  1. Last season had a horrendous second half. Only 18 points in the last 19 games. We had almost double that in the first half with 34 points. Actually for half seasons Kenny's point totals were. 33, 34 and 18, which might indicate why FSG lost faith in him.[/QUOTE]

hi mate, i dont post on here too often as is obvious from my number of posts, and im not trying to turn this into a fight about if kenny should have stayed on or not, but while few people would contest that 18 points from 19 games is very bad, 67 from 37 under kenny in the calendar year 2011 can only be described as very good. the fact the owners appeared to have told him finish in the top 4 or else and then never backed him last january makes me wonder if they had lost faith in him already or if they were waiting for any excuse to get rid because they didnt particularly want him to begin with. i might be dead wrong but if im right results in the league in the second half of last season gave them that excuse

  2. I don't know the answer to the question, sorry, but it will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Rodgers will have had more time with the players and presumably we will strengthen in January. On the other hand we have yet to play some of the better teams at their place.

Fourth is not beyond us yet. I doubt we will get it, but I am hoping we at least have a good go in the second half of the season.

    my sentiments exactly

  3. its something we are traditionally good at isnt it

any volunteers to tell me how many times in the past 20 years we have got worse league results in the second half of the season than the first half of it ?

my guess (and i may well be wrong) is 3, im going with 96/97, 09/10 and 11/12 as the three exceptions to the rule, im just interested to find out if im right or even close, thanks

  4. Well were 2 out of 2 from these 7 winnable fixtures , such a great chance to go 4 out of 4 with those 2 home games coming up.

Read earlier that was our first back to back league wins for a year , madness that is , wonder when we last won 3 or 4 on the trot ?

fairly sure last time we won 3 in a row was birmingham newcastle and fulham just before kenny was made permanant.

last time we did 4 was wolves fulham stoke and chelsea in jan/feb 2011

  5. in answer to the question

acceptable after 19 games in a keep the manager in his job kinda way, about 9 points above the bottom 3

acceptable in an "id take it now if i was offered it" way id say 15 points from our next 8 in the league.

looking thru the fixtures i have us getting 12, hope we do better, i came to this conclusion because im thinking

    wigan (h) win

    swansea (a) draw

    spurs (a) loss

    southampton (h) win

    west ham (a) draw

    villa(h) win

    fulham (h) draw

    stoke(a) loss

  6. The results aren't misleading - they are what they are.

What it goes to show though is that changing managers from a position of strength (Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish) gives you a much better result than changing from weakness. As we've been weak off and on the field for the last few years it's going to take time to turn it around, and it needs the whole club to get it's shit in order.

Mind you, if the results were contrasted from the previous 10 games of the season prior to the new manager taking over, perhaps that would be an interesting way of looking at it.

when we got 10 points from 10 games as opposed to 11 from 10 now, i prefer my way of looking at it

  7. First 10 games in first full season:

    Rodgers: 12. Liverpool 10 2 5 3 13-15 11p

    Dalglish: 6. Liverpool 10 5 3 2 14-10 18p

    Hodgson: 12. Liverpool 10 3 3 4 10-14 12p

    Benitez: 6. Liverpool 10 5 2 3 18-10 17p

    Houllier: 12. Liverpool 10 4 2 4 11-10 14p

    Evans: 5. Liverpool 10 6 2 2 24-10 20p

    Souness: 12. Liverpool 10 4 4 2 11-8 16p

    Dalglish: 2. Liverpool 10 6 3 1 25-11 21p

    Fagan: 2. Liverpool 10 6 2 2 12-6 20p

    Paisley: 3. Liverpool 10 6 1 3 17-8 13p (19p)

    or in this order

    Dalglish: 2. Liverpool 10 6 3 1 25-11 21p

    Evans: 5. Liverpool 10 6 2 2 24-10 20p

    Fagan: 2. Liverpool 10 6 2 2 12-6 20p

    Paisley: 3. Liverpool 10 6 1 3 17-8 13p (19p)

    Dalglish: 6. Liverpool 10 5 3 2 14-10 18p

    Benitez: 6. Liverpool 10 5 2 3 18-10 17p

    Souness: 12. Liverpool 10 4 4 2 11-8 16p

    Houllier: 12. Liverpool 10 4 2 4 11-10 14p

    Hodgson: 12. Liverpool 10 3 3 4 10-14 12p

    Rodgers: 12. Liverpool 10 2 5 3 13-15 11p

bad luck and being screwed by officials continuing from last season, owners shafting him and us being less of a draw than when all the other managers (bar hodgson, and arguably kenny the second time) were here makes tht stat somewhat misleading

  8. It'd be madness to start Gerrard and Suarez, IF they are (and you'd presume that they are) to be starters on Sunday as well.

I suppose the other way of looking at it is that Everton would probably beat our best, rested, XI anyway.

These sort of decisions are the ones that managers live or die by. This is the point in a monopoly board where you land on Community Chest and advance to Pall Mall, or you go to jail. If he plays a 'weakened side' (and I have my own thoughts on which players would make us weaker or stronger) and we lose to Anzhi, then it's still no guarantee that we will beat Everton. We could field a 'weakened side' and win both games, likewise we could lose them both with either a weak or a strong side. It will be the context around a defeat that will damage him, and that's why he cant be seen to leave his 'best players' out of the Everton game, or have them in any way tired, because if we lose then people will point out that he fucked up the selection vs Anzhi.

I think we can win both games, but everyone in the squad is going to play games over the next two weeks, it'll be tiring for everyone even under those circumstances.

We have Anzhi at home tonight, then Everton early on Sunday, then Swansea in the cup on Wednesday night, then Newcastle at home the following Sunday, then an away in Russia on Thursday, then an away vs Chelsea on the Sunday, and finally a 6 day rest ahead of our next league game.I think we start off on the wrong foot entirely if we start our 'best team' tonight, especially with players like Gerrard, Johnson and Agger who have a history of picking up injuries during a season.

Another point I'd like to make is that having Suarez and Gerrard on the bench is worrying for an opposition manager, because you always have it in the back of your mind that they can come on and play in a few different positions. It's also a massive lift for the team, perhaps at a time when you're tired, to see either or both of them come off the bench on 65 minutes.

The other aspect is that Anzhi would have very little idea about someone like Adam Morgan, or Yesil.

its only a 6 day rest for players not playing an international friendly that wednesday, we play greece in dublin and england play in sweden on the 14th, i would imagine most international teams will have a friendly that night

  9. predictions for all the competitions next season, just for fun. obviously there is ages left in the window and we don't know who else we'll bring in or who will leave, not to mind the other clubs, but you can change your mind anytime you want, just for fun how do you see it going ? ill go myself first

    final league position 6th

    Europa league progression quarter final

f a cup progression semi final

    league cup progression 3rd round

  10. Wigan away i reckon' date=' Martinez vs Rodgers, assuming the former's still there.[/quote']

cant see it, wigan away will be on a miserable shitty weeknight, bad match where we fail to win again, i would think. the only positive i could see when it looked like we were appointing martinez (which im glad we didnt) was he may actually know them so well we'd finally win there

  11. If the first game of last season we were at home, then this seasons first game will be away.

Thats how it use to work anyway.

we've been at home on the first day the past 2 in a row.

i might be wrong but i think we were away first something stupid like 5 or 6 in a row before that, fairly sure it was at least 3 though, spurs 2009, sunderland 2008 and villa 2007
