That's a relief. Who is? Benfica look like they will be in the CL next year? Interesting in a not-really-interesting sort of way...

Mackay is 3/1 on Paddy Power. Liverpool is much closer to Scotland than Wales too. Are Everton in the EL if Chelsea win it this week?

My first cricket bat was a Sturridge one, so I did.

I was away recently on a lads' weekend and - for some reason - we had an hour or so of retro drinks. Pernod and black, cider and black, vodka and orange (cordial), snakebite and of course malibu and pineapple. Malibu and pineapple is, in case anyone is remotely interested, quite surprisingly unpleasant. You'd think that combination of fruit and coconut would be refreshing - far from it.

I recall him elbowing Alonso in his Watford days so have disliked him since.

I have it on no authority at all that Strachan has been approached. He advised Bill K in connection with the Wizard of Oz musical and they've been close friends since.

Their fans were a disgrace. Jft 39, always the victim, im sure I saw them taunting fans leaving the main stand with aeroplane gestures. Were they asking them to sing about munich song? It was so surreal I was expecting you scouse bastards to be chanted by them as well. 3 mins to start singing the "Always the Victims song". Afterwards shouting "murderers" at Liverpool fans in cars, unpleasant by the Abbey and the Royal Oak in particular. When did these people set the bar for their own personal standards of behaviour so low?

I just took a cursory glance at Newcastle's results and it looks like they've dropped a lot of points in post-EL Sunday games. A few were in games you'd expect them to drop points in, but quite a few aren't. Personally I'd rather Norwich went down.

If Xabi Alonso had never played for Liverpool, but there was talk of him leaving RM and looking to play in England, we would be interested. To say we wouldn't is nonsense.

I was thinking the same thing. If Wigan and Villa lose all their games, and Reading and QPR win all theirs, Reading or QPR will stay up??

The FA Panel Chair was Thura KT Win (Chairman of The FA Women's Premier League).

The reason there was no appeal is that an appeal could only have succeeded if there was evidence that the FA Panel had misapplied the relevant rules (they didn't), that they were biased or partial in some way, or had acted in such a way that no reasonable Panel could have reached the conclusion they did. So no grounds.

I've just read this - "We took into consideration of Mr Suárez's apology, his personal statement, supporting letter from Mr Brendan Rodgers and the letter from [club secretary] Ms Zoe Ward," which is from the FA decision. If that is all that was submitted on behalf of the player, that is staggering. The central issue with this case is the proportionality of the punishment. Proportionality is a central feature of sports disciplinary disputes and arguments about proportional punishments are a speciality of a number of sports lawyers. If we didn't use one then that's probably added at least 3 games to the ban. If that is right someone is seriously incompetent. There is zero chance that Chelsea failed Terry in that respect.

The FA has itself in a bind after Terry's "punishment" for an aggravated race-related insult.

Barring something astonishing, we will have more points than last year and have already scored more goals. And the kit is nicer. But it is still miles off a points total that means anything and we've already let in as many as last year. And the away kits are worse. I'd stick. But I'm the sort that sticks on 16 in the casino.

Viggo Mortensen has been nails in pretty much everything I've seen him in so I am in very little doubt that he'd cut it in the dugout. And I wouldn't fancy being in Mad Martin's shoes after one of his screw-ups when Mads starts bleeding from his eyes.

Bringing on a 38 year old signed from the MLS for the last 10 minutes against Barca when you need a goal. Someone care to explain? Just like old times for Carlo, some bigwig telling him who gets a jersey.
