  1. Stewards or new stewards?

The club actually have much more stewards than what they need, much more.

This is because the club wanted to have as many stewards trained up prior to the stadium opening so we didn't have Orange Jackets running around all over the place not wondering where they hell they where, or what they where doing.

You only need something around 250-300 stewards on a match day to meet the requirements of the ground safety certificate, and there are about 450-500 every match day.

    There you go.

  2. And Kenny will do that. No one will be resting on their laurels.

Put it this way, I think it would be fair to say I'd be much more worried if we're still under the last lot. As it stands, we know our problems. We're not about to implode, we're doing okay.

Savour the moment look forward to the rebuilding process. We as a club need to be winning trophies like this, because it's been a fucking long time since we did so.

Fucking Enjoy it. If you don't want to enjoy it give me your fucking tickets. We minds as well be under the last lot because the mentality seemingly hasn't changed.

  3. Mainly joyful ones, but I would be lying if I didn't say I was afraid that the cups would be used in an attempt to cover up our dreadful league performance(s).

To me, another league season like this one would not be acceptable no matter how many domestic cups (and EL) we would bring in.

Cups are to be savoured not down played.

No one is happy with the league form, but ffs we've won nothing since 06. Lets just enjoy the potential of lifting another cup?

  4. What about the other various years where their seasons have collapsed? I'm guessing that was due to them not progressing in the league cup and they just imploded through depression. Nothing to do with the two or three sides that have finished above them in recent years having bigger and better squads than them and being able to replace injured players with players of a similar quality.

If you think losing the Carling cup has anything other than a very small impact if anything on the rest of a teams season especially one of the big four you're quite clearly stupid.

Winning Trophies is a habit. I'd be willing to bet a few bob that had we not beat Cardiff, we also would not be in the FA Cup Final now.

  5. Our main aim is to win the league no?

Guess how many teams have won the premier league without finishing inside the top four in the previous season? That's right none.

It is a sad state of affairs but that is the modern game.

You can be all happy about winning the league cup, but i'd prefer to be challenging for top honours not scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It's like Harry Redknapp loudly proclaiming he won the Intertoto Cup.

Your constant attacks against Arsenal are laughable as well. When was the last time they won the league? Oh yeah that's right not even a decade ago.

Also they won the FA Cup the year before us and your belittling them for not winning trophy when all we have over them in that time period is the league cup which we won this year, is also sad.

    Absolutely fucking deluded.

Can't believe I'm being called deluded for wanting to win trophies.

    The fuck

  6. You can't win the league without being able to make the top four. You can get into the top four without winning the league. We want to win the title, don't we, so we must be able to get into the top four.

I'm fairly sure I've never said I want to do that, Ant.

I don't need your pity, Ant. I just want more successes than you do and I'm not blinded by the 'one success today and no success tomorrow' ethos that you're subscribing to and that would have seen us missing out on all the great times we had in Rafa's first three season, including a European Cup and an FA Cup.

I will enjoy it if we win the FA Cup, it's a great achievement. Just because I'd be willing to trade it for long term, continued success, doesn't mean I don't want to win things. You seem to be judging it on a single season basis. As if it's just FA Cup v 4th and no trophies. It's not about which is better, it's which gives us the better chance of winning the top trophies, on a consistent basis, over the long term.

How do you want more successes than I do? That's absurd, we both want the same thing it's just how we get there. Once more, there is fuck all evidence to suggest that winning the CL and League is linked to a fourth place finish, yes it helps. But I'd much rather be in there every odd season and win trophies rather than be there every season and win the square root of fuck all.

I'm not judging anything by one season, I just simply believe football is about winning trophies and if you can't enjoy that, then there is truly no hope. There doesn't have to be a choice, it's a hypothetical question but you're making it such a black and white issue.

There is no direct correlation between finishing fourth and being able to have a steady consistent chance of challenging for trophies, only Man United and to an extent Chelsea have been able to follow that path over the past few years. Arsenal have done the square root of fuck all, and Spurs have all but imploded.

    Your logic isn't bullet proof.

Edit: Providing we win the FA Cup, Would you have liked to have the past two season Spurs have experienced, or would you rather have the past two season we have experienced? Because although Spurs have finished fourth, they've won fuck all, still might not qualify for Fourth place as well!

  7. Thats about how i feel about it. In the context of how this season has played out I'll gladly settle for the cup we've and hopefully the two.

The league form has to be addressed though for next season

And if it doesn't Kenny will pay the price.

In the meantime, there is nothing else to do but at least try to to enjoy the fact we're in with an excellent chance of winning our second trophy in a matter of months, and European Football next year.

  8. There's no 'may not', Ant. We would have missed out on Olympiakos, Juventus and Chelsea. That's a fact.

Success is measured by which trophies you win. You've basically said you'd be happy to take the FA Cup over a future of winning trophies. Plural. The biggest ones.

If that's not trying to hide failings, I don't know what is.

Finishing Fourth and Winning the League etc isn't inextricably linked, look at Arsenal as an example.

It's only the case if you build upon it, and even then it's not easy as Chelsea have proved as well. Don't get me wrong I see your point, I see what finishing in the Champions League can do for your club. But finishing fourth season after season winning practically nothing in the process isn't success, it 's just making the bank balance look relatively decent.

Winning two trophies in one season is nothing to be sniffed at, and we should embrace that should be it be achieved. Would I say this season is a success if we just win the CC, no I wouldn't, but I wouldn't seek to belittle the achievement, I'd just expect to see an improvement next year.

We haven't won anything since 2006, we've not had any silverware in the cabinet for a very long time, having that experience within the squad can be an excellent stepping stone to greater things.

We've got European Football next year, not at the level we would have perhaps wanted. But we've got it non the less, on the face of it, 2 trophies and European Football isn't a bad return.

You're trying to turn this into such a black and white argument, what if we go onto win the league next year? Football doesn't deal with certainties, you should know that.

I'm as disappointed as anyone with the league form, but lets take a step back here. We're in two finals, embrace it and enjoy it. I'll ask you the same question if we win the cup on May 5th, if your answer is still the same I feel very very sorry for you.

  9. So is foresight, Ant. Your lust after the FA Cup would have caused us great problems. We're not going to be a powerhouse until we get back into the European Cup. Is my argument, or any of the points I've made at all, even sounding at all reasonable to you?

Ged was sacked at the end of the season, despite getting fourth. Shows how far down our standards have slipped.

Look, we may have not had Istanbul, but we may have still had a successful season. We can pick and chose events to suit our argument.

I'm not saying I'd be disappointed with a fourth place finish, but the feeling you get from winning trophies is un-paralleled, regardless of what trophy it is.

Finishing 8th is a disappointment to say the least, but to experience potential 2 cup wins is a fantastic achievement IMO. It's also a relief after the past few years of pure shite slinging we've had at this club.

It doesn't hide our failings, and I can't see Kenny lasting if the same is repeated next season, but it can breed success, it can lead to better things. FFS I can't believe we're having an argument about finishing fourth or having trophies? Trophies are what success is measured by, it's what we treasure most.

  10. Yeah, definitely.

Would you have swapped 4th place in 2004 for an FA Cup win? That probably would have meant no Xabi, no Garcia, maybe no Gerrard... It definitely would have meant no Istanbul. Which, in turn, would have meant no West Ham FA Cup win, no Torres, no 2007 final... That's without mentioning no Barca, Juve, Inter, Real, Chelsea, and many other great victories.

So yeah, FA Cup in 2004 or 4th?

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

But I would have taken the FA Cup at the time. Also correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Gerrard right behind Houllier like 99%?

  11. Yep, by quite some distance. You're right, it doesn't matter who the opposition is; it's the long term future success and status of this football club that concerns me at the moment.

It's not as if we're about to implode though, we have a decent enough squad it just needs improving upon.

Champions League Football Isn't the be all and end all as it perhaps was 2-3 years ago for us.

If we weren't allowed in to the Champions League to defend it after winning the Champions League in 05. Would you have wanted 4th, or the Champions league?

  12. We might win the FA Cup. I love winning the FA Cup. It's great. However, if we use it as cover for our failings, we're not the same Liverpool any more.

How is winning trophies covering the failures?

We know how shit we've been, but recently we've been shit and not won anything. Now we're shit and we're winning trophies.

It's not a bad return on the past 2 years of complete lunacy at this club.

  13. I'm not belittling it, I'm just not inflating its importance to some epic win in our history. Compared to what we've achieved, it's modest. To be honest, the blinkered acceptance of second best by some of our fans is disturbing. It's not what this club is about. Well, it wasn't for most of the 30 years I've been watching us.

Funny. You say we shouldn't accept second best. Then you go on about finishing fourth.

The greatest moments i've had watching this club have been about seeing us lift trophies, I don't give a shit if we beat Cardiff, or if we beat Man United in the final. We won the cup, it doesn't matter who the opponents where, it doesn't downplay the achievement.

If we beat the Champions League Finalists (Sigh) on May 5th, you're telling me you'd swap that feeling for fourth place?

  14. Well, whilst you're telling your grandkids about beating Cardiff on penalties, I'll be telling them about how we beat Barcelona away, battered Real Madrid, came back from 3-0 to win the European cup.

Yeah I see your point. Cup finals are shit.

But from where we've been and what we've experienced to where we are now, with potentially two cups. It's not all that bad now is it? It's been a rough few years.

We've been shit in the league, but let us at least try to enjoy the fact we may have two trophies in the cabinet come the 5th May.
