  1. Games behind closed doors have completely stripped the team of intensity. For me this is the single biggest reason for the malaise we are in currently. I can't see us winning the league this year barring a huge turn around in form, but we should have the quality to make Top 4 and then hopefully get back to normality next year with supporters back in the grounds.
  2. The study for the Oxford vaccine showed greater efficacy if the second dose was given 12 weeks after the first, so for that vaccine the Government strategy fits the data. There is however no such data to support this strategy for the Pfizer vaccine.
  3. Agree totally about Salah and Firmino. The two of them are so out of form it's unbelievable. The fact that fat Luke Shaw had Salah in his pocket all day, to the extent that Mo shit out of taking him on in the box in the second half speaks volumes. As for Firmino, my foot nearly when through the TV when he didn't pass the ball to Robbo. That kind of shit is practically unforgiveable.
  4. We need crowds back asap. This team thrives on atmosphere and intensity and games behind closed doors have neither.
  5. Might stick a couple of quid on Villa to nick this
  6. Zero intensity and zero aggression. This is the Villa kids easiest game of the season.
  7. The Munich Beer Hall Putsch comes to mind. This.
  8. The whole fucking team have forgotten how to shoot!
  9. Some screenshots from the Oxford study (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)32661-1/full text)
  10. If you combine the data from the Oxford studies carried out in Brazil with the UK study, the vaccine efficiency for 1 dose is 64.1%, meaning those vaccinated were almost 3 times less likely to develop symptomatic covid more than 21 days after vaccination than the placebo group.
  11. Just to follow up and clarify what I wrote last night as it is an oversimplification. The published results of the Oxford vaccine trials showed that most of the subjects in the UK arm of the trial were given the second dose more than 12 weeks after the first. It also reports that out of 3060 people who received the first dose of the vaccine in the UK, 28 developed symptomatic covid-19 more than 21 days after vaccination. This compares to the control placebo group where 62 out of 3064 developed covid, giving a vaccine efficiency of 55.5%. This means that those people who were vaccinated with 1 dose were over 2 times less likely to develop symptomatic covid than those on the placebo, regardless of the second dose. The Pfizer study reports a similar vaccine efficiency (52%) for the time period between the first and second doses.
  12. I think this is a interesting point and it seems to me that people are somewhat confused about what is meant when vaccine efficiency is reported. If the Pfizer or Oxford vaccine shows 60% efficiency after 1 dose, it doesn't mean that is the level of protection you get from the vaccine, it means that is the chance of you being protected. The results of the Oxford trials showed that for every 100 people vaccinated with 1 dose and then exposed to the virus, 60 were immune to infection and 40 were not. This means that the levels of protection against infection given by 1 dose of the vaccine were 100% for 60/100 people and 0% for 40/100. In addition, one of the key stats in that trial was that none of the 40% who were infected after 1 dose went on to develop serious illness, giving rise to the claim of 100% protection against becoming seriously ill even if you are infected. I think this is the reasoning behind the Government's idea to delay the 2nd dose in order to administer the first dose to as many people as possible as quickly as possible, as the results of the trial suggest that 1 dose will be enough to stop people dying or needing hospital treatment. As loathe as I am to agree with anything this government says or does, I think it's probably the right approach at this moment in time.
  13. I realise that this is old news but Mourinho is such a fucking wanker!
  14. No, there is no chance RNA will hang around for months. I don't think it will even last days, and certainly not outside the protection of a cell or intact virus particle. RNases (enzymes that degrade RNA) are very tough and very active, and RNA itself is also extremely labile (in comparison to DNA), which is why the Pfizer vaccine has to be stored at -80oC. In terms of increasing the cycle number, there comes a point in PCR where the reaction becomes self-fulfilling, and you get what looks like amplification and therefore a positive result. We call these amplification products primer-dimers. This type of result should be easy to spot but I suppose some people may be fooled into thinking it's a real result.
  15. The PCR test is to show if someone has live virus or not. It does not presume infectiousness nor can it be used to determine this on its own. This is the second tweet in that thread: "The green folks were likely not infective and the yellows may not have been (There is no way this can be determined by Ct value alone). The higher the Ct score, the lower the viral load (this could be somewhat true but it depends on the quality and consistency of the swabs and the reaction controls used) - the person is “less sick” (debatable) or has remnant viral rna which can be detected for months (absolutely fucking not) while infectivity lasts maybe a week." My comments in bold. Edit: Also the Ct value will be affected by the stage of infection you are in when the test is taken. Someone testing positive with a 'high' Ct value one day may well test positive with a 'low' Ct value the next day. Trying to link infectiousness (or even illness) to a Ct PCR test, and therefore saying to someone you are not infectious (or not likely to get ill) is not only ridiculous, it's dangerous.
  16. Still can't get over how that Sheff Utd defender just let Vardy run clear instead of bringing him down and taking the red card for the team. Should be a two week fine minimum.
  17. She might be a vacuous annoying bint but no way is Amanda Holden a 'hate shag'! Edit, I agree with Tony, The Grimleys and Miss Titley were boss.
  18. If immunity exists then you will be 'immune' to it as a result of previous infection. The level of immunity you have (complete protection/protection against serious complications etc) is a different question, however vaccines are designed to induce a higher immune response than the natural infection.
  19. It was a regular occurence for me and my brother to be roped in to give my Dad's a car a push start.
  20. Apparently, we would go back to complete normality with no covid restrictions whatsoever.
