  1. Selective outrage in action. A few footballers and coaches leave the UK for Saudi Arabia to go get that "filthy oil money". Loads here and many more all over social media react strongly against it. Meanwhile, the UK govt has been taking billions of pounds of that "filthy oil money", selling weapons to Saudi Arabia which is then used to bomb tiny Yemen. Barely a squeak about that on here or on social media. I guess Yemen isn't fashionable enough for many to get outraged about.
  2. Also wonder what the people of Yemen think of being bombed by Saudi missiles & weaponry sold by the UK to the Saudis for billions of pounds. Some money is much dirtier than other money. True. So I guess the billions of pounds regularly accepted by the UK from the Saudis should be considered one of the dirtiest around. Not much is ever said about that by many of those people on a moral crusade though. Selective outrage at its finest.
  3. And look at Gary Neville being a dickhead trying to get a final word in about "LFC TV" as the camera cut away.
  4. He looked a bit better when Nunez came on and they managed to combine well a couple times. True, he's had a relatively slow start. And he's been moved all over the place. Think he has played right wing, left wing and through the middle. He's obviously nervous, rushing shots and eager to impress. Far too early to write him off based on all the mitigating factors. Hasnt even played 5 full games yet ffs. If we are going to use him as our future version of Bobby, we should be prepared to give him the same amount of time Bobby took to master that role.
  5. "Liverpool, whose contracts are heavily incentivised, paid out 62 percent of their overall revenue in wages, to the tune of £368.5 million. Only five clubs in the Deloitte Money League top 20 paid a lower percentage of wages against their revenue. Those clubs are Tottenham (47%), West Ham (53%), Bayern Munich (53%), Man City (57%) and Arsenal (58%)" The club is very good financial health. Generating great amounts of revenue, basically 2nd on the rich list (because we can dismiss the financial dopers at Man City). It's not unreasonable at all for our fans to ask why more money can't go towards transfers when needed.
  6. And this is just TV money which excludes all the other revenue we generate through sponsorship, kit sales, ticket sales, prize money etc. If we are struggling to pay for new signings on good wages now, imagine when we become shite and are finishing midtable, devoid of CL money.
  7. Great article, Dave. An enjoyable read under the circumstances. What makes it more depressing is the fact that we've waited for another season in which Man City's level drops off so we could win the title with relative ease again. When that is happening now, it's fucking Arsenal taking advantage of it and not us. And even worse, Man Utd and newly minted Newcastle have also sneaked into the league title conversation. Tiny bit of consolation is the fact that Everton might genuinely go down this season. But we can't even fully enjoy that as much at the moment because we are almost as crap as they are.
  8. Yep. While we still have those who disrespect him by mentioning his name and Maguire's in the same breath, there are many of us who know he is good enough in a time of need. In anticipation, I'll be bumping up my Nat Phillips thread shortly.
  9. It's true that we've played poorly gor large parts of the season. Tactics, selections and transfer decisions haven't been great. But no one can tell me that having 21 players injured before the halfway point of the season isn't also a crucial factor in all of it. 21!!
  10. Good match report, Dave. Not much whinging or extreme negativity. You offer more balance than most out there and I appreciate that. I do think there was a slight nudge on Konate but I agree it wasnt enough to warrant a disallowed goal. You also rightly say this is what we should expect this season. Two steps forward one step back. I'm usually optimistic but I'm not sure we make top 4 this time. The injuries which have been a factor all season just dont seem to be letting up.
  11. Just a reminder stats show that Klopp over the past few years is top or very near the top regarding goalscoring subs. Many people never recognise this and always say he is bad at subs. Of course he doesn't get every sub right, no manager does. But he gets more right than virtually every manager.
  12. I doubt he would ever have a quiet game for Liverpool. He is always involved, always in with a chance of scoring or setting one up. We do need him to get more composed and consistently produce better finesse in front of goal. Hopefully by next season, he adds those. He can throw in a bite or two to complete the Suarez trajectory.
  13. You should know by now that I would definitely be pointing out the double standards of the western media when the 2026 world cup rolls up. I was simply highlighting the fact that Messi was getting a free pass in most places when criticism was being directed at FIFA and Qatar for "forcing him" to wear a bisht. They are turning blind eyes to him taking lots of Saudi money, same way they mostly do when the UK and USA receive billions of dollars from the Saudis.
  14. I understand we are in the era of selective outrage. So while we are here being outraged by FIFA & Qatar, let's not forget Messi is taking 30m a year to promote Saudi Arabia, a country which also has human rights issues. He might have been forced to wear a bisht at the trophy lifting ceremony but no one is forcing him to take Saudi money. By the way, Saudi Arabia are also contesting against Argentina to host a world cup in 2030. Really lovely that he is enabling a country against his own in their bid to host the world cup.
  15. I just want everyone to know that I gave a lot of reps to Jurgen Knows throughout this thread. He obviously paid me a lot of money and sent over a few camels. Otherwise he wouldn't have received any form of encouragement from me for trying to bring up a balanced view addressing the moral superiority and double standards many of us exhibit regarding the issues he raised.
  16. Yeah, they have been decent owners. But it's clear they could and should have done a bit more. For example, coming into this January they had 273m avaliable for transfers in compliance with Premier League FFP limits. University of Liverpool did an in-depth study for each club and arrived at the figures showed below. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10108067/amp/How-Premier-League-club-spend-transfers-FFP-rules.html
  17. A study from University of Liverpool had concluded that earlier this year Liverpool had 273m available for transfers without breaching Premier League FFP limits. In essence according to Premier League FFP rules, FSG could also have legally overspent on transfers up to a limit of 105m in losses over the past 3 years. And covering such losses with their personal money is deemed acceptable. So when people say FSG could spend more from their pockets to fund transfers, it is legitimately allowed and not considered cheating. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10108067/amp/How-Premier-League-club-spend-transfers-FFP-rules.html
  18. True, City especially can afford to make more expensive mistakes because they're gaming the system with inflated commercial deals. I do have to point out that Premier League club owners are allowed to cover losses ranging 15m - 105m. The Premier League's version of FFP is quite lenient in comparison to UEFA's criteria in that regard. In essence, it isn't cheating if FSG had overspent on transfers in the past 3 seasons and then covered the losses (as long as Liverpool didn't exceed the 105m loss limit set by the Premier League). That's why people legitimately say "FSG can spend some transfer money from their own pockets". It's not cheating if they do.
  19. Yeah, great feat. Although Suarez did score more than him after the same number of games played in 2013/14 season. 19 league goals in 12 appearances. I reckon Suarez had more assists during that period too. So yeah, Haaland is no Suarez. He would have to throw in a bite or two to reach that level.
  20. Correct about Curtis Jones. Do we even know what is wrong with him this time?
  21. What do they call the opposite of flat track bullying?
  22. They have been linking well since the start of the season though. Salah and Nunez were directly involved in goals for each other during the first league game, away at Fulham. And it was fairly clear at that point that they had an understanding of each other. There have been more examples of their link up play since that time but people tend to forget because those didn't lead directly to goals.
