  4. by Dave Usher for ESPN Liverpool's overall record in the transfer market during the Premier League era really doesn't make for pleasant reading. Hundreds of millions of pounds have been squandered in a vain attempt to re-establish the Reds as the major force they once were and that ineptitude in the transfer market is the single biggest reason for their failure to win a league title since 1990. Graeme Souness set the ball rolling by blowing millions on Paul Stewart, Julian Dicks, Dean Saunders, Torben Piechnik and others. Poor signings led to the poor results that cost him his job. Roy Evans took over from the Scot but fared little better; buying the likes of Oyvind Leonhardsen, Phil Babb, Bjorn Tore Kvarme and Sean Dundee. Liverpool went close to the title under Evans but failure to add the players who could make the difference proved to be the downfall of the popular Scouser. Next up was Gerard Houllier, who ultimately lost his job because El Hadji Diouf, Salif Diao and Bruno Cheyrou flopped spectacularly. Rafa Benitez enjoyed early success but mediocrity followed, with millions wasted on Robbie Keane, Alberto Aquilani, Andrea Dossena and others. Yet among all the misses there were still plenty of hits. Souness signed Mark Wright and Rob Jones while Evans recruited Patrik Berger, Danny Murphy and Stan Collymore. Houllier's success was based on signings such as Sami Hyypia, Stephane Henchoz, Didi Hamann, Gary McAllister and others, while Benitez can point to Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres as examples of spectacularly good signings he made. As for Roy Hodgson ... well, let's not talk about that. Read the rest of the article here. Click here to view the article

  6. I need a new one. I have a budget of around £500, but don't want to spend that much if I can help it. After a good spec (i5, 500+BG HDD. 6GB+ RAM, etc) and can't cope with one that has a clunky keyboard that's awkward to type quickly on. Find me some good ones, you bastards.
  7. Who do you want to take over the Captaincy for the next Ryder Cup? It seems to be down to Montgomerie and McGinley with Clark still an outside chance. Personally I’d rather McGinley as I think he’s earned it after his successful captaincies in 2 Seve Trophies and as a Ryder Cup vice-Captain also. And of course the fact he’s Irish is a huge plus as well as we didn’t have anyone from the Republic in the last one and it kind of spoiled it a bit for me by not having that link.
  8. This week I bought: Robocop Big Trouble in Little China Escape from New York Cross of Iron Blues Brothers The Running Man You having that one??
  9. seriously what is his problem with liverpool? today's metro he talks about arsenal being out of the title race after losing four matches, and then goes on to talk about the attacking talent of villa and out of nowhere says 'villa now have a more potent attack than liverpool'. seriously, was that called for? what the fuck have liverpool got do with the arsenal/villa game. he is a COCK of the highest order and I for one want to know why he has it in for liverpool with a passion. prick.

  16. Meeting with Rick Parry – Spirit Of Shankly – Liverpool Supporters' Union On Monday evening, representatives of the Spirit Of Shankly (SOS) Management Committee, accepted a request from Liverpool FC Chief Executive, Rick Parry, to attend a meeting. SOS took the opportunity to explain to Mr Parry why the Union had been formed, and expressed deep concern, on behalf of its members, about the present ownership situation at the club. Mr Parry accepted and appreciated that SOS members were unhappy. The Union also expressed concern regarding some of the recently implemented 'ticket allocation' initiatives which directly affect fans such as the 'Belong' membership scheme, the recently announced Thomas Cook graded ticket packages for Liverpool FC home games, and the issue of the new ground. Mr Parry requested that any of these concerns be raised formally in writing detailing any specific issues. Due to time constraints not all issues of concern were covered. As a result, a follow up meeting has been suggested in approximately six weeks time, where we hope to be able to raise further concerns and discuss these in more detail. A more in depth report of the first and any subsequent meetings will be communicated to all members as soon as possible. Our position on the ownership of Liverpool Football Club has not changed and as the current situation sees the club moving further away from its longheld traditions, the Liverpool Supporters' Union is requesting that fans are not forgotten in the movement towards commercial competitiveness. We believe it is possible to compete in the commercial sense whilst still maintaining the traditions many fans hold dear. We want to see improved consultation with fans and we hope and believe a workable situation can be reached. Spirit Of Shankly
  17. we don't defend high enough up the pitch. it effects absolutely EVERYTHING else * central midfielders because they have to drop to deep too cover the defenders * passing because the defense and central midfield are so deep it creates a massive gap between the midfield and attack, passing goes out the window because the options are too spread out. end result midfield bypassed with long hopefull balls up to the attack. * fullbacks because the starting position is so deep it makes it nigh impoosible to cover so much distance getting up the pitch to attack and getting back to defend * attack forwards have to drop deep if they wish to get the ball meaning no one near the pentaly area. it really is that simple. we are shit scared to push ten yards further up field for fear of being caught out in and behind us and its costing every single other aspect of our play. how much effective would yossi, kuyt, keane, alosno etc be if their starting position was 10 yars closer to goal? I thought agger would solve this but I was mistaken.
  18. I'm curious as to how far that trust extends. reading the barry tread it seems there are some that seem glad the owners have turned down the bid for barry, so its a case of trust until he makes a more poor decision? no poll this time, just a simple question; how much do you trust rafa? I may as well start, rafa has my complete trust its not a case of RCDNW (rafa can do no wrong) its more a case of he knows more than I do and even though I think I have a handle of the team he has far more information to hand than I do, he see the players day in and day out and he has a backroom staff that gives him information he doesn't have. if rafa says we need barry then I trust him, if rafa says xabi is surplus I trust him because frankly he has EARNT that trust. that's how I feel. so opinions please.
