  1. its a bit early, but chelsea look the team to beat though the loss of essien is a huge blow, their strength in depth is impressive and had they signed robinho i think they would have been pretty much unstoppable.however they didnt which is a huge plus.the scum have had a slow start and it will be interesting to see in the coming weeks how they fit in the quartet of shrek,sulk,pig-ugly and ladyboyin a starting 11.they could have teething problems there plus they have a serious goalkeeper problem, wouldnt be writing them off though, too many goals and alot of experience in their squad.as for arsenal, wil play great football but their squad at this time is not good enough to win the league,no matter how many times the media tell us of the 'genius' of wenger and his young team bullshit. To finish i havent seen a whole lot to fear,we have had a good start, need to maintain it,be positive and we wont be far away

  2. I don't know why anyone would call him a "cunt". They are probably a group of 11 year olds with illegal access to the internet.

unfortunately we all know that this is not the case, there are all too many of these so-called fans who will hurl such abuse at the manager and players, pathetic behaviour really, that is not to say that i find some of rafas decisions puzzling, mind -boggling at times.there is nothing wrong with criticism and debate but some of the vitriol i have witnessed on this forum and others is beneath contempt.rafa is our manager and deserves our full support, still retains mine.its not like we got beat 5-0 yesterday, its early season, once the olympic and spanish euro-championship win cobwebs have disappeared and the new signings have settled in,we will improve,of that theres little doubt, some people need to COP-ON to themselves

  3. some shocking comments so far today. i can understand people's frustration at a certain level but not to the point of the madness i've been reading.

thought rafas tactics to start the match were spot on. play tight, kuyt on the right to help double up and negate ashley young (we did a pretty good job of it too). lucas on the left with dossena overlapping for our width. thought they both did that well too. i don't understand shifting keane wide left so i can't really say but he did put keane back in the middle after a period of time.

losing torres hurts and you could see they didn't show nearly as much fear when defending ngog. add in that we were missing gerrard too and we lacked a bit. put that in perspective along with us playing a top 6 team away from home. as i sit hear watching numancia beating barcelona and also watched bologna beat ac milan at home. there are no easy games period.

the thing clearly lacking today was incisive passing in the final 3rd. the key to playing 4 in midfield in a tightly packed formation is to get the movement from the outside players to come inside and look for gaps. and bizarrely moving keane to the left almost completely negated our ability to play the ball into that gap between their back 4 and midfield. there was too much square and backwards passing today as if we were clearly under instructions to play for a draw. which seems weird considering we started brightly and seemed intent on attacking them.

as for babel not coming on, where do you play him? aurelio was clearly brought on to negate the milner sub and to cover for dossena who'd spent 60 or so minutes bombing forward. i also gather that the reason ngog was playing for torres as opposed to babel has everything to do with babel's fitness. he's still young and i think rafa is still protecting him based on that ankle injury and a tough olympics tournament. the yossi sub to me was because keane worked his ass off for 80 mins and the key area to exploit was that same space in front of their back 4. yossi was the best player to exploit that in a short period of time. bringing babel on out wide would have basically sacrificed our defensive shape on young's side and at that point a draw seemed a decent result.

i'd agree with most that if we are playing this way in 6 weeks time we should be really worried but we've been bedding in a few new players as well as now trying to reintroduce a few who've been away all preseason. this is the time of year when teams like bad. the fact that we are actually getting some results is a testament to both our luck and focus.

voice of reason, well said;methinks alot of people on this forum have lost the plot, some disgraceful and embarrasing comments made here today

  4. I haven't read the whole thread but have just come on. My observations:

    1. That was a very good Standard Liege side. Well done to them, and they wouldn't have looked the slightest bit out of place in the CL proper.

    2. Our form is dodgy again, but our strength of will got us over the line. That augurs well for me, as the form will improve.

    3. Rafa is not playing his system yet this season. He is patching it up and being pragmatic, with two midfielders gone and Gerrard slightly less than his usual blockbuster self because of groin injury.

    4. I expect to see 4-2-3-1 come in again very soon. This seems to be Rafa's preferred system, and we played some very good stuff in the second half of last season with it. That will be back and we'll start to improve our performances beyond all recognition. In the meantime, I'm very happy that we've added the useful trait of picking up wins when we're not at our best.

    5. While Gerrard is out I expect Robbie Keane to score and step up his performances a bit. When Stevie comes back into the side I think it should be at Kuyt's expense, though the value (and weaknesses, to be fair) of Dirk were both seen last night.[/ well said, would agree totally with every point!

  5. -----------------------------------Reina---------------------------------

    Arbeloa--------------Carragher-------------Agger----------------Dossena

    ---------------------Alonso----------Plessis----------------------------

    ----------Keane---------------Gerrard--------------Benayoun--------------

    ---------------------------Torres---------------------------------

would agree with that with the proviso that keane and gerrard interchange a lot,how they work together over the course of the season will be vital to our chances

  6. absolutely disgusted but not surprised, these were probably the same fuck-wits who booed voronin and chanted that 'kean-o' shite, clueless fuckin idiots and a disgrace to the club, unfortunately fools like this are to be found all too easily these days:notamused:
