    Worst show on TV?

Another vote for The One Show. It appears to be about nothing.

We Have To Accept Some Harsh Facts

He's one of our better players. Now whilst that is a worry, as he's not a great player himself, he's the least of our worries. We currently have the 3rd best defensive record in the league, and the joint (with WestcuntingBrom) 9th most goals scored. So possibly its not Lucas' fault. But actually, Suarez aside, every single player that plays ahead of him. You know, the ones whose job it is to create and score goals.

You sure? I mean we drew 0-0, surely its the holding midfielder's fault?

    Messi better than Maradona?

Hmm, agree to disagree as you're not being exactly fair to what I've written.

    Messi better than Maradona?

Hang on, what? Where have I said it isn't close? Clearly neither of us can be proved right. Because we could simply select different criteria. Baresi was better than both of them.

    Messi better than Maradona?

    Argentina wouldn't have the ball.

    Messi better than Maradona?

I really don't think Messi needs to go and play for a shit team to prove his quality. The characters of both him and Maradona, and the circumstances that have arisen, have determined where they'll (or did) play their club football. Messi owes a lot to Barcelona, and now, in my opinion, will never leave. He's not going to fall out with the club at any point. Neither is he going to start hanging out with gangsters, or become a coke head. I'd imagine he loves playing for a successful team, that plays beautiful football, in a great stadium, in a great city etc. He also clearly puts club before country. Something Maradona, despite his affection for Napoli, didn't. In Argentina a lot of people even consider Messi to be Spanish. The current strength of the Spanish side is also far superior to anything Argentina had to face in 86. It probably is the best national team ever. I'm not convinced Maradona would single handedly win a World Cup in this era. I'm not sure its possible to come to any worthwhile conclusion. They played 20/25 years apart, in very different eras of football. Would have been interesting to see Maradona at his peak play in this current Barcelona side, ditto Messi in a relatively weak Napoli side. But had the players swapped eras it just wouldn't have happened. Maradona would eventually fall out with someone at the club (like he did), and Messi probably wouldn't be too keen on hanging out with the mafia. Two extremely similar footballers. Two extremely different men. I'd love to have seen either play in England.
  11. Probably wouldn't pick those four if you wanted it to be "fluid". Maybe - Downing Gerrard Bellamy Suarez

    Swansea (Home)

Start Maxi on the left. Bellamy on with 20/25 minutes left.

Perhaps your student mentality is not having anything to say about yourself.

  18. Can't really get my head round this. Doesn't even seem real.

    Raul Meireles

Yes. Or the new crop, M'Vila, Matuidi etc Interesting that Toure appears to play as a second striker now.

    Raul Meireles

Me neither. I think he does an important, yet quite simple role. Its certainly not a position in this league that is likely to determine success. Which is why I find it so odd that some fans place such significance on his selection. Despite critics of him, and our defence, our main problem is scoring goals.

    Raul Meireles

Its probably worth pointing out that I wasn't making an entirely serious point. Nor do I have any idea how long Lucas will stay at the club. But really, its fucking sad that you think if he plays it means we won't win a trophy. In your opinion, is he the weakest player in the squad? In the team even? When we sign the archetypal French holding midfielder will we start to crush all before us?

    Raul Meireles

I'm only speaking from a general impression of other fans I've spoken to, and read the views of on here. Meireles' perceived quality improved the moment it was felt his replacement was Adam. I don't think whether or not Adam or Henderson works out is the point really. I'm talking about the impression people had when the transfers went through, and up until now. Its possible to think Meireles is a better player than Henderson and Adam, but think long term it might work out. I guess my view is different in that I don't really rate Meireles or Adam. But I think regardless, Adam and Meireles probably couldn't have been at the club at the same time. Neither were going to play holding midfield, that will be Lucas. Neither were going to take Gerrard's position when he's fit, and now as we seem to be playing with just two central midfielders, you couldn't play both even when Gerrard isn't playing.

Lucas will be a fixture in the team for the next five years. Five years. Let in sink in. Embrace it.
  24. Jairzinho

    Raul Meireles

I don't think your opinion is exactly the norm on this, especially considering your particularly special views on Lucas. A lot of people think Meireles was replaced with a worse player. Had we signed someone like Martinez or Banega no-one would give a shit about Meireles.

    Raul Meireles

I think a lot of the pining for Meireles is due to his replacement, and not rating him. Which is fair enough.
