  1. Reading tomorrow's papers on line, I get the impression the Premier League will decide to suspend itself from and including Saturday's games. I dont think they'll want a couple of teams falling 2 or 3 games behind the schedule as currently city, sheff utd, arsenal and villa are already a game behind.
  2. Professor Keith Neal Emeritus Professor in the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, University of Nottingham The plans are sensible. It's very easy to say more needs to be done, but there is little evidence to make any decision. If people who might have coronavirus self-isolate based on fever and cough then this should limit the spread of the virus. What we know is that people are most infectious during the first week of symptoms. Italy's lockdown is not the lockdown used in Wuhan – Italians are still going out and mixing. We need to follow what happens there to inform our decision-making for the next week or two. It will be interesting to see how long the Italian population will accept the limited lockdown. They may have to do so for many months and people will get tired and not cooperate. Enforcement will not be possible as in China and Singapore. Cancelling school trips and cruises will have virtually no impact on the functioning of society. Closing schools, however, has consequences. It might make the ability to manage the epidemic worse, with a reduction in health and social care workers who have to look after children and an increase in grandparents delivering childcare. At sporting events you are in close contact with eight people – and three of these are behind you so will be difficult to infect. If you close a ground fans may watch in a pub or with friends and more close contact might occur.
  3. Rubbish in, rubbish out. City will hack it so we lose a 25 point lead and they win the title by 1 point again!
  4. Think a few are whipping up a frenzy over the league especially since the Government has said carry on. UK Chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said cancelling sporting events is not a "major way to tackle this epidemic". "Of course there is a risk," he said. "But on average one person infects two or three others. "You therefore have a very low probability of infecting a large number of people in a stadium, or a rather higher probability of infecting people very close to you, and that means most of the transmission tends to takes place with friends and colleagues in close environments, not in the big environments. "It is true that any cancellations of things can have some effect (but) if you then get a displacement activity, when everyone congregates somewhere else, you may have perversely an increased risk, particularly in an indoors environment. "So it doesn't mean you should at some point make the decision for the resilience point that has been discussed, but this is not a major way to tackle this epidemic." Relax, the season isnt getting voided. At worst it will be suspended.
  5. There's nothing in the PL rulebook about season suspension or curtailment. The view is it would need an exceptional event and in such circumstances, saying who'd be relegated, champions etc is not important. Personally I dont think the season will be curtailed. At worst, it will be suspended and re started.
  6. Except they didnt express their freedom. They were put in lock down and it didnt stop one incidence of the virus. Like I said, the murder rate in NYC is likely higher than the virus yet the city isnt in lock down due to that.
  7. Really? I bet the murder rate in NYC is higher than this virus yet the Mayor has just declared a state of emergency. If you dont want to go to sporting events, stay away. Im happy to still turn up at Anfield if the games on.
  8. How's that going to work out for them if the season's going to be null and void? Or do the cretins think they're going to be exempt and every body else's season's just going to be fucked off?
  9. Jesus, people arent serious are they? Id love Lonergan to get a League Title medal but putting him or Kelleher in against the shite for this game is a step too far. Adrian has to play.
  10. Doubt it. If we're playing Monday night no way I want us playing Palace on the Wednesday or Thursday night. Teams still need time to prepare, travel etc.
  11. Gov Chief scientific guy just said they expect the number of cases to peak in 12 to 14 weeks. If events get postponed, it will not be for a couple of weeks, it will be 3 to 4 months. And that surely puts a different complexion on the situation?
  12. Anyone know why Naby didnt make the squad for last night? The story from Guinea FA about the death of his cousin in the bus crash was apparently incorrect and although injured, survived.
  13. Ederson made 2 bigger howlers against the mancs yet hasnt got half the stick our keepers get.
  14. The feeling I get is if any football competition is postponed long term, whether that be The PL, Serie A, UEFA club and international football, it's not going to be for a few weeks and the next season will not start as normal. If football is postponed then it's very likely next season is written off as well because the signs are this is the beginning not the end.
  15. There was talk of him leaving at the end of the season in search of more regular game time and us bringing that young Turkish lad in. Kelleher doesnt look a capable deputy for Alisson in my opinion.
  16. I thought the ref was very good overall. Maybe a questionable foul just outside their box before their first goal(?). On the whole, he wasnt having any of their shithousery and to be fair to Atletico, they didnt resort to much. Even Costa was a bit subdued.
  17. I honestly dont think you'd find a majority of fans at 14 PL clubs would want the season voided to stop us.
  18. Bear in mind although papers and fans of city, united and everton are running with this null and void bullshit, it's not just Liverpool it would affect. So city want to win the CL to stick it to UEFA over their ban, how's that going to work if the CL is abandoned? United lose their chance of qualifying for next season's CL via the Europa league or PL? Yeah, some of their fans might take that to stop us being Champions but the club itself? What about teams in the Championship, League One and Two, the National League all on the verge of promotion? Sorry, lads, it's just hard luck but your season counts for nought? And like Ive said before, are they stopping people going to the shops, work or the pub? I just think its hyped up scaremongering.
  19. You see, this is where all this behind closed doors stuff falls down to me. Dont let people in grounds but let them all still go the pub where they'll be as much interaction with others as they would in the ground. But I really, really hope we can sneak this game. The big worry is now Adrian and how he reacts as everton are sure to target him which will make van Dijk's partner feel a bit easier I guess.
  20. Yep, a sense of realism. Was frustrated with the lad last night every bit as much as I was with Karius. But as you say, in the main he's been an able deputy for Alisson. One thing Ive noticed about him though is he doesnt get much distance when he dives. Also, why do keepers persist doing this 'star' shape type save when the striker isnt very close to them? I noticed Adrian did this for the 2nd or 3rd goal when he should be going full length.
  21. What, you mean for Atletico's 2nd in the 107th minute of the game, a gassed Henderson playing for the first time in 4 games while Milner had only been on since the 82nd minute was still full of beans? Give yer head a wobble.
  22. Fair enough mate, Im just trying to have a debate with you about the footie. Im off to bedski so I'll let you crack on.
  23. That's because by the time the FA Cup starts in January, clubs are either deep into fighting relegation, getting stuck in the title race and European places. And with the exception of European places, it's the exact same reason clubs in all leagues go with changed teams. The same as it ever was. Managers have to juggle their resources no matter how you cut it. But they still put a team out they think is capable of winning.
