Hi forum, I don't use trains much, does anyone know tips on how to get the best fares weeks in advance of travel?

by Dave Usher for ESPN Liverpool's overall record in the transfer market during the Premier League era really doesn't make for pleasant reading. Hundreds of millions of pounds have been squandered in a vain attempt to re-establish the Reds as the major force they once were and that ineptitude in the transfer market is the single biggest reason for their failure to win a league title since 1990. Graeme Souness set the ball rolling by blowing millions on Paul Stewart, Julian Dicks, Dean Saunders, Torben Piechnik and others. Poor signings led to the poor results that cost him his job. Roy Evans took over from the Scot but fared little better; buying the likes of Oyvind Leonhardsen, Phil Babb, Bjorn Tore Kvarme and Sean Dundee. Liverpool went close to the title under Evans but failure to add the players who could make the difference proved to be the downfall of the popular Scouser. Next up was Gerard Houllier, who ultimately lost his job because El Hadji Diouf, Salif Diao and Bruno Cheyrou flopped spectacularly. Rafa Benitez enjoyed early success but mediocrity followed, with millions wasted on Robbie Keane, Alberto Aquilani, Andrea Dossena and others. Yet among all the misses there were still plenty of hits. Souness signed Mark Wright and Rob Jones while Evans recruited Patrik Berger, Danny Murphy and Stan Collymore. Houllier's success was based on signings such as Sami Hyypia, Stephane Henchoz, Didi Hamann, Gary McAllister and others, while Benitez can point to Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres as examples of spectacularly good signings he made. As for Roy Hodgson ... well, let's not talk about that. Read the rest of the article here. Click here to view the article

we require a dribbler & finisher to replace the little biting genius............ (Shaqiri 15-20m) (Bony 20-25m) Sturidge that would have strength/goals down middle and electrifying pace in support out wide Add Origi and the kid Merkovic and it could a silver lining on thiis twat of a dark cloud! 442 Sturridge Bony Skaqiri Hendo Gerrard Sterling

Who do you want to take over the Captaincy for the next Ryder Cup? It seems to be down to Montgomerie and McGinley with Clark still an outside chance. Personally I’d rather McGinley as I think he’s earned it after his successful captaincies in 2 Seve Trophies and as a Ryder Cup vice-Captain also. And of course the fact he’s Irish is a huge plus as well as we didn’t have anyone from the Republic in the last one and it kind of spoiled it a bit for me by not having that link.

fuck it its been ages since a babel thread. will he make it? simple enough question.

Looking at what looks to be our best front four players next season it’s got everything we need really: Gerrard----------------Keane---------------------Babel -------------------------Torres---------------------------- This combination has pace, power, goals, good movement, creativity and looks threatening all over and should be the whole package. Last season we looked threatening down the centre with Gerrard behind Torres, however down the flanks we needed more umph. But with Keane able to play this role behind Torres, Gerrard can give us more threat out wide than Kuyt was providing and I fully expect Babel to kick on this season. Just wondering how highly everyone rates our attack. Who do you think has a better attack than ours in the league or Europe? Man U have Ronaldo and Rooney who are two top players, Ronaldo the best player in the World last season. However I think Gerrard and Torres are just as formidable as a combination. With Keane consistently getting over 20 goals in all competitions he’s comparable to Tevez and personally I rate Babel higher than Nani or Park. Therefore it does make you wonder who does have a better attack, if anyone? On paper we’ve got the firepower to challenge for the league, three consistent match winners and scorers in Gerrard, Keane and Torres. Plus Babel who is capable of joining them. I wouldn’t swap this quartet for any other quartet around, but is that the red goggles talking or is this attack the ‘real deal’?

I'd like to claim the forum right to write a movie script about this whole crazy affair. From the title (see above) I reckon it could be a kind of buddy movie; where they start of as friends and then are torn apart, and they then have to overcome some obstacles (e.g. the S.O.S and any kind of moral conscience that they have left) and then we can dream up some kind of happy resolution (although this will be the most creatively challenging part). The budget I imagine will be slim, so we'll need some of the forum photoshoppers to make up movie posters where Hicks is choking out Parry with a Liverworld scarf while Anfield burns down in the background. I'll also welcome the help of Section31 and any other forum writers to write the script, and we'll also need some actors - someone to play Coco, Moores, Rafa and a few people taped together to play Fat Tom (as his name will read in the credits). I don't want to build up expectations to high, but I reckon this could be an oscar-winning version of Farenheit 9/11 - or more accurately 'Triumph of the Will'. So, who's in?
