  1. If people are going to suggest in a public forum that there is an unsavoury agenda in place at the club, they must be prepared to substantiate it, not make thinly-veiled intimations only to hide behind the threat of potential libel action. Spill the beans with some facts/testimony or at least nod us in the way of where you're going with it. Otherwise it'll be scrutinised or ridiculed.

  2. I study at Salford quays and live a few miles from this shithole. Cycle past their wankstain of a stadium everyday. Whenever there are people taking photos outside I get in shot and do the five times salute. This statue needs pulling down and melting. Vacuous cunt.

  3. Favourites: Istanbul, Belgrade, Tirana, Split, Sarajevo (also honourable mentions to Sofia, Budapest, Gdansk, Zagreb and Zadar).

Least favourite experiences: Las Vegas, Bucharest, London. It's a little unbalanced to name cities in your home country but London truly depresses me. (I would also say that Nottingham, Stoke, Wolverhampton, Leicester, Coventry are dreadful).

  4. Walking on wet tiles/marble or down slippy, uncarpeted stairs in flip flops.

Slipped up in the bathroom when I was about 12 due to wet tiles, smacked one of my front teeth right up into my jaw, it ended up inside my nostril. Had surgery on it for a year before it was put right,

If I now find myself in a slippy environment I instinctively cover my teeth with my tongue.

  5. Hmm the value of your opinion just took a major hit by disrespecting Budapest. I loved it.

It is a good city yes, but the point I was making was you can get blinded by the grandiose Hapsburg architecture and well oiled tourist trade to the detriment of having a good time in such places.

  6. But you didn't find it... beautiful, did you?

I've been living in Belgrade since forever and find it still difficult to grasp tourists' fascination with it.

    It's the long-legged girls, right?

It's not beautiful in the accepted definition of the term, but I was never one for the Viennas or Budapests of the world. Ah fuck it, yes, it's all about the girls.

  7. This post fills me with wonder, I had such a fantastic time in Pula especially as well as Porec and Otok Pag, so I can only imagine what else is in store. Just based on it's geography and an instinct I had a feeling Albania would be good and heard great things about Bulgaria and Serbia before.

I can't praise Belgrade highly enough, been twice now and will return again... but I will certainly see the "real" Serbia soon, maybe next year.

And Albania has the best beaches in Europe. Croatia and Montenegro's are great but sadly attract too many package tourists which has lead tacky to hotels, inauthentic cafes and poor quality restaurants. When both these countries join the EU this will be even worse.

Albania though has not embraced tourism in the slightest and is all the better for it

  8. Good thread, and I feel quite inclined to post as I am now in my ninth week of travelling the Balkans which is by far my favourite region in the world.

Flew to Split, went down to Metković which is on the BiH border, up to Mostar then Sarajevo (incredible city). Worked my way back to the coast and down to Montenegro, stopping in Kotor and Budva before minibussing it down to Tirana, Albania. This city is a FUCKING MUST for anyone who wants to travel.

Bussed over the border to Macedonia where I went to Ohrid (beautiful) and then Skopje. Took a day trip to Prishtine (Kosovo) which was an experience I will never forget.

Then to Sofia, Bulgaria before the night train to Istanbul. Back to Veliko Tarnovo (medieval capital of Bulgarian kingdom) then Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj and Timisoara in Romania.

Then to Belgrade, which is the best city I have ever been to.

Zagreb up to Ljubljana, through Istria down to Zadar, back to Split and spet some time in Hvar Otok.

I take issue with whoever said that Zagreb is a shithole. Better than any city in the UK for sure.

For those of you who have not been, all the good stuff on here about Croatia is totally true. I have been coming here since I was about 11, can speak a fair bit of their fucked up language (seven different ways of saying most words depending on how you are referring to it - what the fuck?) and would have no problem living here even if the endemic corruption, unemployment and low wages are taken into account.

If you do come you need to visit Dalmatia and Istria (and Slavonia - bit by the Serbian border - if you can), but get away from the tacky coastal bits and see the villages. Inland Istria is ten times better than the homogenous Poreć, Pula etc up there.

Also get to the islands - Hvar, Korčula, Mljet, Vis, Brac - there are over a thousand and each inhabited one has its own unique history, language and identity.

Best places I went to this time were Sarajevo, Tirana, Ohrid, Istanbul and Belgrade.

    Cheap as hell, too.

Edit - Oh and the drink and food everywhere is amazing.

  9. Northern Brazil is class' date=' the coastal area between Belem at the mouth of the Amazon down to Salvador is awesome. I got a boat from Iquitos in Peru along the entire Amazon River over two weeks sleeping in a hammock on the deck. The language difference did come as a shock, hard language Portuguese. I thought Chile and Uruguay were a bit boring.

I've just been laid off, and as of totday I'm unemployed. So, I've just bought a one way ticket to Mombasa leaving start of October. Gonna travel down through [b']Tanzania[/b], Zanzibar, Rwanda and go to the Lake of Stars Music Festival in Malawi for the 15th-17th October (ran by the fella who runs Chibuku Shake Shake), then go to Mozambique, Zambia, Ethiopia and Madagascar afterwards for a month or two until I get another job.

vinspired Lake Of Stars Malawi Music Festival

Climbed Kilimanjaro in February, loved Tanzania.

Sounds like a peach of a trip that.

  10. In 2002, I was sixteen and chose my name in support of Jerzy after his stinker of a game against the mancs. Started reading the fanzine since 1999 though (when it was on Teletext, yo). Probably the definition of a floating forumite - sometimes go two years between posts - but always end up returning.

It's far to say every aspect of my life has changed apart from I masturbate more these days.

  11. A pack of fags in service station just before getting to Luton airport... something like seven quid. Then found out Luton is a no smoking airport. Landed in destination where they less than two quid a pack with identical, untouched, sealed English ones in my pocket. What made things worse was the flight was delayed by ten hours.

  12. Anywhere on the planet? If somebody offered me that I'd be saying balls to anywhere you can get an easy flight to and there is anything resembling home. If I were you I'd be researching West Africa, the Amazon, Middle East, North Korea, Nepal or going across Russia on the Trans-Siberian railway. Promise me you will not follow everyone else and waste this opportunity.
