From all accounts it would seem Klopp doesn't rate Moreno.  But....he started the other night, in a game that meant a fair bit to Klopp under the circumstances.

 

I just wonder, or hope, that there is an element of Moreno's flaws that are from an immaturity, and that now he's age 25 he might have wobbled his head and seen he's got 5-7 years left in the game and wants to make the most of it.

 

Moreno's a very 'new' player in some ways.  He was officially promoted to the Sevilla first team in Feb 2013, so that's only 4 years ago he really made the step-up, and then 18 months later we're buying the lad for £12m.

 

Since then, a chequered history with us, including a horrible low in the 2016 Europa League Final.  Never really returned from that, and here we are now.

 

And despite that, we had AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli all enquiring about him this summer.

He's not an out and out defensive midfielder. He's all over the pitch putting out fires like Red Adair.

I take it you didn't really watch his performances going off that. He was poor last season. Kante was the big difference in the Chelsea midfield.

I seen enough of him to know he was an integral part of their title winning team. Matic and Kante made up that back 7 and allowed hazard Costa willian or Pedro to do what they wanted up front.

Van Dijk is and always has been for sale though. It's just that Southampton aren't keen on selling to us. Especially after what went on earlier this summer. If Chelsea or City bid for him now, they'd sell.

I think it's gonna take one of them to make a move for him to kick things off.

I didn't think he played well yesterday. Held on to the ball too long, could have played in salah on overlap a few times and didn't bother.

A bit of Googling suggests Portmarnock station is a better bet, if only because of the larger car park. Either way, getting the DART to Lansdowne Road is definitely the way to go.

I don't see how with the additional demands of europe this season that these players won't be injured/unavailable just as much as last season.

 

For my money we need as a matter of urgency:

 

A first choice centre half who drops Lovren to first back up

 

A centre half who is an upgrade on one of the other current back ups of Klavan and Gomez (especially as it looks like Gomez is being tagged as right back cover)

 

A centre midfielder who slots into starting line up.

Klopp agrees with you on two of those hence the summer long pursuits of van dijk and Keita. Whether we have other targets for these positions remains to be seen.

Coutinho aside every single one of them can be improved upon. Any team that has a go will slice through that midfield

I agree that a dm is required to help us defend better but as you said it's not happening.

I think a lot of people are starting to realise that klopp isn't going to scrap all these 'mediocre' players. He rates them and is going to try to improve them.
