Another Saturday 3:00pm kick-off at home, and time to get back on the horse in the League. The abject defeat against Forest provides a steep learning curve for Slot and his coaching staff in particular. It does for the players too of course, but Fede aside the rest were all here last season so should surely remember what happened in the spring. If we didn't already know that we can come unstuck if we are not on it, the Forest game showed what can happen. It's better this sort of thing happens early on to help re-focus minds and understand the challenge, than it happening at the business end of the season when any dropped points can be critical and the nerves kick in. The win and performance in Milan in midweek was a real tonic. The first 5 or 10 minutes aside, we controlled the game and could easily have scored more than the 3 we managed. Mo and especially Cody were in great form which compensated for Diogo looking (more than!) a little off it. Dom became more of a factor as the game wore on, Macca got through a ton of work as always, and Grav again showed quality with both his defensive and offensive attributes. The subs coming on when the game started to meander meant that they didn't look particularly effective. Iraola has proved to be a shrewd coach with Bournemouth, creating a side that offers plenty of attacking pace and thrust while still looking quite well-organised defensively. They sold key man Solanke to Spurs in the summer and brought in Evanilson from Porto for a record fee as a replacement. Defender Dean Huijsen arrived from Juventus and he's a player we were tentatively linked with this summer. They also brought in Kepa on loan from Chelsea. They still have all those wide attacking players who can cause a headache if you let them, such as Semenyo, Tavernier and Kluivert. Scott in midfield has a year of top flight experience behind him now. It's a squad a far cry from Wing Commander Scott 'Scotty' Parker's regiment that got twatted to the tune of 9-0 a couple of years ago. All very well being aware of what they are, but we need to remember what we are too. We have the players and change-up options to really hurt them, so it's more a case of us going out there and showing it. Having a game plan and executing it to a tee with ruthlessness and precision. Slot needs to ensure that the substitutes can have a positive impact for us, and (some of) the crowd need to learn not to shit themselves if things are not quite going to plan. Jurgen spent his entire 8 and a half year spell banging that drum, bringing that same message, railing against the moaners in the Main. He knew how influential the atmosphere at Anfield can be, both ways, so he wanted more positivity to radiate from the fans. It can really lift our team and it can really sink our opponents' morale. How have our previous managers got on in their first home fixture against the Cherries? Bournemouth only came up the season Jurgen arrived, and have also had a spell in the second tier since then so there isn't much history here. Souness...N/A Evans...N/A Houllier...N/A Benitez...N/A Hodgson...N/A Dalglish...N/A Rodgers...17/08/2015...Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth (Benteke) Klopp...05/04/2017...Liverpool 2-2 Bournemouth (Coutinho, Origi) I don't ask for much. Maximum motivation, control, application, attitude and concentration from minute one. 3 points please. Get it done!
