    Paradigm Shift-Liquid Tension Experiment

Lovin' it. Ruling this thread Moofman.

I'm a bit startled my Crapenters (see what I did there?) post didn't get any reaction 'cos I hate that shit... but I guess I'm kinda fascinated by the contradiction that, although its gotta be one of the most inane songs ever, its without doubt the one that caused a lot of twats of my generation to stop in their tracks while listening to the radio and say "hang on a sec - I think I kinda like this guitar shit".

As a Belfast boy born & bred I'm lucky enough to have seen Lizzy live on many occasions and with various lineups so I enjoyed those posts. Not a mind-boggling solo from Gorham but really fitting and actually the one track that sums up this lineup as being tighter than a gnatt's ass.

My entry for the "Best solo I'd like to have seen live" competition. Sykes taking the lead role here with Philo, Gorham & Downey. Fuck me - small pub atmosphere and Holy Christ - being introduced by Frank Carson. Sorry I missed it.

Gotta harp on a bit again here guys and post some more Steve Morse stuff as he is undoubtedly the best guitarist alive.

I guarantee you'll actually remember this tune as well as rating the axemanship:

Bit faster technique displayed here (to be honest I think hes on a windup its soooo easy and casual) but still with the famous Morse "feel":

And finally, how to say STFU in the nicest possible way:

  2. Great thread this, brilliant mix of some stuff already on my radar and other material thats new to me.

I sense a drift towards the middle of the road in some of the last few posts so lets crash straight into the central reservation with this one:

Btw - as a matter of interest how do you guys embed videos?

  3. Being an ancient aul git I it took me donkeys years to move to CD from Vinyl and I'm still stuck on books here.

Was talking to a couple of mates about the Kindle the other day and was making the point that I'm a bit of a snob in terms of what I read and actually enjoy sitting on hols and "posing" on the beach or by the pool with my current read (like anybody would actually give a fuck what I'm reading). Guess its a little like the cover artwork being a big part of owning old LPs. Or something.

Anyhow, my mate gave me the weirdest look and said "What the fuck are you on about? Most of the time I don't want anybody to know what I'm reading, not the other fucking way round". He has a point, I guess.

  4. I feel like wrapping a rope around my testicles, securing the other end to a post and then jumping off the Runcorn bridge, after reading this thread.

Bloody hell mate, steady on. You'll need more than a magic sponge to sort yerself out after that one

  5. I'll be fairly happy if/when Adam arrives - looks like a decent piece of business for the club and I think hes a player who can do a job for us.

But to compare him to Souness in his pomp? Naaah don't think so, Souness was scarily awesome.

  6. The scumbag ladyboy. Clue was in the title :)

Ok didn't get away with the delaying tactic. He never winked at me I'm tellin' ya.

Was trying to give myself time to fire up the plastic brain and think of a lot of reasons to pick Barnes. Now we've had all these replies that as a Liverpool fan I'd agree with.

Barnes = great player, one of ours and fantastic guy.

Ronaldo = *cough* player, a fuckin manc and total cunt.

Would be interesting to hear opinions outside the family on this one. Wonder what Digger himself would say for example?

  7. At best we'll be getting Adam, Downing and a LB.

    That's the minimum requiremnt.

    Is it enough?

    No.

    Hilarious.

I'd be reasonably satisfied with who you are clearly certain in your ITK way will be our signings this summer. What is it btw - source within the club? Crystal ball(s)? Are you Damian or Kennys personal butler?

Plus Henderson plus anyone else not on your all-seeing radar, plus some very promising youngsters Kenny appears to be keen on bringing through.

Frankly I don't give a fiddlers flying F*** if we finish in the top four next season as IMHO we probably will within the next five years and hopefully win the thing. Europe would be nice. So would a cup. CL even better.

One thing I'm expecting is that the football will be a hell of a lot better to watch with pass & move than at times in the past couple of years and to be honest thats a biggie for me.

  8. It's obvious really.

We don't have the players or finances to compete.

    It's a depressing situation, but I think it's a likely scenario.

We haven't bought one player who will improve the squad. We've missed out on about four or five targets so far. At least.

We won't be getting any "dream signing" like Aguero, Martinez, Moutinho, Sanchez, Banega or whoever.

We've got rid of some awful owners for some (apprently) better ones, but what the fuck has changed?

Kenny replaced a hopelessly inappropriate nobody who everyone with any fucking brains at all knew would be a disaster. Big wow.

    But apart from that?

Nothing. We won't be back in the CL next season.

Newsflash - it isn't obvious really at all is it?

I don't know for a fact whether we will or will not finish in the top 4. Neither do you. This post says more about your own attitude to the team's prospects to be honest as:

    a) Its way too early to be posting stuff like this - you or I have no idea how the rest of the transfer window will go (I'm betting fairly well)

    b) We saw improvement under Kenny in the latter half of last season - will that get even better as he settles in or prove to be a flash in the pan (I'm betting we'll see a higher level in our performances next season)

    c) I'm a miserable bastard generally and certainly a fully paid up member of the "glass half empty - wait a fuckin minute this glass IS empty" brigade but I'm looking forward to next season.

    d) We're fuckin light years away from the depths of doom that we were in not so long ago under G&H. Thanks in no small measure to the efforts of true fans we have pulled ourselves out of that mire and are now in a position to be much more positive about the future. Funny thing is some whoppers are not "willing" (as opposed to "able") to take that view. You couldn't fuckin make it up. :wallbutt:

  9. You may or may not know that about 8 months ago the Drummer and founding member and basically the lifeblood of progressive band Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy, left the band. Apparently it was due to severe burnout and he'd just wanted a 5 YEAR hiatus. The rest of the band were not willing to take that much time out of their careers so they went their separate ways.

That left Dream Theater in need of a new drummer. So they undertook an extensive audition process where they whittled the contenders down to, who they believe to be, the 7 best drummers in the world.

They also filmed it for our entertainment.

Even if you're not a fan of the band it proves an interesting insight into the audition process of a really top class professional outfit. Absolutely fucking tremendous musicians the lot of them.

    I implore you to watch.

    Brilliant stuff

I'm an early riser and just sat through all three episodes - great insight into the musical lives of some top top performers. Tbh I've been more of a John Petrucci fan to date, his Suspended Animation solo album is incredible but I'm sure as hell gonna check out some more Dream Theatre stuff on the back of this.

Thanks for posting, really really enjoyed that.

  10. And a barrel full of rep to anyone who can find a link to the perennial Peel-show favourite "The End of Civilization as We Know It" by The Molesters.

Can't post urls yet (so talking in code here ffs) but I think you may find what you're looking for on this new-fangled jukeboxy thing residing somewhere on the south coast good sir...

wobbleU wobbleU wobbleU dot punkbrighton dot co dot uk slash downloadmp.html

Some other decent stuff on there too btw...

  11. I've been sporting a luxuriant growth of face fungus for over 20 years now. Sometimes it's been down to a goatee, other times a full on "that bloke from Jethro Tull". At the moment it a bit longer than Clint Eastwood above.

Either way, through the journey of life, my beard has stuck with me. For the good times, and the bad, one thing has been constant, and that is the hirsute essential man upon my face. Grow your beard and rejoice, for what's more, my son, you'll be a Man.

Sorry guys, had to vote yes on this one for two reasons -

    1/ the bolded quote above.

2/ had a vague memory of something called "Beardology" that did the rounds a year or two ago. Was basically a group of students who tried to grow the most impressive beards & moustashes so thought I'd be able to post a pic or two here. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT Google Beardology & click the third link - I'm clearing out my browsing history as we speak...

  12. Didnt people feel the same way about Benayoun? Until he forced in that goal by charging into the post?

Well I can only speak personally but I didn't.

Always thought that although being a bit lightweight physically Yossi wasn't afraid to chuck it in when it mattered. I got the impression that his fouls committed stats were quite impressive *cough* errrr... I mean relatively high considering his slight stature.

Might be wrong though - can't be arsed to check, just an impression.

  13. He's absolutely fucking shite. Another player who seems better when there's no actual football being played because the season's over. He's brutal. The lad has no fucking energy at all, like some sort of limp wristed butterfly, very occasionally he may land on a tree and you go "awwwwwwww", it's the Red Winged Butterfly Aquilanias! And he's settled down on a tree - isn't that brilliant! No. It's rubbish.

    Poetic and fuckin perceptive.

I too fear the Aquilani @ Liverpool saga will end badly.

    Reason - lack of cahunas.

The jury is stiil out on Meireles too on this one - get the doctor in asap, check the cahunas and if (as i suspect) they're missing or lacking get fuckin rid post haste.

Oh and bring back Tommy Smith & Jimmy Case - fuckin proper midfielders they were.

  14. Typical journo mistranslated bullsh*t, or is there something else to this? His agent is Pep's brother apparently.

Typical journo mischievousness bullsh*t I'd say.

Personally I'm gonna kick back, relax and await the counter stories on this one, if anybody thinks they need to actually bother their arse to reply - complete non-story and dead in the water IMHO.

  15. Pleased to report that Kenny is receiving a well-deserved honorary degree this morning at University of Ulster. Not sure if its his first, but nice to see some more recognition for a man I have the utmost respect for.

From the University's programme notes -

    Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish

    (Friday 1 July 2011, morning)

Glaswegian Kenny Dalglish, one of the UK’s most

successful football players and managers, is to

receive the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) for

services to soccer and charitable activity.

Beginning his professional career with Glasgow Celtic,

he won every domestic club honour a professional

could achieve, as well as winning three European

Cups with Liverpool FC. In the 1980s, as Liverpool’s

player-manager, he led the club with great dignity

through the Hillsborough disaster, which claimed 96

lives. He took over as Liverpool’s caretaker manager

in January 2011 and in May signed a three-year deal

    to continue in the role.

Mr Dalglish has also been a tireless fundraiser for

    cancer charities.
