If you are putting a limit on the managers age and moving in the last 20 years to England then it is a sample size of what - 2?

Why no Koeman on the list? He has won silverware at a number of teams - heck he was PL manager of the Month a few times I remember.

Bosz is a strange one - Dortmund paid a record fee to bring him in and sacked him in 6 months. He did get Leverkusen into the CL and went back to Holland and beat out our boy Slot in the cup last season I think.

The short answer for me is there are far more failures than success' - by about tenfold so you could easily make a list of any nationality.

    English managers especially.

If Edwards and Hughes get this one wrong and the next manager is jibbed then they should follow him out of the door. You want to be bold and brave that's fine if you believe in your data but if it’s wrong you can pay the same price as the man you employed. The Guru status of Edwards doesn't sit with me, there's only so many times I can hear "but Klopp wanted Brandt" Klopp was successful before Edwards and undoubtedly will be after. Edwards has as much to prove as Slot will.

There’s loads of reasons a manager can fail, doesn’t mean they weren’t the best option at the time.

You can’t deny our signings have got worse since Edwards left.

If we're looking at who is available and who has the best mix of having won stuff in multiple places while also not being that old, it's Tuchel. He is the most qualified candidate now. But he's one of those I can't picture being Liverpool manager.

Is that because he constantly whinges about transfers and then brings in players like Eric Dier when he gets his way?

  4. Ornstein is usually on the money with this stuff and has said De Zerbi is very unlikely.

I'm really concerned that it could be Howe. Didn't mind him before he went to Newcastle but he has been a nasty little weasel the whole time he's been there and has gone from playing decent football at Bournemouth to snidey shithouse anti-football at Newcastle.

But the real issue I have with him is the "joint management partnership" he has with that wanker Jason Tindall. In terms of personality Tindall is the polar opposite of anyone we should be considering working at Liverpool FC in any capacity. I had hoped that the "no dickheads" rule was bought into by Edwards as much as Klopp but if we're considering Howe & Tindall then it hasn't been, sadly.

Took a club on its arse to the title in no time in a one horse league and got them deep into Europe leaving them set up for a final when he left and that was his first job in management.

Swear to god some our fans would put fucking Hodgson back in before even considering him for it.

Was driven out of villa by a gormless fan base helped by a rabid media when others like Arteta had similar runs of bad form with far better teams but got the time to correct them. Emery stunk the place out at arsenal and everyone despised him yet there’s callings for him to come here.

He did a terrible job at Villa and they got noticeably even worse when his assistant left. He's managing in Saudi for a reason and it's not just the money.

The Athletic did something a while back looking at some data of who they thought was similar to klopp in style and stats and Sebastian Hoeness was one of the top results. He is doing a great job with Stuttgart. He took over in April with them in the bottom place and got them up into the relelgation playoff places(gaining 13pts from 8 games) and kept them up, he has now turned them into a near certain Champions League spot and is 3pts behind Bayern. 63% win rate with a relegation candidate last year. It looks like he is staying at Stuttgart but maybe one to keep a eye on

Have mentioned him a few times, he's doing really well with Stuttgart.

But the family connection with Bayern probably means he's going there.

Leaving your leading goalscorer out, if that's true, in the home straight for me is madness. Over thinking. Salah is in the Ronaldo type camp, he doesn't need resting. Even Kane plays almost every game. Fernandes, almost every fucking Arsenal player.

    He’s been shit recently though.

  8. From what I’ve read on him Slot seems like a really good coach at Eredivisie level. I have no idea whether that means he’d be a good coach in the Premier League. I doubt anyone could say for sure, same for Amorim.

He’s quite similar to Amorim in some respects. He won the league with Feyenoord, who are basically the third club in the Netherlands, and his players absolutely love him. But he has won fewer trophies than Amorim, played less European football, and the Eredivisie is an even worse standard than the Primeira Liga.

I haven’t had such low expectation before a game for ages. Years. Trent will get raped on the left wing and our players will look like they’ve just woken up. Klopp will do his sarcastic ‘ok then’ face, Gary Neville will make his Ooooh noise and we will all call each other names.

Have you got next week’s lottery numbers as well please mate

Maybe Nagelsmann has heard who we’ve already decided or agreed a deal with and he isn’t it.

Coincidentally, I was also wondering what prospective coaches would be thinking about our recent form, if we haven’t already tied someone down of course.

Sporting probably did better over the two legs against Atalanta than we did. On about a tenth of the budget.

When we went three at the back, I hoped at least we would not waste anymore time passing back and to the side and instead just keeping launching it forward first time at our tall lads, with Jota picking up scraps.

Nope, three at the back to show our efficiency in passing it back and to the side.

10-15mins of long ball tactics may not have been pretty but it may have been pretty effective.

I wanted to see that as well but Atalanta would likely have lapped that up. They clearly practice the full alehouse / Allardyce / LUMP IT UP TO SARGE tactic with Scamacca as the focal point, their defenders are probably well used to it.

Needed something else last night though. Anything other than watching Alisson and Mac Allister slowly passing it to each other and getting nowhere.

Do you think a single Atalanta fan gives a fuck? They've just knocked out a vastly stronger team than themselves.

If they played that way against Frosinone you'd have a point but they don't. That's the sign of a good manager.

If they suddenly play free flowing pass and move sexy football against Serie A’s smaller teams then fair play to them, I’d find it hard to believe though. Can’t say I’ve watched Atalanta vs Frosinone recently. Or ever.

And of course Atalanta fans won’t give a fuck. Doesn’t mean he’s a good manager just for knocking us out, I’d say us playing like absolute dickheads in the first leg had more to do with the outcome of the tie than anything else. He had them well drilled and all, not saying he did a shit job or anything, but it’s a clearly limited style of play that doesn’t tend to do well at bigger clubs. Hence him lasting eight games the one time he actually managed one!

Ha, what? Just knocked us out of Europe and their whole fucking squad cost about the same as Nunez and Szoboszlai.

Utterly bizarre take. They won the first leg three nil, why would they take any chances tonight?

Didn’t really see too many differences in style tonight from the first leg or the last time we played them. Fair play if that’s what you want to watch, I’m not disputing it can be effective, but the phrase “eye aids” has seldom felt more appropriate.
