    There’s an interesting theory in maths that buses almost inevitably bunch together in 3s because the 1st bus takes longer to load as there are lots of people at the bus stop. Bus number 2 and 3 speed up and reduce the gap to bus 1 because they take less time to load (as all the passengers are on bus 1) then the bus stops fill up again and the sequence starts again.

    But the war is likely to end or at least enter a ceasefire this month. If the 2 were intrinsically linked (welfare cuts and the war) then why not delay the welfare bill for a year until the situation is clearer. I said in the Ukraine thread that Governments often use the excuse of foreign wars to push through unpopular policies and this is a great example.

    I think the defence thought the case was so weak the jury wouldn’t convict. Remember it took years to come to trial.

    But the war didn’t start last week did it ? The welfare cuts go much further than anything proposed in 14 years of the conservative government. This wasn’t just dreamed up in the last few months.
