    Coronavirus

On a lighter note not sure what to make of this. It is the mail but it seems the Aussies are going to chase a pigeon around the country because it may have Covid. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9145857/Australia-kill-pigeon-crossed-Pacific-Oregon.html

You're right its irrelevant, I watched it and later on the bbc radio news bulletins gave Boris Johnson saying the food parcels were disgraceful followed by a little segment of him speaking in the commons, followed by a bit of how Starmer challenged the pm to heed the advice given by Marcus Rashford. Although I noted they played the pm speaking and didn't play Starmer speaking and I cant remember Starmer actually saying what they said he said but just hinted towards that direction. That was about it. To the average punter listening to bulletin I listened to Johnson was in command, acknowledged the problem and was sorting it out. This is where media coverage is so important, if you dont get a fair platform you are up against because the public will not give politicians their time and I dont blame them. The most conclusive inquiry into mainstream tv media coverage was done by Cardiff university when Milliband was running (cant remember the date 15?) I know I've mentioned this report a few times on here but the results are imo fucking shocking. The main concern running into that election given by the public was the nhs but it came in about 8th in media coverage The report also showed how tv coverage followed the newspapers, so for example the letter warning about a labour government by business leaders dominated tv coverage for approx three days whereas a letter from senior doctors worried about nhs funding was largely ignored. I'm ranting and I've ranted about this before but with people now dying of covid and our nhs in such need it gets my fucking goat. Edit. A glimpse of how papers control the narrative. https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/ourbeeb/newspapers-not-bbc-led-way-in-biased-election-coverage/

    Poverty in the UK

Someone has paid someone else to cut an onion in half and rap it in cellophane. I'm not only struggling with the moral side I'm still struggling with the cost, efficiency and logistics of this.

So someone has actually cut a tomatoe in half and put a handful of dried whatever it is into a money bag and gave it to a parent to feed a child? I note the use of a money bag. It's almost beyond belief.

Yeah but who's paying to feed a load of taffy kids? Me and you, I'm sure I can see a bottle of fucking wine at the bottom of that pile.

Makes it even more galling that Jo Swinson categorically rulled out working with a Labour government at the last election but kept the door open to an alliance with the Tories. Why Swinson wasnt stopped by the lib dem membership before the last election when she spouted some of the biggest load of bollocks possible only you know. I suppose the question shouldn't be why wasnt she stopped but why was she started?

I sort of agree with you up until your last sentence. Im dont necessarily agree with the policy but agree with the front of making Labour seem economically credible to the average Joe. Back to your last paragraph why not take utilities and rail back into public ownership? A. It's a popular policy. B. Its fairly easy to do. C. It could/should benefit millions of consumers.

It's the fact they've paid someone (obviously a pittance) to cut various items like tomatoes in half that boggles me. Edit..

The swigging the last dregs reminds of when Trump had an argument with Coca Cola and blasted it all over Twitter " I've never seen a thin fella drinking diet coke" was one of Donald's crackers. When coke threatened to sue he hit them with the classic "Seems I've upset the losers who run coca cola but they wont stop me drinking the garbage"

Spot on, I agree with this. Its difficult to be anywhere near to the left with the media as they are in this country.

I can understand people with strong ideals refusing to drift with the circumstances and drawing their line in the sand but these are dangerous times with a dangerous tory government, god help us if Johnson and Gove get a free eight year run. Hopefully they'll fuck it up so much in the next few years that their demise becomes inevitable. As Harold Wilson used to say, the public dont vote governments in they vote them out. I always remember as a kid mucking about outside a polling booth and a tv crew asked an old lady who dressed in red with the bunting and labour rosettes was she was obviously voting Labour 'oh definitely 100% " she said, what is it you like about labour, the reporter then asked "oh nothing' said the old woman "I just can't stand the other cunts" I think at the next election I'll hold my nose and do the same.

The result was an awful lot closer than it should have been. Biden was up against a lunatic who advised Americans to inject bleach.

Shame instead of relying on the messenger to shut down the message the Liberals and Democrats didnt let someone who offered an alternative to America's establishment take on Trump first time round and strangle his philosophy of division at birth. Hilary Clinton was understandably seen as a toxic politician who was part of a political elite who offered little hope to blue collar America. Trump rode in on an anti establishment, anti Clinton card and duly mopped up every vote from disgruntled American voters. The Bernie Sanders v Donald Trump 2026 election was an election of ideals both America and the world were denied, and if the people would have been offered a true choice Trump would have been back doing game shows. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/bernie-sanders-beaten-donald-trump-pre-election-poll-a7412636.html
