It could be I was so disappointed with #4 it carried over into #5. I read them one after another with no break in between.

New HBO Series: Game of Thrones

I thought the first three books were fantastic, but the last two were a dog's breakfast. He lost control of everything. I'm hoping they have to stream-line the story for the TV show, and bring it to some sort of timely and coherent conclusion.

    Other football

Created one chance the entire match, and didn't show any ambition to do more than defend after that. Deserved to lose, and would have without a very good save and some good fortune.

Mata looked like a dive for me: saw the train coming and fell down. Hand on his shoulder, but unless it was the Vulcan nerve pinch, no reason to collapse.

My commentator wondered if Chelsea would let him take the penalty for the hat-trick.

Report over here in Canada that they've withdrawn their suit against Purslow etc. and settled with RBS. Hopefully that's the last we see of them.

    Daniel Sturridge

Great to see his first meaningful possession was on their end line, moving past defenders. Can't wait to see him chop and change with Suarez.

FA Cup: Mansfield (h) match thread

Amen. Watching what's been done to Suarez from across the Atlantic has been sickening/fascinating. A witch-hunt, from start to finish. And watching Terry walk away un-touched--if not openly excused--by the English press, just re-inforces that fact.

After that inexplicable call on the winner vs the Blueshite, I could care less. Just win and advance.

Nice one. On his butt, looking to the ref for a foul for a split-second, but then got off his duff, made the run and put it in the net.

    Rodgers Out

I was surprised how much room Sunderland allowed at the back. The pattern for teams like that is usually "line up the bus, try to keep them outside, and then sneak a goal on the counter". I don't know if the direct ball would work too well against teams that do that. It worked well today as there was room for it to work. So perhaps a good adjustment to circumstances, by the players, by Rodgers, or both?

    Sunderland (h) Match Thread

Suarez ran in front of that ball from Allen, then clipped it forward with his foot behind him to get it past the defender. On purpose. I see players doing that because they've mistimed their run, or the pass is off, but he did it to maintain his momentum to beat the defender.
