Writing on the Wall and Faber are running an event to promote the release of David Peace's latest novel about the rise of Liverpool FC and Bill Shankly titled 'Red or Dead'. We have finalised details for the demonstration at the Premier League headquarters on June 19th. Anyone wishing to join the demonstration should make their way to Regent's Park and congregate inside the perimeter using the entrance nearest The Secret Garden from 1.00pm onwards. The nearest underground station is Baker Street and a map is included in the link at the end. Fans of all clubs are welcome and should aim to arrive at the meeting point before 2.00pm when we will be setting off on the march to the Premier League Headquarters. This Thursday supporters from across London will be meeting at The Horseshoe Inn on 26 Melior Street, SE1 3QP at 7:30 pm to discuss ticket prices and how we campaign for a reduction in them as supporters from all clubs. This follows on from last week’s North West Supporters' Meeting in Liverpool. Tonight and next Thursday, Spirit Of Shankly will be hosting two meetings of supporters and supporter groups, in the NW and London, to talk about the continuing rise of ticket prices. The meeting is an opportunity for supporters to talk about the issues they face, what they would like to see happen and to show their support for a campaign to call for a reduction in ticket prices. At a time in which we are seeing more money flooding into football, we think it is important that us supporters are thought of. It is an important issue to us all. Anfield, as a stadium and what it represents, is incredibly important to both Liverpool supporters and the local community. It matters to so many people - be it those who attend football matches, those who work there or those who live within close proximity. This week, the Liverpool Supporters’ Union have submitted an application to Liverpool City Council to have Anfield, and the immediate area surrounding the football stadium, designated as an asset of community value. What this means is that Anfield the stadium would be prevented from being sold without supporters having an opportunity to purchase it. Given that any sale of the stadium would feature as part of the sale of the football club, it would provide the Liverpool Supporters' Union with a window of opportunity to put together a suitable bid for the stadium should we wish to do so. To all fans attending this weekend's game against Aston Villa: As you are probably aware, Aston Villa's captain, Stiliyan Petrov, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March 2012. As a show of support for "Stan," Villa fans give their skipper an ovation with applause in the 19th minute of every home game. This weekend, we intend to follow suit and give our own ovation, in unity with the travelling Villa fans, for Petrov. The Hillsborough Justice Campaign has contacted Spirit of Shankly regarding the Sun's attempt to regain a foothold in the City with a substantial offer in conjunction with the Morrisons supermarket chain this weekend. To counteract any attempts, the HJC are coordinating direct action at the Morrisons supermarket in Maghull. The HJC would greatly appreciate the presence of volunteers to hand out leaflets to customers at the main entrance of the supermarket on Saturday 6th October at 10.30am. Spirit of Shankly is working with the Hillsborough Family Support Group, Hillsborough Justice Campaign, Hope for Hillsborough and Liverpool Football Club, to mark the publication of the report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel with a crowd mosaic at the forthcoming home game with Manchester United. The mosaic will cover three stands, The Kop, Lower Centenary and the Lower Anfield Road (home section). Spelling out the words "Justice" and "Truth", together with the number "96", the mosaic has been organised to enable Liverpool supporters to show their continued unequivocal backing for the families of the Hillsborough victims and all those whose lives have been affected by the disaster and the ensuing cover-up. The organisations involved would be grateful if supporters would display the mosaic for the first minute of the match. Thank you for your support.
