  1. They were committing 'tactical' fouls all game (wish we did a few more of them). Ayew's was one of those, I'd say. But nowadays people are always looking for a victim to virtue signal about, aren't they? It's everywhere, including sport... On performances, I do think that fatigue is part of it. Look at Newcastle, Brighton, then West Ham recently - even the Scum. -The schedule is too much when you throw in international matches and favours teams not in Europe...?
  2. Yep - can't argue with any of that Dave. I was worried about Gomez at CB for the City game after his display in Naples, but he proved me wrong. Now he has reverted to that Napoli norm. The constant injuries/illnesses mean there can be no consistency in team selection from one week to the next and we cannot build any momentum. It feels like something more than bad luck. Nevertheless we should have won this by 2 or 3 from set piece chances alone. Really disappointing.
  3. Accurate report Dave. It was 'all about the result' wasn't it. I'm with you on Nunez - he will be good, as he has Klopp to develop his game. Apart from Keita, Klopp hasn't made many (any?) transfer mistakes. Stand by for forthcoming explosions...
  4. Organised, pragmatic with a few cynical fouls thrown in - at last.
  5. Seems a bit far fetched given that Nunez has hardly played....
  6. Can't disagree with any of that Dave. I've said for a while that we need to be more pragmatic - including making fouls and taking a yellow 'for the team' on occasions. Same happened v Brighton where we could have sent on an extra defender after we went 3-2 up and closed up shop. That second goal on half time was just ridiculous. We should have played the ball backwards to Allison. We will need something remarkable against City to avoid defeat. Not all that long ago we played them off the park in the Charity Shield with the same group of players - maybe we can pull a rabbit out of the hat with the crowd behind us this time.......even Aston Villa managed to hold them at home...
  7. Can't disagree with any of that Dave. We should be murdering those wasters and the performance was painfully inadequate to do so. Fingers crossed for Saturday then....
  8. Jeez, doesn't take long for the knives to come out does it? If we're in the same position after 33 as opposed to 3 games then there may be some justification in complaining. At one stage last season we were 14 points behind City and according to the know-alls, we were right out of it. Learn from history....
  9. Great report Dave. Thank the Lord you are back. I hadn't realised how boring it was without you!
  10. Yes, they did a Big Sam on us didn't they? A completely unremarkable team that ground its way to a win. Shame, as we should have pissed on them. Anyway, thanks Dave. Couldn't do without your great match reports. Love the site, as I did with the fanzine in the old days. Heads up for the lads and all the supporters...onward and upward for next season.....
  11. Dave, I had us down for the league this season and we just missed out. Predict we will get no 20 next time round. Great report as usual. No 7 in Paris please you mighty boys! All best to everyone...
  12. Great report Dave - really enjoyed it. I grew up own the 1960s and often went to watch Everton when the Reds were away. Those were the days of 'The School of Soccer Science' - and I have a bit of a soft spot for them - but, maybe it's really just nostalgia for my youth. But they are not that sort of club any more. Maybe I will live long enough to see the current bums (did I mean currant buns?) in the National League....
  13. Top report thanks Dave. 10-0 v Newcastle - on the cards I'd say after seeing them at Leicester...
  14. Nothing to add to that report Dave. Currently we are as good as any team in the world - and better than most.... As you said many times, lap it up while we can. The Wheel of Fortune will turn again some day...
  15. Said it many times - best LFC team ever. Another sensational performance from a team currently at the top of its powers. And it doesn't seem to matter who we take off/bring on. Nothing changes; everyone performs at a high level. Klopp is a genius....and we are privileged to have him and the team he has built. After all, but for a simple twist of fate any of us could have been Evertonians.
  16. A bit OTT for my money Dave. Up to this season you only had to breathe on a GK for a foul to be given - their first goal was a bit more than that. Cresswell should have been off, but didn't even get a yellow (did he?). These things surely alter the whole dynamic. I agree that Bowen should have been brought down for goal 2 - we are not remotely cynical enough in those situations - and Allison didn't cover himself in glory for any of their goals I'd say. We were basically beaten by a team who got their tails up using the Big Sam approach. Disappointing, but expect us to bounce back...
  17. Said it before, will say it gain....best team we have ever had....and best manager...
  18. H.L.Mencken "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the population alarmed-and hence clamorous to be led to safety-by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." The subject of our hysteria has been debated at length. It certainly seems to be characteristic of the Anlosphere right now...
  19. Mind-bogglingly brilliant. You won't see many better performances from any team anywhere than that one....
  20. My only reservation about our title chances is the African Nations thing...it's in January isn't it?
  21. Spot on Dave... Yep - it’s got to be an Italy win - please. Ingerlund have been in the easier part of the draw while all the better teams have been knocking each other out in the other half plus all their games bar one have been at home...... Please God this stitch up stops on Sunday..
  22. Yep - forza Azzuri - let’s give the reverend Southgate and his Ingerlund deadbeats a hammering on Sunday..
  23. Nothing to add really Dave. Another game we should have won by a hatful, so that when the opposition do score it would be a case of "no clean sheet this week then..." 4-1 instead of 4-0. The whole world has gone mad and we have been eaten by it...
  24. Yes, FSG have messed up on this - but remember these are the owners that brought in Klopp, set up an excellent player recruitment scheme, redeveloped the stadium and financed a fancy new training complex. Recall the state we were in before they came. My own impression is that on the whole they have tried to do the best for the club - by their own lights . There always seems to be some 'anti-Yank' sentiment just below the surface in the fan base. Maybe the legacy of Gillett and Hicks. The owners of the Spanish and Italian clubs are not Yanks are they. Nor are the owners of City and Chelsea....... If they are forced to sell up, who do we think will take their place? Some Chinese consortium...
