  1. Just a little thread for those of us who appreciate stuff at the other end of the scale from the more popular (on here, at least) rock side of things. So, to get us started, Gilles' show this week is a tribute to John Lucien and Max Roach who both died last week. It's jazz-tastic. Nice. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson/index.shtml
  2. The ultimate nightmare scenario is now looming large Speaking to mates and opinions are split right down the middle Beat Chelsea and hand the mancs their 19 league title, thus overtaking us as the most successful English club domestically and fulfilling Taggarts 22year dream of "knocking us off our fucking perch" or Lose to Chelsea, who then win the title at Anfield. Mongo, Lampard et al winning a League Championship in our backyard. Personally speaking, and I hate to say this, but pour me a pint of Bitter and hand me my blue shirt because I'd happily see us lose that day if it meant them cunts not winning the league. I hate myself for saying this, it goes against everything I stand for. But, I believe the mancs are on the wain and I'm still harbouring a faint desperate hope that we may just sort ourselves out this summer and spend some money. Therefor I'm hoping that the "they'll over take us sooner or later anyway" idea is wide of the mark. What does everyone think?
  3. In the midst of all this transfer talk it seems we have a match to play, even if without Willian, Lamela or Costa it's all rather pointless. Villa are shaping up to be this year's WBA, although they play more like a smaller Stoke on meth. Lambert has them playing outside their skin - there will be some gut checks on our part. Team: Same lot as last week, same subs.
  4. Oooh I've never started a match thread before. Villa played well away to Norwich but I still think that they're poor this season. 3-0. @LFCTS: According to Bib theory: Pepe, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Downing, Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Shelvey, Cole & Suarez
  5. TEACHER OF THE GAME The minority wanted him out of Anfield, but the majority will never forget him. "Veikkaaja" met with Rafael Benitez - a Liverpool legend with a burning desire to teach football. Q) You have not coached since December 2010. How have you spent your time since you left Inter? "I have a website, we wrote a book called 'Champions League Dreams' and created 'Global Coach', a program for football coaches. They can use it to prepare training sessions and to analyze games. I am also involved in my wife's foundation which helps local charities on Merseyside." Q) Does your move to Inter feel, now, like a mistake? "Maybe, if I had known then everything that I know about Inter know. I had to make a decision in that moment. Before we moved I talked with several Inter players about the way we can improve. It was perhaps the first time Inter did not sign any players during the summer for the coach. Why? Financial Fair Play - but they didn't say it to me beforehand. I was promised three players. Everything was agreed, but we didn't sign these players." Q) When you won FIFA Club World Cup, your second trophy with Inter, you criticised the management of the club. Did you want to get sacked? "If you promise something, you have to do it. It was very simple." Q) You also had some difficult times with management of Liverpool. Did your dream job ever make you unhappy? "I didn't have time to suffer or be unhappy because I was trying to fight for trophies and win. And at the same time we tried to defend the club. It was the main thing when the Americans put the dept on the Club. They then appointed a new Managing Director who was a... businessman." Q) Liverpool won amazing Champions League Final in Istanbul in 2005. How did Liverpool come back from 3-0 down against AC Milan? "We started with four at the back, so we were playing two against two in our defence as Milan played with a diamond formation. Our idea was to be better than them in the wide areas, have control in the middle and defend close. Plan was not working because Kaká was doing a great job. After half time we moved to a back three and put Dietmar Hamann on. From then on we were playing three against two in our defence and we controlled Kaká by playing Xabi Alonso and Hamann in front of our defence. We moved Steven Gerrard and Luis Garcia to play on both sides of Andrea Pirlo. In possession our centre backs had to be wide, and we got space in wide areas by switching the ball quickly." Q) How would you describe your football philosophy? "I like to play good football, but the problem is what people consider as good football! The answer is passing game of Barcelona and Spain. My team has always passed the ball and played short passes, but if there is space behind defender, you have to make a long pass. I like my team to play with high intensity, to press the opponent and to keep ball on the floor. Team has to be organized, but at the same time players need to be given freedom within the system." Q) How important is possession of the ball? "You have to have possession of the ball in the right places. And you need to do the right things with the ball with the right tempo. You can pass the ball and have a 85 percentage passing accuracy, but it doesn't matter. You need to have the ball in the final third." Q) Which is more important for you, winning or the process in itself? "You cannot say that winning is not the most important thing. Still, its also important how you approach the upcoming challenge and the game. And also how you approach the style you want your team to play. Balance is the key. You have to find a way to win, you need to find a way. You have to have a plan A, B and C." Q) You got more goals and assists out of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres than any other coach. Why? "I'm coming from the Academy of Real Madrid, I have a degree in Physical Education, I am a teacher. I coached them in a way I wanted and expected them to play in games." Q) How important are the automatization and the patters of attacking play? "As a coach your job is to prepare the training sessions that give players the answers they will need during a game. You have to give them patterns of play, solutions, ways to attack. I want to teach my players, but the player must also understand why he is being asked to do something. Asking questions is the right way to learn." Q) Your coaching colleague and countryman Juanma Lillo has said that "importance of the coach is limited". Do you agree? "If a player has talent, he will find a way - but not all the players have that kind of talent. These are the players that need to be conducted. Its the coaches job: You have to have answers when your players have questions. If you have the right answers, players will trust their coach and do things in a way he wants. Then you can change things during games. Its important to be close to the game and the players, but yet remain on the outside." Q) Are you misunderstood in England? "I think majority of the people understand now that we were trying to compete in Liverpool in difficult circumstances against top sides - with a smaller budget than they had. They know now - after having watched Liverpool during these past two seasons - how difficult it was to keep the team in Champions League every year. Maybe we even overachieved." Q) Does your former protege Sami Hyypia have the potential to develop into a top-class coach or manager? "He is very clever and a very good professional who is good at analyzing the game. Sami has all the potential to become a good coach. I offered to extend his contract for a year and a place in my backroom staff." Q) Did you consider selecting Hyypia to your starting eleven in his farewell game as a Liverpool player? "I think I put him on at the end of the game, no? I tried to give him a tribute from the fans at the end of the game, but the main thing was trying to win the game. I had to think about what was our best team for that game. If I can help somebody after that, I will do it." Q) What are the most important things for you when deciding your next project? "Ambition. Challenge. As you can now see face to face - I like to win. I want to go to a place were I can improve things and challenge." Q) You have said that being a coach is your life, your identity. What makes you happy? "Before I just wanted to be good at my job but now I'm spending more time with my daughters. I enjoy when they are doing well and my wife achieves something. You need to have a balance in life. I was just coming with the family London, but I still watched a game on our way back."
  6. what sort of team does everyone want to see for this? I think any side we put out should realistically be able to beat these but aside from these two legs the Leverkusen game is all they have before the league starts think I'd go --------------Doni*-------------- Kelly----Skrtel----Agger---Enrique -----Henderson--Adam--Shelvey--- Cole----------Borini-----------Sterling subs Jones Carra Johnson Lucas Stevie Downing Morgan *assuming Doni still exists think Johnson's had a bit of an injury so would start Kelly and wouldn't risk Stevie or Lucas with a full game either but look to get them on, realistically though I don't care providing Agger and Skrtel get cup tied!
  7. 'Roger sez', I was told this will make up for yesterday so I fully expect this to lose aswell.
  8. After my incredible performance starting the blue shite match thread I thought I would keel it going by starting this thread also. An interesting read: Liverpool v Stoke FA Cup preview: Luis Suarez can make you look stupid if you stick leg out warns Ryan Shawcross - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk Starting line: Pepe Enrique Carragher Skrtel Kelly Downing Henderson Gerrard Johnson Carroll Suarez I'd expect maybe two changes from that to the actual starting line up. Either way we are going to bum the fuck out of these cunts. I like wine.
  9. Always wanted to start one of these threads. Lot of international talk, but fuck the internationals! Hopefully will come back in one piece, and we'll have a strong squad to pick from. ---------------Pepe------------------ Johnson------Carra-------Skrtel------Enrique Dirk--------Adam-------Gerrard-------Downing -------Luis--------Big Andy
  10. Can't wait for this, finally all the pissing around and jet setting is over. No more suffering watching the Degen's and Poulsen's turn out in a Liverpool shirt! Suarez is back in training, but I don't see him being involved from the start. Pepe Kelly Carra Agger Aurellio Henderson Lucas Adam Kuyt Carroll Downing They may not line up like that formation wise, but that's the starting XI I reckon. It's also great to know that we have a bench which could feature the likes of Suarez, Maxi, Cole, Meireles, Spearing, Aquilani, Shelvey, Skrtel and Johnson, not to mention a hopefully fully fit Steven Gerrard in a few weeks time. Finally a bit of strength in depth, and I reckon we'll see possibly another two in before the window is out.
  11. I know we've got to play these set of no marks in the NoHopers League tomorrow but looking forward to a proper match on Monday. Ashley Young got his 5th booking of the season tonight against Brum so he's missing. P.S In your mum's face MyPost.
  12. Anyone know the team? Not on Official site yet. Pacheco, Wilson and Eccleston are involved, according to John McMahon.
  13. ....if it means Roy will go I do, I can't stand him anymore, the way we play, the things he says, the way the media and cocks like Allardyce and Bruce are sucking him off, his shitty signings and of course he has managed to put a decent squad in the relegation zone....I would take a defeat to the most odious manager in game to get rid of you Roy, that's how urgent it is, that's how you've made me feel about the team
  14. Gerrard and Nando left out - Liverpool FC Why the fuck they need to be rested?? Two months into season, playing shit, why do we need to rest players? The only thing I can think about is the fact that Hodgson know that we´ll get destroyed anyway, so he prepares for excuse " that we rested key players". By the way in article is written that Kuyt, Agger and Johson are injured, and Gerrard with Torres rested. But if you check the travelling squad than it is clear that also Meireles and Lucas are left at home which is little bit surprise for mi, especially in case of Pezzini Leiva, who didn´t play a lot so far so I´ve expected him to start this game. So something like : Reina Kelly Skrtel Kyrgiakos Aurelio ( konchesky) Spearing The Great Dane:wallbutt: Babel Cole Jova N´cock
  15. I am not one to normally start match threads but here it goes. I fancy us to get beat by Blackburn. My concern at the moment is that I don't see us scoring the way we are playing at the moment, we look devoid of ideas and confidence. At the back for us I think we will fall into the trap Everton set for us (pointed out on MOTD2). Pushing the back line into the penalty area and stopping us in our tracks. This is exactly what Big Sam will want.
  16. During Utrecht game, one of the commentators said it wouldn't be easy and if we can nick a win, blah blah blah. Since when should we worry bout them? Is this what we've become?! I keep saying to put out an attacking formation, Torres with Ngog/ Babel, Kuyt, Meireles, Gerrard and Cole and so on. It's like Woy doesn't even read these posts! Next we'll hear... Blackpool are a terrific side and we'll have to stifle them and be on our guard. Despicable. Return to form: 3-0.
  17. Time to move away from the wave of gloom and doom of Sunday, and back to creature comforts as the European run continues against Steaua. It's the last home game in Europe for 7 weeks, so hopefully we'll get a decent crowd, and a decent send off before the trip to the shithole on Sunday. AGENDA: Europa League Group K Game 1/6: v Steaua Bucharest (h) KO: 19:05 GMT/20:05 Local 16 September Host Broadcaster: Channel 5 Sport UK Yes we're on the reserve channel, but at least not stuck on a flimsy red button, as other teams are in Europe this week. All gifts......
  18. After the tv break in our last league game, we're back on the box this week for the first trip this season to Brummieland on Sunday. Hopefully everyone will be back from the international games without a scratch or strain, to play at a ground where it's fair to say, we don't have a great record. AGENDA: League Game 4/38: v Birmingham City (a) KO: 15:00 GMT/16:00 Local 12 September Host Broadcaster: BSKYB Poolmobiles: SC Transport Last Train: 13:35 Lime Street - Birmingham/Return Train: 18:35 And Roy, if you're going to start FT, don't sub him after an hour. Even you should be capable of learning from that mistake.
  19. After the tough start and trip to Turkey, we finally get a break in the ardous obstacles, with a home banker against the yo-yo club. With G&T set to return, the game provides a good opportunity for them to show us exactly what we've been missing for a while. AGENDA: League Game 3/38: v West Bromwich Albion (h) KO: 14:00 GMT/15:00 Local 29 August Host Broadcaster: BBC Sport Web: Satellites/Streams While looking for 6 goals as someone else got against them lately, may be asking a lot with one man alone upfront, half would match our return from our last home game against them, and be a decent return from our first 3pm ko of the season. Lets hope the lads at the game are sent home with no complaints from the last home game for a month.
  20. With a 10-day break, the first game of the season sees us at home for the first time in 7 years, against the Arse. Will Torres play? Will Cole make his mark? Will the new look signings impress us? It's time to hit the ground running. AGENDA: League Game 1/38: v Arsenal (h) KO: 15:00 GMT/16:00 Local 15 August Host Broadcaster: BSKYB Web: Streams If omens are anything to go by, we also played them at home in Kenny's first game in charge and won it, and we know the rewards that season. We start the home programme as we aim to finish it, with games against both North London teams. Good luck Redmen.
  21. We are just over 2 weeks away from the 1st game of the season and whilst I would love to be optimistic about further major new signings coming in to be ready for the 1st game of the season ... I doubt this will happen. So with the players we currently have - what will be our best line up taking into consideration WC, Fitness, Morale, Opposition etc? Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Maxi, Lucas, Gerrard, Cole, Jovanovic, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Kelly, Kyrgiakos, Mascherano, Aquilani, Kuyt, Pacheco
  22. Has been utter bliss, a truly welcome break from all the shit that's going on and has gone on with us. Has for the first time in months felt like the old place and there's been loads of boss banter, haven't seen one crossed word. I am literally giddy at the thought of watching all the games, especially tonight it should be a cracker, I fucking love the world cup.
  23. Who are the FF backing tonight? Personally, I'd like to see Fulham win tonight. Would be great to see Danny Murphy lift a trophy and I've got a lot of time for Hodgson as well. A European trophy would be a deserved reward for the fantastic job he's done there. Can imagine a few on here wanting Atletico though due to the Torres connection. Good to see Platini's still an obnoxious cunt though: Reporter: Mr. Platini, it's a good story to see a small English club in a European final isn't it? Platini: Wiz zer finances, no English club is small.
  24. For those interested. Its all looking a bit sketchy today and the news is a bit vague but this is what I've got. Johnson is injured so Mascherano is staying at right back with the Greek coming in and Agger moving left. And Maxi is in for either Benny or Babel. So by my reckoning its: Reina Masch Carra The Greek Agger Maxi or Benny Stevie Lucas Babel or Maxi Aquilani Kuyt
