  1. I find it hard to see what all the fuss was about in the first place to be honest. Like you say, he has no pace, and he's never had pace, but in the modern game pace is essential in an attacker, so why was he ever lauded as an exciting attacker? Ok, but what about as a 10? Well, I don't consider him to have quick feet either, or a killer pass, or a fruity skills, or strength to hold it up, so it doesn't look like he's a 10 either. But yes he's a good lad and works hard, although his he's not even intuitively good at closing down or positioning. It's a head-scratcher really.
  2. I'm not going to throw anyone under the bus for us being top of the league still, but Elliott is a weird fish in terms of playing style and if I was him I'd be nervous about a new manager coming in this summer. Him and Carvalho is probably £50m combined sale value, and our academy is producing enough homegrown for squad depth now, I think he's getting sold. For context, yes he's 20, but he's also 8 appearances short of 100 for the club. The highlight reel is niche.
  3. Re-read what you wrote and ask yourself why WE should crawl over broken glass and resort to self-loathing just to validate the accomplishments of sports history's worst cheaters. Losing to City isn't a source of shame. It's probable. It's likely. It's logical. Stop flogging us to death for 'failing' to keep them at bay through fair means.
  4. Suggest some of you go take a walk and listen to some Curtis Stigers. It's a shame we can't meet Arsenal again this season, but that's because they've been knocked out of both domestic cups. Let them have their minute in the sun.
  5. It'll be painted as a disaster by the London sports media but the reality is that Nunez and Szoboszlai's injuries were a step too far for us after we've pushed the limit with these players in December and January. We also got heavy knocks against Chelsea, and a few today, so even the fit ones like Jota and MacAllister are limping now. Thankfully we can regroup the players back in Liverpool now for the next 13 days, only a home game v Burnley in that period, and we can give some rest to the likes of Gomez, Macca, Jones, Nunez, Jota, Van Dijk, and Konate can't play until Brentford on the 17th. We can use Burnley to get more minutes into Robbo, Thiago, Trent, Elliott, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and maybe Tsimikas, and we welcome back Endo and Salah. City are our concern, Arsenal are not.
  6. Telly off. Fucking nonsense from Alisson now. Just smile boys, these aren't a serious team, and this is a game too far for us with a half fit squad.
  7. We act like we've never played against a quick winger before. It's definitely a system killer for us, like Vinicious Jr enjoys playing against us. In future I'd be tempted to try 3 at the back against it.
  8. We could lose to Arsenal today and the title would still come down to us and City, especially that game on 12 March. These are Arsenal's remaining league fixtures: West Ham A Burnley A Newcastle H Sheff Utd A Brentford H Chelsea H City A Luton H Brighton A Villa H Wolves A Spurs A Bournemouth H United A Everton H
  9. He can't be at a better club to help him through this. Tomorrow's for you lad.
  10. I think Klopp also hands over an unfinished jigsaw, but he's done all the sides and the foreground, really he's left 100 pieces of blue sky to finish. The forward line coupe be ripped out and replaced in my view, but everything else can remain in place, perhaps an extra midfielder. I'm not saying our forwards are shit, but there's scope for a new manager to stamp their own authority on the team with those positions. Jota is class, I'd keep him, but could also understand if a new manager felt his injuries were a risk and we could get close to £100m for him. Not advocating doing it either, but every new manager will look at it.
  11. It's games like today where I look forward to De Zerbi managing us. He knows the value of pace and agility in the final third, players capable of destroying a defender 1 on 1. Mitoma a prime example, but he's also brought in Fati, Adingra, and Buonanotte. Great pace and movement in small spaces. Whereas Nunez needs a runway to get up to speed, and he can't change direction. And Gakpo has no pace, even Diaz is a big lad, none of them are agile like a Messi, or Silva, or Saka etc.
  12. We don't ALL want Xabi, but that'll be the media narrative. 2 years ago Gerrard was a cert.
  13. I'm surprised Xabi is the front runner for the job, everything seems to point towards De Zerbi. I don't think there's anything like Klopp out there right now, but if I had to choose someone else it's be De Zerbi. There's some fascinating vids in YT about his innovations in coaching, and his devotion to football. £10m release clause currently in his contract, He may not be what we want ultimately, we don't know, but in the meantime he'd have us playing much the same as Klopp, high intensity without the ball, always wanting the ball, high defensive line, attacking. Also he'd open up the possibility of us signing Estupinan or João Pedro.
  14. As for names, I'll throw a couple in based on their age and win percentage: Roger Schmidt Arne Slot Marco Rose Ruben Amorim Rob De Zerbi I don't see how we talk about Xabi based on half a season of management. It's fucking nuts. And if he's not ready then we derail his career before it's even really started. I also want a manager over 6'2". I think a lot of Klopp's aura was rigged with his size and presence. I want a manager to stand eye to eye with the centre backs, I literally want some players physically 'looking up' to him when he speaks. I think Xabi is too clean cut and he doesn't seem to smile a lot. Klopp lit up a room, whereas I think Xabi isn't experienced enough yet to shrug off the massive job on his hands. He'll be nervous.
  15. I don't know if we need another Klopp, or if the focus will now be on establishing a Klopp like figure as director of football. I think there will be conversations had around the whole structure now, not least because FSG now recognise that losing him is bringing about an existential crisis for us this summer and a staff and maybe a player exodus. We need to recognise that for the problem it is, and see if we can avoid repeating it everytime we get a new manager. If our DoF has equal Messiah status, then we can make changing future managers a less painful process.
  16. We've also become accutsomed to him giving youth team players a go, I'd hate to lose that, but I think you only get that confidence from a senior manager.
  17. Do you not think that Klopp might look at Barca in 12 months? I think he's more likely there than Madrid. Xavi has credit in the bank to keep him there a while
  18. What would people say to Guardiola if his agent expressed interest?
  19. I'd love to put my weight behind Xabi but fuck me it's premature. Surely a big part of being a top manager is how you operate under pressure, and we haven't seen him get to the vinegar strokes yet. I'd have Emery on the list, the rest is up for grabs for the rest of the season, but I've got the sneaking suspicion that we've already made approaches for someone.
  20. Just a thought on the timing, I'm wondering if we might make a last minute player purchase for the incoming manager. Just the way Klopp answered the question abou the timing, he said it was with regard to 'the things the club needs to do'. Just crossed my mind that he does the interview now, not next week, when the window closes.
