  1. Buffon rejected a new deal with PSG and is free. Anyone think we should get him in to be backup? He wants to win the Champions League and we're as good a bet as any club to possibly fulfill this. He was crap at PSG but we have a clear #1 keeper unlike what the situation was at PSG and so the hierarchy would already be known. I would think about it.
  2. I think there's been an enlightenment in the past few years regarding attackers given what Klopp has done with Firmino and favouring a more fluid system with 3 attackers rather than 1 centre forward. But there was a time when grocks like Wickham were in style and players of that profile appealed to people. He didn't work out, but I wouldn't blame people for once being excited about a young English centre forward who had quite a bit of hype around him at the time.
  3. I'm not commenting on whether we should do it. I don't know, frankly. I think what de Ligt has shown at his age is remarkable and 70m or so is not a bad investment, but is he that good? It's hard to say, Imo because he's only 19. He's still got lots to learn at a position that is not easy for a young player. What I'm saying is that, from what I believe to know about Klopp, he would not relegate Gomez or Matip to the bench after what they've shown. I just don't think we'll buy him. We're meant to offer Matip a new contract, does it really sound to you that CB is a priority?
  4. Even if we sell Lovren, buying de Ligt would relegate one of Gomez or Matip to 4th choice and it's not realistic they would accept this or that we would want to do that given what both of them have shown.
  5. We're selling Gomez or Matip if de Ligt is signed. There's no other realistic outcome, which is why we won't sign him as Gomez has signed a new deal and Matip is supposed to follow. We may currently rotate Matip and Gomez but if they're both firmly behind de Ligt and van Dijk there's no reason for them to stay here. It's a rumour that makes no sense.
  6. Not seen him too often but the impression I get from Lozano is that he's a bit of a pace merchant with not all that much ability. Does he have more to his game?
  7. The Supercup is a big honour. Couldn't care less about the Community Shield.
  8. James is soft and is in many ways blowing his potential. Madrid don't want him and neither do Bayern and they could have signed him for only 40m. That says something is wrong with him. We can do better. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-make-shock-enquiry-cardiff-16379079 We're interested in Etheridge, apparently.
  9. Nah Everton will slap the money on the table for him and leave PSV so shell shocked by their riches that they'll totally ignore our bid. Plus, with the Brands connection we would't stand a chance.
  10. The comments about our defensive performance were fair enough at the time. Not fair was calling Klopp a cheerleader and insinuating he was a shite manager in a horrendously written "article" with a sarcastic tone that was littered with "excessive!!!!! "punctuation" and quotation" marks."
  11. He doubled down on it too for a while after. Bad look for this site.
  12. Ferland Mendy to Real Madrid for 50m will happen. Eintracht have also confirmed that Jovic is going there and they are sure to sign Hazard.
  13. I think we need one more top player in the profile of Firmino or Salah and Mané but I have a feeling we won't think it will be worth the big fee. I don't think we need a #10 type anymore unless that player can also play striker. The way we play with 3 workhorses in the middle and the 3 forwards is so effective defensively and offensively. We just need to add a similar player to what we already have in attack to effectively rotate.
  14. I also rewatched it. I don't think there is a game since Klopp joined where we have been more pragmatic, but we did it in Klopp's way. We defended in kind of a mid-block with some really effective pressing instead of the usual low block teams often go for. In the first half, Sissoko and Winks were picking up the ball just in front of their box and were totally separated from the forwards. It was class. We totally stopped them from playing until about minute 80 where they started finding Son in behind and were pumping the long balls forward. The only thing is we were really sloppy with the ball, almost comically so. But in the end, it was a conservative, old-school final's performance, one that I would have never thought I'd see under someone like Klopp who is said to be so dogmatic. We finished with 35% possession!
  15. You almost wish they were somewhat good so they'd be a bit less bitter. Almost.
  16. His general play isn't great, which is why he'll never be starting quality, but he scores goals. That's undeniable. The numbers say so. He scores at a really good rate per minute he's on the pitch. Doesn't mean we shouldn't buy another front three player, we should, but there's always going to be a place for what he brings. Like I said though, it's not our decision, it's his, because now there's no doubt we'd want to keep him as backup. It's whether he's fine with being a backup at a top club or wants to go somewhere smaller where he can play almost every week.
  17. orly Make of THAT what you will This guy on GOT still has a Karius avatar. He been living under a rock?
  18. His minutes per goal record has always been good. He's good enough to be an option off the bench even for a club that has reached the heights we have. In fact, he's pretty much the perfect attacking sub because he's not shy to go for goal and you can play him on the wing or put him up front. And his attitude has been as good as it gets. It's just a question of whether he's happy with that or if he wants more playing time somewhere else. His choice.
  19. Welcome. In all seriousness, he is not coming but there may not be a more perfect player for us style wise. If we got him we would win the league.
  20. They should sell him. I don't think they're better without him per se, but they're a well-run club and could build an immense squad with the ridiculous money they would get for him.
  21. Van Dijk too expensive. Between Ancelotti and Klopp in the beginning I had doubts whether we had made the right choice if the rumours of our interest for the former had been true.
  22. His character arc has been astounding.
