  1. I don't think so either.

I reckon we'll eventually get VVD and nobody else and cut our midfield cloth accordingly.

I don't think we will 'replace' Kieta but I can see another midfielder coming in - maybe someone on loan, or a different type of player.

I think VVD will come as well - to be honest, he is the one we need!

  2. Ah, so basically a nothing statement then. If the club deems identifying targets as "work that has been done" then good luck to us.

Yep, you are right - It was a bit of a nothing statement! I was the same - thought we'd sorted it, but apparently just agreed whom and what to target.

  3. Now I think all that's left is keita balde for decent available forwards.

    We've missed out on loads.

I agree. But the club would have been slaughtered for buying 'cheap' when we needed top class signings!

Dammed if they do, dammed if they don't at the moment mate. There are lots of valid criticisms of FSG but at the moment it is difficult to see them under all the accusations!

  4. We have elections every five years (or whatever it is) to give the electorate the opportunity to change something they don't like.  I don't see why a referendum should be any different.  The ramifications of it go way beyond any election and will be longer lasting.

I agree - but, referendums by their definition can't be used like that! Which is why it is such a ridiculous method to deal with the issues. Basically the country is fucked because Boris and Dave had a pissing contest!

Referendums rely upon two choices - but in matters such as this, people very rarely vote in a binary way. That is why I get so annoyed with 'left' leavers who don't like being described as racists, but they agreed and voted with them, so at the very least they are enablers of racism. That is the reality of the situation.

That said. I can't see any situation whereby the result can be overturned! There should be a 60% minimum for all referendums to mitigate this problem.

  5. I was under the impression from klopps comments at the end of last season that negotiations had already been taking place behind the scenes and the targets we were after would be ready to roll out the minute the window opened.

    Wonder what happened there?

I thought this had been addressed?

He, and the club had identified the targets. That was the 'work that been done'.

  6. Not sure what anybody expects Labour to do?

We can't ignore the referendum, and you shouldn't be calling for it because we lost! I don't like that result - annul it please - will be the start of a serious shit storm. Lets start ignoring elections that we don't like as well eh?

The whole thing is a fuck-up, a decision born of Tory hubris that they, and they alone should carry the fucking can for. Labour can't negotiate because it isn't in power. There are very few options as I can see - current one is leave it to those who caused this shit and let them make it worse, which obviously would affect far too many people and not those whom led the 'leave campaign' - or, try and make the best of a bad situation and be humble, conciliatory, accepting you are not in the strongest position but you have to try and mitigate the mess. You need to be in power to do this!

  7. I remember some woman in my old work fuming because, and I forget how we got to this conversation, she asked me if a house was on fire with my dog and her kids in who I would save first.  I said I'd save my dog because I had an emotional attachment to poor Stan and the kids were just the kids of someone I work with.

She was nearly in tears and stormed off

I would do exactly the same thing! I don't see why this is an 'issue'. Other people's children mean fuck all to me!

  8. Been waiting ages for Dunkirk, actually went to a cinema and paid to watch it (bear in mind that I live 50 miles from the nearest cinema).

Disappointed to say the least. The CGI and special effects were great but I thought it was jingoistic, simplistic, full of cliches and inaccurate in many respects. Improves on the old 1953 version only in the quality of the technology used. Passably acted with Brannagh doing his serious face.

5/10 mostly for the effects dept.

A lot of the soundtrack, by somebody called Zimmer, seemed to consist of hitting an oil drum with his frame with Elgars Nimrod for the finale

How dare you. Those people died for you!

Or escaped in boats very quickly....

Obviously that's just one particular sphere in which it goes on, but I think you've hit the nail on the head here; 'soft enough'. I'm not one of these who constantly has a downer on FSG, but the transfer market has arguably been the biggest frustration under them. They're obviously incredibly complex business and you'll never get every target but it's the vast list of players we've missed out on, cocked up or even pissed off individually that suggests there's an inability to learn. The Van Dijk reaction was pathetic, for instance, and unbelievably misjudged. Now we're in the position of either waiting on the player himself to put in a request or for Southampton to publicly state they'll listen to offers. It's just another one in a long line of deals that's become far messier than it ought to have been. That seeming inability to learn is the biggest frustration for me. Transfers are no doubt difficult, but a bit of fucking nous wouldn't go amiss.

Same as the team, they need to be more cuntish! As you say Van Dijk was Southampton pissed that they couldn't get an auction going - they knew full well he was talking to all the teams. We should have pointed out that a law exists not because the 'victim' reports it. We are a nice target for clubs - big enough to feel good, soft enough to not fuck you up!

We are the retarded big guy in the 80's films who gets picked on and you wait and wait for him to twat someone back!

But we just seem to carry on dribbling and apologising.

  10. Fair point, MB. I mean, transfers are obviously a lot more complicated than the FM model of 'submit bid, negotiate with player' as in the majority of cases, I can't imagine why a club would bother submitting a bid if they knew the player himself wasn't keen, to varying degrees.

The problem we're finding though with our general conduct, is that we're dependent on the players themselves making cunts of themselves to force the move, rather than get the come-on from the player or the agent and then talking amicably with the club. With Keita now, we're at the stage where he's pretty much going to have to submit a transfer request. That always seems to be the very last resort for a player because they seem to want to have their cake and eat it: pocket both the loyalty bonus and a nice fat signing on fee. The transfer request, though, is the ultimate 'break glass in case of emergency' option, and it's one I can't see him going for as he has too much in his favour with that release clause kicking in next summer. He's not soft; he knows he'll get his move eventually so if this bid fails, it's no skin off his nose to sit tight for a year.

    We are not alone though!

Remember John Gregory saying he wanted to shoot Dwight Yorke, our problem is we are big enough a club, and soft enough to be an ideal target. Take this VVD bollocks - how on earth did arsenal agree wages without meeting with him?

Seems to be standard on the continent - at the end of the day you can piss any club off at any time. Everton seemed perfectly happy with Pogba tapping up Lukaku in public!

  11. I think some artists are 'performances' not just lets ave'it live acts!

A bit like Rufus Wainwright, she was technically brilliant - but I think missed the barnstorming songs that get everyone going. My Good Fortune is one of my favourite songs and she never did it.

  12. I love her, mate.

The new stuff is an acquired taste and i can see how it may not be to everyones taste - but that is her isn't it, does what she wants and changes constantly...easily my favourite artist.

No I love her new stuff, and it was great live but she never did anything form Stories - which was a bit disappointing.

  13.

What part of 'I want to sign for Liverpool' is worrying you?

Haha - everytime this gets mentioned you react like this. He won't go to Chelsea - they've spent over a £100m and still have Victor fucking Moses as a starter!

Sent from John Henry's big shiny yacht

And what a yacht. Thanks Philippe!
