Belgium up 2-0 over Croatia at half. Lukaku with both. Should be an interesting second half.

Do you want England to qualify for the World Cup?

Happens to be a player I like/admire. As the captain of the team, I'd like to see him lead it to the World Cup.

Do you want England to qualify for the World Cup?

Yep. For Gerrard. Besides, my first two choices, Canada and Scotland aren't in it (or likely to be in one anytime soon). I need someone to support.

    Boardwalk Empire

Was thinking the same thing--like they played out an entire story line in one episode. Thought the story with the nephew was very good--the way they scripted it was excellent.

More impressed with Norwich than Chelsea. One error by the defender decided the match, and to that point, Chelsea were out-played and out-chanced. They look lazy, uninspired.

All that hard work and they give the match away.

Norwich down a goal, but controlling play in the second half. Mourinho--still a cunt.

Penalty not called on Chelsea. But the ref hasn't made a call against them all match, so no surprise.
  12. Much better display by Sterling for me. Showed some strength, got stuck in a bit in defense.
  13. Suarez again. Looked like he was trying to bank that one in off Moses.
  14. Poor defending, but Suarez is relentless.

    The Wire Thread

Looks like the series is being re-broadcast on HBO Canada starting tonight (Oct 4). Been looking forward to this.

    Fowler, McManaman and Jones

BBC reporting it now. (Though he never left, and couldn't leave, as far as I'm concerned.)

Martinez in attendance at Wigan's Europa match. I wonder if he went to their first Championship match as well?

    Ray Donovan

Loved it. Didn't see the first few episodes, but his wife's over-broad accent aside, thought it was great.

    The United States Government shutdown.

No need to invade. They already own us, lock stock and barrel (oil variety). I don't know where they're heading, but I can't get over the fact that so many of their politicians think that their role is to promote their own particular ideological position, without any sort of consideration for the bigger picture--economy, infrastructure, ecology, etc. Reminds me of a quote from Game of Thrones, the one about Littlefinger seeing the country burn so long as he could rule over the ashes.

Hmmm. Pressure about to shift from Moyes to Pellegrini? I know it's early days, new team, new league, etc. But they look completely disorganized.

    The United States Government shutdown.

I think they had a constitutional argument against it. BUT: Though it took some real contortions, the Supreme Court (and a right-leaning court at that) said it was constitutional. Obama was subsequently re-elected as well. They really don't have any legitimate reason to do what they're doing. The problem is, a lot of their constituency couldn't give a fuck about democracy, the constitution, or anything beyond their own ingrained prejudices. They see a black Kenyan communist in the White House, and anyone who does anything to thwart him, is a patriot, and a hero.
  22. Watching the CL pre-match and he's quoting himself re not enough players on his team being good enough to win the CL. Surprised no one's had a word with him as to how weak that makes him sound.

Kolo Toure is better than Chuck Norris.

    Time waits for Kolo.

    Chemical Weapons

Ironic, and more than a bit disheartening, that the issue (chemical weapons and the broader civil war) has lasted longer on this thread than it has in the real world. Obama thumped his chest, his supporters joined in, in rhythm, his opposition hooted the counter-point, and the whole thing quickly faded into the background noise. The killing, by whatever method, goes on. And after all the posturing, no one does a damn thing about it.

Turned into a real snoozer. I wish they'd stagger these early fixtures--let a person watch more than one match/increase ad revenue.
