We have already seen teams focus on coutinho as they know he creates most of our chances, also last season were sturridge, Suarez and coutinho were played against Southampton they concentrated on these 3 and we were out of ideas.
An attacking player of top quality was essential imo and at start of summer Rodgers seemed to be under the same impression, not getting one will seriously dent our chances of top 4 imo.
You see, there are situations where players such as Allen (he played against Southampton) and Henderson should be thriving. You can't have the opposition completely nullifying three players without creating gaps and opportunities for others.

so rooney for first goal then.
Hopefully past de Gea.
-
That's true. But defenders alone don't explain that. A very porous midfield is another factor, and I don't think this problem has been solved.
Good point about the pedestrian midfield but some of the goals were from pure keystone cops defending.
-
Am excited about the defensive reinforcements as it was not the lack of goals but the failure to defend leads which cost us dear last season.
-
Couldn't care about Spurs except, maybe a some admiration of how judiciously to make use of a windfall.
-
I'm personally not bothered if we don't get an attacking player in. We will score as many goals as most teams in the league. I'd much rather be ploughing this money into the defence. Sakho will do nicely.
Me too. I count about 7 matches where where we lost points, either by drawing or losing matches where we had been leading. The two matches against Man City, and the away matches against Arsenal and Stoke were particularly painful.

Yeah that makes sense, spurs are overspending on shite and its only the bale money (About £85m vs about £150m).
Of course Tapas, if it was us signing them overrated players Spurs are getting you'd be crying into your hat that we'd wasted all that money Im sure.
Without necessarily disagreeing with your main point about getting our primary targets, Spurs has been selling players at profits over the last 3 or so seasons; look at how Levy did us on Robbie Keane and even turned a profit on Steven Pienaar after one season. Levy has been banking all that money, and now he has pounced.
-
Aparently Ilori is costing us £8m. If we've chosen him over Sakho, we're mental.
... with add-ons, if I understand it at all well.
-
James Pearce saying Ilori more likely than Sakho. Which would be a shame.
Sakho reputedly has a poor attitude. I suspect that is why, despite his undoubted talent, both Ancelotti and Blanc have not been too keen on him.

*scratches head*
I think PSG has mishandled this one. It now has a player who will leave for zilch next season unless he can be persuaded to sign an extension with a clause to let him go on loan. Or he leaves permanently for a ridiculously low fee this term.

Are we trying to create a team of midgets?
Are we playing in the Premier League in Munchkinland?
Have we all forgotten what happened when Roy Evans produced a team of midgets who played pretty but ineffective football and got bullied by everyone?
Prefer footballers to [gormless] giants.

I'm pretty sure Sterling was carrying a slight injury and his form nosedived because of it.
If we're going for Moses' date=' i'm hoping it's as cover and [b']Rodgers simply thinks Sterling/Ibe need to be used sparingly[/b].
I think that will be it. He clearly said that he over-played Sterling last year.

Spurs' wage bill will be going through the flaming roof.
As will the quality of the first team so no worries there.
-
I would also have vetoed the deal at that fee were I FSG.
Coutinho cost us £8.5 million and, in half a season, has done more than Willian has done in two seasons wherever he was.
-
Couple of rumours have started to emerge that Willian simply not too fussed about signing for Spurs. He had his medical yesterday. Weird it hasn't gone through yet.
No doubt that will get done some time this afternoon then.
I think it's Lamela OR Willian, not Lamela AND Willian. Saying that, though, will ruin the rumour mill for SSN.

He's an Arsenal supporter who has probably been keeping an eye on another offer for Suarez.Did Ornstein just wake up? -
If he goes to Spurs, it will be interesting how Villas Boas will get all those players to integrate.

Does he not just cover spurs the way maddock covers us and the shite?
I think he covers Arsenal and Spurs, to be fair. He seems, though, to feel he needs to put the boot into Liverpool to gain acceptance. Tw@t.
-
suso with a coutinho esque pass in the first half that led to a cross for a goal.
and now in the second half, he just had a beautiful assist
Cheers for the update.

Honest question - how the fuck did Palace get promoted? I always expect promoted sides to be half shite but these are dire. They're okay in defence and organisation but they can't put three passes together and pose absolutely no threat.
I hope that doesn't change when they come to Anfield, and their keepers suddenly play a blinder!
-
Looks like our hope of a Utd implosion may have been somewhat premature!
With a defender and a goal-keeper as helpful as Williams and Vorm, 4 is the least the skanks ought to have scored. Looked all over the place until that brain fart by Williams and Hernandez.

Actually in Willians case i think Spurs were in for him ahead of us. But this was last January before he signed for Anzhi. Apparently he even agreed terms, but Tottenham and Shaktar never agreed a fee. So i dont know if their reported interest are just the papers putting doing simple math.
It's probably Anzi trying to lure Spurs back to the table and get a bidding war going. Still, give the quality of [sports] journalists in this country, I'd not be surprised if it's a case of 1+1=11.

maybe, but English journalists are amazingly defensive when it come to Hodgson, almost to the point of disinformation. I don't know why, but they just are.
