  1. If Grayling's price competative tendering for defence legal aid work goes ahead they'll be bidding in that as well. You could end up being held and investigated at the custody suite by G4S. Defended by G4S. Transported to court and held in the cells by G4S. Represented in court by G4S. Transported away from court by G4S. And held in a prison run by... ...take a guess...

So then, no conflict of interest there. The only thing left will be for them to replace magistrates and judges as some point in the future.

And that's before he rolls PCT out to family work like child disputes.

Oh, and judging by their dealings with the justice system so far, they're shit.

And if youre given a community order (probation).....yep the one and only G4s.

  2. Some people end up in shitty places hit the lowest of the low yeah lets all at there misfortune how big do we feel aye?

And some people end up in other peoples houses in the dead of night stealing what is not theirs. Things that the owners of such houses have worked their arses off for.

I am such a person. Getting up for work to find that everything of value has gone is a bit upsetting I tell you. And it was a heroin user who did it. He had a little misfortune after that....and I laughed.

  3. I naturally assumed that since everyone here has come to the decision that it is a bad idea, they must have based their decision on evidence. I don't think it's too lazy to ask that people share their evidence with everyone else.

Everyone else has to back up their arguments with hard evidence and provide you with that evidence (because you cannot be bothered to look for yourself) but its fine for you to naturally assume. Strange fellow you.

  4. I have no opinion on it as I haven't had enough information yet. Nobody even answered my question ("Will the proposals make it basically like the US, where you have a court-appointed lawyer if you're not prepared to shell out for your own?").

In order to support/oppose this, one would need evidence that the service provided by contracted lawyers would be qualitatively no worse/worse than that given by the average high street lawyer. Does such evidence exist?

Heres an idea. Why don`t you go and do some research. Its really simple, what with the internet and stuff. Don`t just sit around waiting for others to do it for you.

  5. Ive met lots of people who are well off, I have family members who would fall into that category, and I have no problem with that. Ive also, through my job, had dealings with people who are filthy rich. I can say without fear of contradiction that filthy rich people are fucking horrible, arrogant in the extreme and just seem to me to be mean spirited and nasty.

I`m with manwiththestick me. Enough is as good as a feast.

  6. If it was me, i would be happier. The security around Boston will be heightened to the max for the next few years.

Good point that actually. Don`t think his mum will see it that way though.

  7. My youngest son is supposed to be going to Boston to work in about four weeks time. He`s just finished his first year at uni and is going there for three or four months, got the job sorted and his flights and everything. He`s out at the mo so don`t know how he`ll react to this yet. Hope he changes his mind and thinks about not going.

  8. I am quite appalled by that comment, and it's massively illuminating. Surely payment by results in any field is desirable, in which case trialling it in criminal justice is to be welcomed?

"It's broke but let's not try to fix it" is about as conservative as it gets, and not doing anything to disabuse one of the notion that Labour is just a different kind of conservative.

Jesus wept. Payment by results in any field is desirable. Do your homework, if you can`t be bothered just look at criminal justice in the US. There you`ll see the results of payment by results in criminal justice.

If you can be bothered look at the consulation documents released last year.

(effectiveprobationservices@justice.gsi.gov.uk) and then look at the response to consultation documents, they are all available on the Home Office website. You`ll see example after example of companies, most of whom are in the pockets of the tories, trying desparately to feather their own nests. This at the expense of public safety. If thats desirable then I`m a banana.

The criminal justice system is not broken, the examples used for re-offending are mainly from people who have recieved prison sentences of less than 12 months. These people are not supervised by the Probation service, at the instruction of the Government, so how the Probation service can be accused of failing is, at best odd, at worst a blatant lie.
