Liverpool Vs Brentford - Saturday 6 May at 17.30

At least Frank comported himself well in the post match interviews, as the journos repeatedly tried to get him to find something wrong with our goal; shouldn’t there have been a free kick? Frank just dismissed it, saying the only thing wrong was their own defending of the situation. Certainly a better response than Marco Silva’s incessant whining about our pen against Fulham… -

Thought we looked good the first half hour, but Taylor let Brentford into the game by allowing them to stop any flow we had by spending ages on every free kick or throw in. Pretty certain they spent more time on each dead ball than Allison, who got a yellow by spending some 20 seconds once. I don’t think we can blame our midfield for this one, just have to accept that Brentford is a pain in the ass to play against, especially when they have a twelfth man, as they did today. -

These are more Stoke than Stoke. And Taylor more Webb than Webb. -

While he’s not played particularly bad, the time Fabinho needs, on and off the ball, to control even the simplest passes, is beginning to vex me severely. -

Still think you went a bit soft on Tierney. I would happily pay twice the account fee if Dave hired an investigative journalist to have a dig in his private life to prove some of Tierney’s no doubt legion piccadillos. -
I’ve got your six can get to fuck.

«Makes Pogba look like James Milner», is as damning a description as they come… -
Can’t wait for Tielemans to retire, so I don’t have to feel the mild panic of us being linked with him every window.

Well, that was a laugh and a half… Would be good to see Diaz on the pitch at the same time as Darwin, but that’s not gonna happen, is it, seeing as they ostensibly play in the same position, or at least seek similar spaces? I have a probably irrational suspicion that if anyone were to have some sort of inherent understanding with Darwin, it is Diaz, but we’ll probably need a change in formation for that to take effect. -
Ether the ref i Tottenham-Brighton is really inept, together with his var-team (yeah, I know), or the fix is in. Brighton cheated out of at least one goal and a penalty.

Wayne Rooney is about two months older than James Milner.

I am still irrationally upset by Fabinho’s yellow. Tierney should really not be allowed to ref our games, as there is clearly bad blood between him and Klopp. («I don’t have a problem with refs, only you»).

I’d keep Firmino. If for nothing else, than to use him in a Milner-like role in attack. That is, as a by all accounts good professional example, and seemingly the only one who fully grasps Klopp’s ideas about pressing from the front. I also have a strong feeling that he is something of the social glue between the various players of hispanic or portuguese origins. And Salah always plays better with him on the pitch.

I’ve been critical of Gakpo, but this was by far his best game for us. Darwin and particularly Bajcetic excellent. Hendo improved as well. Jota was horrible, but needs playing time to get into the groove again.

Surely, next week’ll be better. -
Nuñez will be a superstar in a couple if years. Gakpo will be playing for Groningen.

Not an excuse, but Tierney has been even worse than his usual dreadful self and I absolutely detest him. -

Bobby Clark will surely win this for us. I think we’ll start with a much younger team than last time, half to send a message and half to rest their old bones… -

Anyone wanting Klopp gone after this, can’t be a Liverpool fan. Let’s just face the fact that this season will be a bit shit and hope for the occasional master performance, hopefully in Champions League. Klopp deserves loyalty and backing of the fans at least well into next year. -

Because I suspect he’d press better and seems to be able to create something, anything. And because I’ve watched several Gakpo-games before he came to us, and never was impressed by him, even when he scored. He just seems a less charming Origi. And, yes, all this is a bit tongue in cheek, as I’m sure Gakpo is better than I have intimated. He must be.
