The greatest ever myth in football is that Alex Ferguson and Manchester United were the ones that knocked Liverpool off their perch. This is a myth because it's actually false. The side that knocked Liverpool off their perch was the Arsenal side of 1987-1991 managed by George Graham. What Manchester United did was benefit from Arsenal and Leeds being unable to sustain success. The same thing applies to Liverpool in the 70s, they weren't the ones that knocked Manchester United off their perch. They benefitted from Arsenal, Leeds ,Derby County and Nottingham Forest being unable to sustain success. Liverpool were the ones that sustained it. Ferguson due to his gross arrogance has been telling this lie for years. We may not be the ones that knock them off their perch. However we must be in a position to sustain success when others cannot.
