  1. The ruling of the Court Case, challenging the Boards decision to sell the club, is taking place at the Royal Courts of Justice tomorrow, Wednesday 13th October 2010. It is listed to start at 10:00am in Court 16. Following the events of the first day of the court case, it is clear that Tom Hicks and George Gillett are still trying to do whatever they can to cling on to any part of the club, whether that be through bending the truth or outright lies. Spirit of Shankly feel we need to make a dignified and organised appearance at the Courts. We do not propose to scream and shout at faceless people in suits, but we feel it is important that we are represented by members at what could be a very important event in the chapter of Liverpool Football Clubs recent history. As a result, we will be laying on a coach to take those wishing to attend from Liverpool. Due to the early start the coach will leave from outside the Liverpool Empire Theatre at 4:00am, and from the Rocket at 4:20am. The coach will be free of charge, and places will be allocated on first come, first served basis. We ask that you only reserve a place if you are certain you can make it, given the demand. We are aware that the 7/7 Bombing Inquest is also being held at the Royal Courts this week, and will be attended by grieving relatives. As Liverpool fans will appreciate, this Inquest will be a raw and very emotional time for relatives, as the circumstances of their loved ones deaths will be recounted, and we urge people to show the families our respect while making our feelings about the ownership of Liverpool Football Club known to the media, the courts and Tom Hicks and George Gillett. If you are available and would like to travel to London, then please email jamesmckenna@spiritofshankly.com with your name, pick up point and contact telephone number.
  2. The Liverpool Supporters' Union, Spirit of Shankly have noted the developments overnight at Liverpool Football Club. Leaving aside the embarrassment of our Club's ownership and senior management playing out open warfare in public, supporters will be encouraged to see the ownership of Hicks and Gillett possibly coming to an end. However, we have been here before. In 2007. The identity and nationality of any owners of Liverpool Football Club is irrelevant. How they act as custodians is the most important thing and we have seen previously that initial announcements and promises made by new owners and the checks and due diligence made by those entrusted with that role on our behalf have all been left wanting. This must not happen again. The supporters are not as naive as they were in 2007. For one, Spirit of Shankly is a vibrant and demanding representative organisation of its members and we will expect to see full details of how any purchase is to be financed and what difference any new owners will make in terms of recognising how supporters see the future of the Club. It is disappointing that none of the potential purchase groups are yet to engage with Spirit of Shankly and we would expect that to happen now before any sale is concluded so the issues most closely concerning supporters can be discussed. The supporters' concerns are how they propose to purchase the Club, how their business model is different to the current owners, their measurable ambitions for the Club, the investment they intend to make on the playing side, what their stadium solution is likely to be and also their attitude in relation to allowing supporters to invest and be represented within the Club. Hicks and Gillett have not yet gone, and any excitement concerning new owners will be measured by how they recognise the current atmosphere and attitudes of supporters. New owners are not walking into a Club of supporters with open arms, there will be one gently outstretched hand of welcome while the other hand contains a list of questions that will need honest and open answers before any welcome becomes more warm. New owners will have seen the strength of feeling and the actions taken by thousands upon thousands of supporters to get rid of the current owners. That strength needs to be respected and acknowledged, not through press conferences, photo opportunities and false promises - it needs to be acknowledged by any new owners making a sincere and permanent pact with the supporters that sees supporters inside the Club and integral to it, not seen as consumers, stakeholders or customers because this is Liverpool Football Club, our Club. And finally, don't forget, Tom and George You're Still Not, and never will be, Welcome Here. Spirit of Shankly - Ownership Developments – Spirit Of Shankly – Liverpool Supporters' Union
  3. Following the Spirit of Shankly EGM held on Saturday (September 2010 EGM - Video; Spirit Of Shankly; Liverpool Supporters' Union ), the Union's members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of all six resolutions put before them (EGM Voting Results; Spirit Of Shankly; Liverpool Supporters' Union ). The main proposal detailed the strategy and action that the Union was asking its members to approve - this can be seen in the EGM agenda (http://www.spiritofshankly.com/documents/1009_egm_meeting_agenda.pdf ). In light of the positive vote of the Union's members, we will be developing the next steps in our "Not Welcome" campaign to see the end of Hicks and Gillett by demanding “No to Refinance – Finance The Fans”. This campaign puts the only people who can be trusted, the supporters, at the centre of a cure to our club’s problems. No longer should we have Tom Hicks and George Gillett, or their ilk running a football club into the ground. Instead we will have proper custodians – us, the supporters. This Sunday we will send out a message, loud, passionate, and clear that we, the supporters, want Tom Hicks and George Gillett out. We want RBS to call in their loans and say no to refinance. Supporters are the only credible solution, the only constant in this ever changing process. We want RBS to finance us, the supporters. We want the Board of the Club to get behind the supporters' proposal or to publicly explain why, with access to millions of supporters around the world willing to be involved, they will not. We will tell the Board, RBS and the watching world what we want. Before the Blackpool game, we will be marching from the Liverpool FC Supporters' Club on Lower Breck Road to Anfield. We will gather at 1:30pm - so we can show them our strength and the support for our campaign. After the game we will hold another sit in protest in the ground and we would ask everyone to stay and make their voices heard so again, we can repeat the message - this is our football club. Any repayment of debt or profits to be made by potential purchasers will come from the revenue streams we supporters provide. So who better to save the football club than they very people who have made this club what it is and who will be the provider of the finance to solve its debt problems? People will laugh, mock and tell you it can’t be done. Well, the owners got away with it before because we let them. Not anymore. The Board, RBS and the other money people will try and get away with it again but they will only succeed if we let them - this time though, we won't. Ask those that scoff what they offer as an alternative – refinancing the Americans is a very large step towards the abyss, in addition there is no queue of potential purchasers. Supporters are the solution. We've always been the solution. On Sunday, let’s show them that. No To Refinance - Finance The Fans We ask all those attending to bring along their flags and banners. We also require volunteers to assist with the stewarding. If you are able to help, or have any further ideas, please email directaction@spiritofshankly.com Direct Action - Blackpool Sunday 3rd October; Spirit Of Shankly; Liverpool Supporters' Union
  4. Now, more than ever, our Football Club needs us. It needs you to stand up and be counted. To tell Tom Hicks and George Gillett that enough is enough. To tell the watching world, the banks and the finance houses that we won't stand idly by as our Football Club is run into the ground. To tell them that if the situation worsens, our protests will escalate. This weekend, we intend to make our feelings known. We want you to be a part of that. At our EGM (Spirit Of Shankly - EGM Agenda 25th September 2010 – Spirit Of Shankly – Liverpool Supporters' Union), we will be talking about our plans for supporter ownership and future protests. We want you to be a part of that. We want as many members as possible to be there to suggest ideas and determine the future. Following on from the EGM, we intend to protest during and after the Sunderland game. Using songs, banners and flags, we urge all those in attendance to make sure the people who have got us into this mess get the message, loudly and clearly, that they aren't welcome. People say we need to get behind the team, and worry about the affect that protesting has on the players performance. The time for that worry has passed. It is time to get behind our campaign to save our Club. Without the Club we have no team. It's not the protests that are having an effect on performance but the ownerships situation, the lack of investment and the crippling repayments. Even the manager and the players have called for new owners to enable the Club to move forward. After the match, we ask that you remain in the ground and continue your protests. We ask that you gather at the front of each stand and remain in the ground protesting until we are satisfied our message has been heard. We urge all those who have banners, or flags to bring them along. We know there are other groups planning to produce banners and we would urge everyone to work together to give out the strongest message yet to those responsible for the demise of our Club. It is our responsibility as supporters to invoke change. We have to do all we can. The protests and our plans for action are now part of a planned and sustained campaign. We gave the owners, the Board and the finance men some space to bring about new investment and new owners. Nothing has happened so we now plan to carry on protesting with action escalating until a resolution is reached. The ongoing soap opera within our Football Club must come to an end. It is now our duty as Liverpool supporters to bring it to an end. Saturday is another step towards the aims we are striving to achieve. Tom Hicks and George Gillett out of OUR club!
