  1. He was more the under 18 first choice wasn't he? Didn't he just get moved up to Melwood this summer?

Still it is a bit weird that he seems to have got ahead of Kelly, especially as Kelly played more in the pre-season.

Kelly was played mostly at RB during the pre-sesason. Ayala played more at CB. Presume that's why Rafa opted for Ayala ahead of Kelly. It's good to see a few of the young lads a run out. Hopefully we see more of jay, kelly, nemeth and patches this year.

  2. You can only play 3 at the back if Agger is playing. You can't afford to have three people sitting back and at least with Agger there, he can bring the ball out of defence - a bit like a sweeper kind of system - build from the back and all that.

As for Pacheco, he defo seemed to have more about him when he was playing CM the other week (against Lyn?). He isn't the fastest of players but has good 'game intelligence' as Rafa likes to say. He has promise as does nemeth, so hopefully Rafa puts them on the bench a good bit this season and gives them a few minutes to show what they can do at the top level. El zhar got a lot of time last year and to be perfectly honest, he did fuck all

  3. Blueshite McMoneyman by far. At least we got something for Owen and Alonso.

    Too right

Macca is right up there, definitely ahead of Owen.

Like most others, it is hard to dexcribe Xabi as a traitor.

At least with Xabi he left on our terms. Don't forget Rafa was shopping him around last summer. After all that he had a fantastic season and probably was our best player.

At least none of these are as bad as that traitor Chimbonda at Wigan. Glad to see he has done fuck all since leaving them.

  4. it's amazing how we let players contracts run down, Insua is another one who's contract is running down. Hopefully someone doesn't forget to renew it

I seem to remember that he was very homsick last summer and was itching for a move back to Spain then. I imagine Rafa was just doing what he could to hold onto him. He started the season well, but has severe issues with his hammies, was out injured for a good bit over the crimbo. Johnson is better than him, but not that much, so if Johnson is worth 18m, then surely Bob is worth 10m+. I'll be disappointed to lose him. Very few wingers got the better of him...didn't he shut down Messi in his first start...classic

  5. We bought the lad for £18m and since being with us he has proved that he can perform at the top level. There is no doubt that Masch is the most effective defensive midfielder in world footballer. He has his faults though, he is an incredibly bad passer of the ball so not too good in open play.

On top of that, as was previously said, Masch is most effective against the bigger teams, but Rafa feels obliged to throw him in against some of the less footballing sides where he doesn't add anything to Liverpool.

If Barca came in with an outrageouse offer of, say £40m, then it would make sense to sell.

Who we could buy - I don't know. You are not going to get a carbon copy of Masch, and to be honest, you don't want a carbon copy, you need someone who is better on the deck.

Bottom line - if he is to go, he should leave on our terms

  6. To be fair, the manager has a huge amount of trust and confidence in Kuyt which can't be said about Babel. Which is what Rebel refers to I think.

However, when he had the chances I don't think Babel did enough to warrant that trust and confidence. In fact he wanted to go back to Ajax on a loan at the start of the season. This is the kind of attitude I don't want to see in a Liverpool player.

Good point Carra. Confidence is a word Rafa uses a lot. There was another thread somewhere talking about Rafa building a team of captains - a team of leaders - people he can rely on. If you were looking at players to fit into this category, then you would mention; Mash, Kuyt, Stevie, Nando, Carra and Xabi...I don't think the name Ryan Babel would come into the equation.

He is undoubtedly a guy with talent, but if he can't produce it regularly then I wouldnt' say no to an early exit - if we had the cash, you would say a loan move would be good.

  7. Too right...there's no point having skill and potential if you don't have work ethic and attitude. Saying that, the left wing position doesn't really suit him.

Kuyt has been absolutely fantastic this season, for a guy who doesn't have a great shot, isn't fast, tall or that skillfull (he has a nice touch every now and then), he exceeds his abilities week in week out.

  8. Ball boys at anfield to speed up play.....

An extra minute added time for every stop in play due to injury.....

The referee decides when there should be a stop in play, players should play on until the referee stops them.....

Yellow card any player that is stimulating, diving etc - to many get away with it.....

Make an injured player stay on the sidelines for 2 minutes before he is let back on......

Players like Drogba who rolls back onto the pitch should be f****** red carded(or at least a yellow).......

If it were up to me, there would be a panel watching the games afterwards and any team/coach who deliberately have tried or suceeded to influence/fool the referee should be deducted points..... (Now there goes Utd and Chelsea's hope of winning a competition......)[/QUOTE]

I like the idea of a panel reviewing the game after it has been played. I think the panel should have the power to apply a yellow card to any player who is charged with timewasting. This yellow card should carry into the very next game in the same competition meaning that a player may start the game on a yellow card. This yellow card would also be added to their tally for the season...get to 5 and your banned for a game, 10 and you're banned for two.

If a player is charged with two counts of time wasting in a game, they would effectively receive two yellow cards and be banned for the next game.

Very hard to convict a person of time wasting though.

Irrespective of the above the Permier League should bring in a rule that Drogba starts each game on a yellow card.

  9. For me it's not about having time or not, it's about taking your chance when it's there.

Very true. Many people make it cos they are given an opportunity due to regulars being injured.

On the other hand, if Insua opted out of the U-21 thing, the could v. well have affected his chances of being promoted to the senior side...e.g. Bentley pulling out of the U-21 thing a few years...questions about whether he should be called up to the senior side...

  10. Luca Toni only really came on the scene in his mid to late 20s. Drogba didn't exactly set the world alight in his early 20s.

The stats look good for Janko, but that matters fuck all until you see him up against defenders from the Premiership...who are in Austria's World Cup qualifying group?

  11. We have trouble breaking down teams and our set pieces could be instrumental in our hunt for a goal and three points, Skrtel is as much a threat as the corner flag so he needs to be dropped.

    QUOTE]

You can't blame Skrtel for not converting the set pieces. He'd have had to be 25 feet tall to reach any of them last night. Awful, awful delivery by Gerrard and Alonso. We're poor at set pieces and have been for ages, but it's the delivery that's the problem

Yeah, fair point - out set piece delivery is shit. In fact most of our crosses into the box are shit.

To be fair, we still only have one CB who looks capable of scoring from set pieces - big Sami. The next best person at getting to the ball on set pieces is Lucas - pity he doesn't know what to do with the ball then

  12. If Torres' does his hammy again, it's season over...simple as that...all the alternative striking options are flawed in some way or other and are most certainly not game winners...they will do a 'job', but only temporarily.

Only option would be to put Sami up front...what a legend
