I hate saying this as it sounds really insensitive, but it isn't for the families of the 96 to decided whether supporters are allowed to stand or not. And in any case, standing wasn't the cause of it.

 

Safe standing - a world away from what was on offer to supporters 20 years ago - needs to be investigated. The German model works, and it can work here.

 

I don't like mentioning it today of all days, but I don't think LFC and football as a whole should be scared of looking at safe standing and we shouldn't be blinded by sentiment.

Rick Parry was there, as were lfc stewards. I just thought it was really inappropriate. Since the club gave us the blocks at the back, Anfield has become a really enjoyable experience in the league. This season and last were probably the best seasons for me in terms of match going experience. And we have proved that we can police ourselves, no problems at all.

Probably a discussion for another day...still thought id just mention it since everyone was talking about it in the pub not so long ago.

It's been a touchy issue, and we've talked about it on here, but the club have backed the standing area to a certain extent at the back of the Kop and it's been a massive success.

I wasnt going to comment on this today but seeing as its already been mentioned and the fact that Treveor Hicks felt the need to bring it up, I thought it was complete inappropriate. Its like he was sending a message to the club about our blocks 304/305/306 at the back. He knows standing had nothing to do with Hillsborough, so why even bother talking about it?

I sympathize with the man, can't imagine what it was like for him to lose two daughters, but was quite shocked with some of the stuff he was spouting.

I moan a lot about our support at Anfield, especially recently, but yesterday made me appreciate just how good our support is. So glad i'm not associated with some classless small time gimps like the Chavs.

When that fella shouted 'we want justice' and our fans broke into the 'justice for the 96' chants, well that was a really proud moment.

A lot of people complaining about the 'heckling' when he announced he was representing the Prime Minister and the government...well I think those people had a right to vent their frustrations, don't you? We've had enough lip service, and not enough action.

I won't comment on Hicks' comments on standing amongst other comments, as this isn't the right time, but a fantastic speech from the Lord Mayor, absolutely spot on.

Yeah come to think of it I remember us boycotting the programmes that day.

Also might be a bit off topic here, but does anyone think its a bit insensitive of Carlsberg to sponsor a stand where we lose 96 of our fans?

I think the S*n were the matchday sponsors for the game against us, rather than them sponsoring the stand. I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it.

 

It's pretty fucking despicable really, as the S*n will have known how we'd react to it, and Sheff Wed should have been more sensitive.

Oh right, my mistake. I was quite young at the time, I think it was around 97. The point still stands though, I remember our end going mad after they heard it being announced.

Pretty sure that carlsberg sponsered the new leppings lane stand just recently.
