injuries permitted we should be able to cope until the jan window, our first 14 without injuries should keep us in touch till then, but yes there is gamble and that gamble is having an injury free first half of the season

SIMAO PASSES MEDICAL
by Francisco Acedo - created on 31 Aug 2005
Portugal international Simao Sabrosa has passed a medical as he closes on a move to Liverpool.
The Benfica winger is expected to join the European champions prior to Wednesday's transfer deadline in a deal worth €15 million (£10 million).
Simao is understood to have agreed personal terms with Liverpool, having been granted permission to leave Portugal's training camp to discuss his switch to Anfield.
The wide man's agent Jorge Baidek has confirmed to skysports.com that the talks are heading towards a positive conclusion.
"Now the operation is very advanced and we wait for a final solution in the next few hours," Baidek told skysports.com.
However, Benfica are thought to be trying to block Simao's move to The Premiership as they are loath to lose the right winger.
Benfica are reportedly trying to change the details of the deal in an attempt to thwart Liverpool's bid to sign the former Barcelona player.
There have been suggestions that Benfica want Djibril Cisse in part exchange but that appears to be an unlikely scenario.
Simao is expected back at the Portuguese training camp later in the day and will hope there is no last minute hitch.

Portugese FA website say his left for Liverpool for a medical
-
Lets wait and see, theres one thing bidding, another thing player and club agreeing

Up until that point they had carried out what he had asked for. There was still plenty of time to spare to add to that. There isn't now. Had the board completed the list we wouldn't, as a club, be fumbling around at the last minute for a RW and a CB.
Figo and Milito were rafa's number one targets, hardly the boards fault they didint want to come....now all the clubs got wind of our situation and making it harder for us, who knows what might happen yet?
united and arse have done nothing, blueshite cant get anyone
spurs and toon the big movers this summer
-
Care to elaborate? I've been unhappy with the board for a long time. I have made it known since I first started posting here. I remember getting into a long discussion with Stu Monty about it. I think Rafa knows what players he wanted but the board couldn't deliver.
Rafa only stated a couple of weeks back that he was happy with the signings and was quoted saying he gave a list to the board and that he was happy they carried out what he asked for
-
I'm stupid but I still think we've got a slight chance of getting him, only about a 0.1% chance but I reckon we're still in there.
been thinking the same...must be the stevie scenerio thats doing it :D

Why don't we have money MLB? Any reason for a club the size of ours to be skint?
yeah backing managers and being unsuccessful
we'll reap the benefits of the last season and champions league this season, and have a big budget next summer

Owen to score at Anfield? I cannot believe we have let this happen. Just think about it lads, Owen against us at Anfield.
We have been a fucking shambles in the transfer market this season.

Owen is the looser in all this AGAIN

No it ain't personal fella, I don't think he is a bell end, he is just shit.
that is the saddest thing ive ever heard from a so called fan label a player from a team he supports, after a few performances...sad

thought the Thai lad was interested and there was an another exciting offer Parry stated awhile back, but as he said you dont rush into anything when saleing on the family silver.
-
Whatever way I look at it, it is mis-management I am afraid.
There is no way anyone can say that a huge club like ours who are CL winners too should only be spending £10M net as a maximum in the close season when it is so apparent we need quality players. We are not working to our potential behind the scenes.
then the time has come for you to support Chelski, they will satisfy all your footballing fantasies
-
Are we a big club or not? Why can't we pay our best players top dollar?
Champions League winners.
Won Uefa Cup, FA Cup, 2 League Cups.
The most successful club in British History.
One of the most supported clubs in the world.
Why in God's name are we even discussing us being skint or going in for the likes of Stelios and Figo in a position that is crucial? The club has let the fans down as regards signings.
patience my man patience

Everyone needs to remember that these wernt players Rafa bought, maybe Rafa simply rates other players, dont get me wrong i like Milan and Sinima but wholesale changes were on the cards and maybe Rafa needs money from sales to fund his own players....maybe his after Kyut and Owen, who knows but its clear Rafa wants to shape his squad his way and who can argue with Rafa
-
How much money have they got all of a sudden?
they had 7.5 mill bid turned down
-
if we go for Kuyt, lets hope it wont be a bidding war with Spurs
-
any other news from the conference?

That was the appeal

Owen gives Toon hope Aug 11 2005
By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle
Michael Owen has told Newcastle United he would be prepared to join them - if Manchester United and Liverpool do not come in for hin.
This is the news The Chronicle can reveal tonight and it lifted some of the doom and gloom surrounding United's decision not to pursue Nicolas Anelka from Fenerbahce.
United have always insisted that they felt they had "an outside chance" of signing Owen from Real Madrid and at the moment I would say that it is slightly better than that.
For my information is that Owen has told United he would be interested in joining his big pal Alan Shearer at St James' Park but that he owed it to himself to see what his former club Liverpool and Manchester United were going to do.
Real were still saying today that they hoped Owen would stay at the Bernabeu - but as the Chronicle revealed on Tuesday night, Freddy Shepherd was ready to fly to Spain at their invitation to discuss the situation regarding the England striker.
There has been talk of Owen leaving Real Madrid on loan but I believe United's first move would be to try and make it a permanent deal.
My own feeling is that it is too late for United to have a new striker in time for Sunday's opener at Highbury.
But the smart money is on them signing a striker to make his home debut in the home Premiership match with West Ham a week on Saturday.
The Chronicle reported last night that, despite a claim to the contrary, United would not be going back to Fenerbahce with an improved offer for Anelka.
Graeme Souness is disappointed but quite philosophical - even after he lost another striker with Michael Chopra likely to be out for four to six weeks after damaging medial ligaments in his knee in the last night's Reserve victory over Leeds United at Kingston Park.
The United boss said today: "We are disappointed but we have been told by Fenerbahce that they could not think about letting Anelka go until they found a replacement and this was going to be difficult.
"They are finding out, like ourselves, there are not a lot of top strikers available."
