The Modern Formation - Is Kenny Creating a Jurassic Park?
~LFCHistory~ replied to silverlining's topic in FF - Football Forum
Maxi, Bellamy and to a lesser extent Kuyt can play in a modern, fluid set up IMO. Agree with you about Downing though, he is a very, very average player, he cost us 20m but in reality is probably worth 7/8m. The English Albert Riera. Understand your concerns about our transfers, style of play and set up this season. TBF we brought in and let go of a lot of players this summer and it was always going to take time to integrate them. We are now 8 games into the season, the bedding in period should be nearly over. 3 very important games coming up against Norwich[H], WBA[A] and Swansea[H], those are the type of teams we should be beating to strengthen our claim on a top 4 finish. However drop more than 4 points and doubts may begin to set in.- 83 replies

We have width now with Enrique, Downing, Bellamy, Johnson, Kelly and even Kuyt. However we still haven't improved in an attacking sense from last season. Perhaps a lack of out and out wide players was never the problem ? Perhaps what we really needed this summer was to buy an attacking player of genuine top quality to take us to the next level ?

Liverpool v Man Utd, Saturday, 15 October 2011
~LFCHistory~ replied to Iceman's topic in FF - Football Forum
-------------------Reina------------------- Kelly-------Carra-------Agger-----Enrique -----------Lucas--------Spearing---------- Kuyt-------------Gerrard-----------Bellamy ------------------Suarez------------------ That's probably our strongest 11 right now. Put Spearing in the middle to replace Adam who is frankly a liability in my mind, can just imagine him constantly get getting caught out by Scum players in the middle and wasting possession with hollywood passes that miss their target by 20 yards.- 655 replies

Has Torres's betrayal affected your view of our players?
~LFCHistory~ replied to Section_31's topic in FF - Football Forum
Exactly. He fooled both himself and the fans. That's probably part of the reason he's still hated, we were all taken in by a lie, the lie being Fernando's love for the club, the fans and the city. -
Has Torres's betrayal affected your view of our players?
~LFCHistory~ replied to Section_31's topic in FF - Football Forum
The way Torres left taught me to never become emotionally attached to any Liverpool player. It is isn't the fact that he joined a hated rival or put in a transfer request a few days before deadline, it's because he spent his first 3 years at this club telling the fans he loved them and that this club and city felt like 'home' to him. But as soon as things became difficult (09/10 season) he immediately began making plans to leave but was forced into staying during Summer 2010 to help the club get sold, but as soon as January came around he was off. The OP made a good point about Suarez, when he scores/performs well it feels bittersweet to me because with each good performance he gives Real/Barca will be eyeing him up. -
Exactly. Imagine betraying a club's entire philosophy on playing football just to accommodate one player because of his price tag.

Anyone have a theory as to why Real and Barca seem to be struggling so far this season ? I know it's early and everything but have teams figured out a way to stifle Barca ?? Or are both teams just slow starters ?
-
Excellent point. He scored 1 in 2 with Newcastle last season while being surrounded by average team mates, now he's at Liverpool and surrounded by quality players he should be scoring almost a goal a game and terrorising defences by your logic. Oh, wait........
-
Perhaps one of the reasons he was a success at Newcastle was because expectations/pressure is so much lower there than at LFC ?? Oh and BTW why is it stupid to say Carroll looks out of his depth ?? Dalglish wants us to play a style based on quick, accurate passing and off the ball movement, please explain where AC fits into that.
-
Carroll will probably be given until the end of the season to prove he belongs here. In the 8 months he's been here he has looked so far out of his depth it's not even funny, Kenny and Clarke will I'm sure do everything within their power to get the best out of him. I he fails to prove himself will KK and Commoli sell him for a fraction of what he cost or would that scenario be simply too embarrassing for the club ??

League Cup 3rd Round: Brighton (A) 21/09/11
~LFCHistory~ replied to Monster Masch's topic in FF - Football Forum
Good call, although I'm not sure if Kelly is fit, if he isn't put Flanagan in. This game is vital for a number of reasons. We haven't won in a trophy in 5 years so every cup tie must be taken seriously with as strong a line up as possible. The lads confidence must be shattered after Sunday so a win today will go some way towards healing that. It seems a lot of our fans want Carroll in the starting 11 tonight so he can ''get minutes''. Well as I've already said this game is very important and unfortunately I believe that if AC starts tonight we will lose. All the evidence points to the fact that we are a different team without AC. If Kenny puts out the right starting 11 we should win, oh and hopefully Stevie will make an appearance from off the bench too. 2-0 -
First game of the season: Sunderland @ Home
~LFCHistory~ replied to Randy Marsh's topic in FF - Football Forum
Still believe we can beat Arsenal next week of course it's a dangerous game but they are in dissaray and hopefully Kenny will put out a better starting 11 next week. Top 4 is very achieveable, just will be tougher than what many fans thought.- 625 replies

~LFCHistory~ replied to Randy Marsh's topic in FF - Football Forum
Last season people said Carroll was poor for us because he wasn't getting service/ammunition. Well now he is getting the service from Downing and he is still poor. Looks like the new excuse is that he is isolated and we need to sign another striker. If Carroll is a genuine top four player who belongs at Liverpool then surely we should'nt have to constantly change our team and style of play just to suit him ???- 625 replies

Carroll/Liverpool = Zlatan/Barca
~LFCHistory~ replied to ~LFCHistory~'s topic in FF - Football Forum
Thanks for that. Before starting this thread my rep was green and now it's red. Could the posters that negged me please explain why ? Perhaps I missed something but I started this thread to merely discuss the possibility that there are similarities between Zlatan at Barca and Carroll at LFC. I am not a WUM or attention seeker. Also if you read my original post you will see that I never once said that Carroll will fail here as he has only been here for a number of months and IT IS too early to come to any conclusions. I just find it slightly sad that anybody who has an opinion that goes against the party line is immediately attacked.
