    Utd (A) FA Cup - Sun 24/1 - 17:00

So VAR did not bother drawing any lines for that goal?

That's what we get for playing a slow kid at CB.

Yep. It's laughable that people are still calling this Utd team "fucking garbage". They are not a great team, and yes, they've received some generous decisions this season. But they are very good at what they do and are clearly not shit. Especially not in front of goal.

    Utd (A) FA Cup - Sun 24/1 - 17:00

Thought we had a reasonable first half. We have caused them problems and they have caused us problems. Considering the fact that we are playing a 19 year old kid who is slow and Fabinho at CB, Utd were always going to cause us problems with their pace. So far, I think this is one of our better performances at Old Trafford in recent years. Some of the criticism I am reading here seems over the top to me. I reckon Mane coming on would help in the 2nd half. And switching Thiago with Gini could help stabilise our midfield better too.

More reason we shouldnt be playing him as a defensive midfielder. Put Gini back there. He doesn't have the creative ability and is very often not decisive enough in the final third. But he is very energetic and has done well as a 6 on more than a few occasions for us. Swap him with Thiago.

Unless Salah gets his arm yanked off or his neck broken, he isnt getting those freekicks.

Reckon it is a 433 with Jones playing on the left of the front 3.

Exactly. Some people just like to whinge either way.

    Liverpool 0 Burnley 1 (Jan 22 2021)

Ox is usually a bit better when he is played from the left of the front three. He has scored a few goals from that position, running onto his stronger right foot and smashing in. Playing him on the right flank is always a terrible idea though. I agree with Dave that Klopp should just have played Shaq there. Or at worst, should've switched Mane over to that position.

We have played some really brain dead football tonight.

Fully agree with the Thiago thing. We need him closer to their area where he can deliver those incisive throughpasses. Play Gini as a 6 and let Thiago go forward. He can beat a man, he can shoot from range and can do the unpredictable.

    Thiago Alcantara

Great points made in the first paragraph. Then it devolved to blaming the front 3's dilemma on an oft-repeated claim about Salah ball hogging and not wanting to pass the ball to the others, especially Mane. It is a false narrative created by "mental gymnastics". The simple facts are there. Salah has set up more goals and opportunities for Mane than the other way round. Also, Salah has 9 more assists than Mane under Klopp's reign despite playing for a shorter number of years. Salah is just the easiest target because a fair number of fans dont find him as likeable as the others. That's why his great assists record keeps being ignored. We are usually told Firmino is the one who makes the attacking system tick. Maybe if he had been in better form over the past year, numbers wouldn't have declined for the other two. So in summary, when proper context is applied, all 3 of them must share the blame.
  15. You are criticising Hendo's passing as safety first, however the stats show Fabinho does more of that at CB too. Both of them are playing out of position and Henderson especially is still new to that role. He has played less than 5 full games there, I think. So it makes sense for him to be a bit cautious with his passing for now. It's not like midfield where if you lose the ball, you have center backs behind you to mop up. Lose the ball as a center back and you're more likely to give a clear run at goal. So calling Hendo out for it seems quite harsh. Maybe when he plays more games at CB and gets comfortable in the position, he'll make riskier decisions.
  16. Ignoring the condescending tone of your first paragraph, there is truth in your second paragraph. However, because your 2nd paragraph is true, it does not make your assessment of Henderson's performance correct. He was one of our better players vs Man Utd. Considering we were playing the best away team in the league who almost always score twice on the road, we did well to keep a clean sheet. And Henderson contributed well to that alongside everyone else at the back.

    Man Utd (H) - Premier League -17/1/21 - 16:30

Apparently some are saying Salah has been worked out and is easy to nullify. Considering he is the league's top scorer with 13 goals in 17 games, and is almost on 20 goals for the season overall, I'm not sure the nullifying has worked out as well as the opponents think. He is just going through a bad patch of form. Happens to all great goalscorers at different stages in their careers. You can see he is overthinking in some situations. There were times when he could have hit early shots today but took extra touches and the chance became more difficult. Salah'll be fine soon enough. Firmino is the bigger worry for me because he has been in a prolonged run of poor form in front of goal for over a year now.

    Alisson Becker

Made a couple other great saves in situations which turned out to be offside. And apart from the vital saves which did count, he was at his commanding best today overall. He was also very quick out of his box when needed. Always feel that we stand a high chance of keeping clean sheets when he is there in top form.

    Go fuck yourselves FSG

That's a very daft tweet. If he read the tone of the words from Klopp a few days ago, he would have recognised that Klopp does want a center back. He has just been told that there is no money to get one at the moment. The manager is just reluctant to explicitly call FSG out for being tight cunts on this issue. Maybe us ending this game week in 5th place might finally panic the owners into some action on that front.

    Man Utd (H) - Premier League -17/1/21 - 16:30

Trent regularly takes 10 seconds or more figuring out who to throw the ball to. I don't think he ever does it for time wasting reasons. He just can't ever seem to make up his mind quickly enough when taking throw-ins. Doesnt make it any less annoying though.

    Man Utd (H) - Premier League -17/1/21 - 16:30

Some of the shots we took at goal today were absolutely laughable. So weak. I have seen backpasses with greater power than some of those shots. I think the Thiago shot is the only one which truly gave De Gea work to do. They all need to get more shooting drills done each day. Or inject more PEDs directly into their legs.

    Man Utd (H) - Premier League -17/1/21 - 16:30

Link up play between Trent and Salah has been awful for a long while now. So many times in the past few games when Salah is making an obvious run down the line, Trent ignores him to make a more difficult pass crossfield or a sideways pass into midfield. Seems we now have a player who even hates Salah more than Mane allegedly does. *tongue in cheek*

Ref taking the piss blowing up for halftime when we were on the attack and there were still 7 or 8 seconds left on the clock.

    Other football - 2020/21

Rodgers and Leicester motoring along again. Considering they've lost 5 times already, they've done well to climb to 2nd place. Helps them that they have only 2 draws though. Would be great if we dont add to our 6 draws tomorrow. 3 points, nice and easy please.

    Man Utd (H) - Premier League -17/1/21 - 16:30

True. And for all the talk about our attack, we still have the highest number of goals in the league this season. 37 in 17, and we're the only team with an average of more than 2 goals per game. True, we could do with our forwards being a bit more clinical but we have to simply accept they're never going to score with every attempt. We need some goals from midfield and a couple from defenders to further supplement during the lean spells. Van Dijk is usually good for 5 or 6 goals, so I think we are missing that too.
