    Baffling Benitez

Has there ever been a more baffling manager than Benitez? Now I know at Liverpool in recent times we have seen some poor management decisions. For example Souness deciding to sell Beardsley or Houiller signing Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou. But these are decisions on whether a manager rates a player or sees them in his plans. But some of the decision making by Benitez over the last five years, I find it hard to see his reasoning behind these decisions. For example: - Subbing Gerrard in the Derby – for “showing too much passion.” Liverpool were losing the game, Gerrard makes a great run, wins a penalty and gets an Everton player sent off – he totally changed the game, with his skill and ‘passion’. Yet for some reason Benitez though Lucas woulod be better off winning the game for us than the proven Gerrard. I’m sorry, I know we won, but it doesn’t mean that was the right decision, far from it in my opinion and I can’t see the reasoning behind it. - Constantly playing Kuyt regardless of form. Fair enough last season Kuyt was superb. But the season before he was awful, only getting three league goals (one a penalty, one a shinned tap-in) and poor performances breaking up our play with limited passing and constant poor first touches. I am a Kuyt fan, but when he’s in poor form, he should be dropped and to see him play more than just about every other player and it seems he is undroppable, regardless of form... again I find baffling! - Aquilani. 8 weeks ago we saw this guy play 15 minutes or so, against Arsenal in the league cup. He needs minutes to get fit, yet Benitez has hardly used the guy. I can understand if he’s not ready to start games, yet he started the other week in Europe. He’s getting 10 minutes here and there, sometimes 30 seconds or even not used at all. He’s not going to get fit this way and Aquilani must be as confused as much as the fan are. These are just three examples of baffling decisions by the manager... I could go on, but I don’t want to bore you anymore than I already have. Is it just me who doesn’t see much reasoning behind some of his decision making? Is he the most baffling manager ever?
