  1. The first home game of the season then, and a chance to build on the second half display at Ipswich. As I write, we've yet to make any signings this season, and the biggest rumour is that Joe is on his way. He wasn't in the squad at Ipswich, and had little involvement in the pre-season friendly double-header last weekend. Of the players who haven't come through the academy, he is the last member of the squad whose arrival pre-dates Jurgen. One more season with us and he'd be on for a testimonial. We've had very few signings stay here for a decade or more since the 1980s vintage started leaving, and Joe moving on this summer would be a sad moment as his versatility and general attitude have proved to be a real asset. Brentford's Ivan Toney is also rumoured to be on his way, perhaps to Saudi. They've spent big on their attack this summer by signing Igor Thiago from Club Brugge (he sound like he should be a classy midfield maestro who looks like he's just woken up) as well as Carvalho from us. The latter needs a regular run of games in order to show that he can thrive outside of the Championship. There are no reports of injuries in our camp. As we know, that can still (and often does!) change but hopefully everyone's in good shape. The likes of Darwin, Harvey and Curtis will want to be involved next weekend having remained on the bench for the season opener. We are still a work in progress as the players and coaching staff get more used to one another, so while I wouldn't expect consistent fluidity just yet, I hope we see more of what worked well against Ipswich. How have our previous managers got on in their first home game against the Bees? It's a very small sample size as they've only been in the top flight since 2021. Maximum motivation, control, application, attitude and concentration from minute one. 3 points please. Get it done!
