sign up to a situation where you have no say in who you kill and why you're killing them. Very fucked up. We're all biased Rico, being aware of the bias and trying to drop as much if it in debates is the way to go.
I'm fine with meeting a stranger in a public toilet for back-rubs/cottaging/chats on foreign policy but I'm not such a deviant that I'd venture to Stockport of my own free will, what do you take me for?
Most of my mates were from poor families and it was a way out. At the time Uni was mainly for the rich and to be honest they were never going to be captains of industry. Plus in the 80s/90s there weren't that many jobs available for lads straight out of school. With the forces they knew they'd never get sacked, and have a great pension!!! Oh and most of them were already very good shots.
Damn, looks like another Christmas alone for me.

CUT THEIR FUCKING HEDS OFF.
I can't believe you mean that.
Lots of reading between the lines there, you know nothing of me but one thing you do know is that you are 100% right. Must be nice that.
We need a military, we might as well have a good one.

I think the idea is good, the sponsors are cunts as I said originally. For the record I think Iraq was a massive error, we'll be paying the price for years.
I've got lots of friends in the forces, some of the same guys were in Bosnia and a couple of others previously in the Falkands so I may be biased but hey ho that's life.
I'm only in Stockport so can be there in 20 mins, shall we say the Metropolitan bogs, trap 3?
-
I see, pithy response you've got there.
So, what do you want, a row about this war? All war? Awards? A nice back rub or a cuddle?
-
Is that aimed at me?
-
Of course you can, but you didn't start your post like that did you, it was just a pop.
For the record I think they do, but I'm not daft enough to realise that they wouldn't run with it if it wasn't populist or that they could drop it at any time. But for now, it's doing good.

Once again that's the responsibilty of the government, the campaign has raised awareness, raised cash to get the infrastructure in place so I cant see what the issue is. You can't blame the campaign if things are allowed to slide in future years.
-
Does it trivialise it or does it bring it to the attention of the masses? If the Sun had run a campaign soley on better treatment for troops do you think for an instant it would have got the mass of celebs behind it that allowed them an hour and half on prime time tv the week before Christmas? A documentary would have got a quarter of the viewers this show got and we wouldn;t be having this debate.
How many people with no connection to the forces now know that the government needs to do more to help those coming home (injured or not)? It's the world we live in, cynical but it fucking works. If those lads get the rehab centres they need do you think they give a flying fuck if some X Factor winner sells a few records more? Not a fucking chance.
I honestly don't think you watched any of it because there were loads of injured guys there, all the press seems to say they had a great time but I'll get some first hand info and confirm it.
Will the Sun care about him when he gets out? No, probably not, but they are a newspaper and it's not their responsiblity to do so. Will there be after care available because of the campaign they've backed? Absolutely.

Oh and a mate of mine is a Sgt Major in the Paras, on the back of Help for Heroes he got to go to see the final test against the Aussies and then to the official party after we'd won the ashes. Him and few of his lads got to have a top night with people they'd never expected to meet and got thoroughly pissed for nowt. At that point if Amanda Holden had turned up I think even her face would have moved!!!

Have you been drinking mistletoe?
Your 2nd post bears no relation to the first. All the things you mentioned in the 2nd post are the responsibility of the government and absolutely need to be done but what the fuck has that got to do with the awards? They aren't mutually exclusive so why can't we have both. I agree the sponsor is a cunt but the idea isn't
Ask any normal squaddie if he'd have liked to have gone and got pissed for free and try to get a grip of Mylene Class and I think the answer is yes
-
No it isn't you mong. Some of the blokes got awards for air/sea rescues and they honoured the mums of dead soldiers.
I watched some of it and the things the young women and men did were truly awe inspiring. You say you are a tart and I think you are 100% correct.
Lots of soldiers coming back say they are overwhelmed by the support they are getting so what's the harm in giving them a top night out in London, the chance to flirt with a couple of celebs and the chance for their friends and family to see them on telly.

I love a game of Scrabble.
Anyone watching the documentary on BBC1? Nigeria have classed it as a sport and the government sponsors training.

What's with all the Hitler hating? He wasn't that bad. So he got a bit carried away - who amongst us can say that the odd genocidal thought never crossed our mind? There are whole rafts of people I'd like to see wiped out, starting with the scottish. At least Ade got things done.

Maybe cheese was. Fucking idiot

it was deathly quiet and a Wigan fan shouted;
'Come on Phil, give us one decision you fat bastard'
to which Mr Dowd responded with a cheery wave. To be fair he listened and we got fuck all after that. Very very funny though.
-
I'm taking my girlfriend, it's her first game at Anfield.
Think we'll be right next to the Wigan fan, I hope he doesn't swear as she's a delicate little flower.
She's also demanded the Torres bounce, so if any of you with 'insider' knowledge could ask Rafa to play him and get him to score I'll invest to rep you. Oh and save me a parking space could you?
Cheers

He was in charge of the sports facilities at Staffs Uni for a while and always loved a chat about the old days.
Sad, sad news.

I'm with the majority here that they went too far but also agree this bloke should have been in prison in the first place.
I think we have a couple of lawyers on here and they'll be able to correct me but surely if this guy has committed 50 offences he's likely to have broken all kinds of previous court orders (as 50 completely different offences is pretty difficult to do), supervision orders, been on bail etc etc. Unless he's about 100. But then he's have crumbled to dust when they hit him.
-
I can honestly say that if the bloke had come into my house and I'd chased him with my cricket bat, he'd have suffered nothing more than a thick edge. And only if he'd been standing outside off, I'm shit off my legs.

I've just done the gravy recipe that Jamie Oliver did on his Christmas programme last week.
It's lovely, highly recommend it. Recipe is on C4 website and you can watch it on 4OD. As I'm thick I can't post links.
