  1. Flame away but... Downing is not only class but very useful. Top work rate off the ball. Bar Stevie is probably the next best player of a crossfield ball. Enrique maybe. OK Suarez is above but not found as often in the position to do so. With Sturridge now in the team we have someone to get on the end of his quality and quantity of crosses. We've looked our best with an unbalanced team. One side more geared to defend/sit off the box and cross while the other side looks to penerate the box with the ball on the deck. Enrique/Coutinho to Downing/Johnson. Both Downing and Johnson can deliver/cut inside and shoot and cover each other well. Is a solid professional. Not media shit. Works hard at his game. Reasonable short game and good ball retention under pressure. I think he fits our system very well. And offers a Henderson, Allen, Lucas like tenacity but on the wing which none of our other wide-mid players have. Very useful when you want to send your full back forward. Maybe i should read the whole thread. But can anyone sum up his bad points? Tracking his man when on the back post? (when playing LB). Others?
  2. That 1st 'from' in the second line is pretty silent btw. Also. Yes x100 for getting Chris Rea sung. Think it would sound epic. I love unchanged songs, its got meaning to our club and the original lyrics arent that far removed from a football theme (or am i imagining that?). And you're, right 30th aniversary too. Its not that complicated a song either and if not everyone wants to learn the verse then it would even sound good even if most people just joined in for the chorus. Has potential to be a proper feel good song i think.
  3. ^^ dont know that. Will check it out. Will have to listen to Dire Straits again and imagine it sung by The Kop What's titanium too? Ive semi (couldnt think of an end to the 2nd last line) done one for Coutinho to 'This Land...' Original lyrics then mine: This land is your land, this land is my land From California to the New York Island, From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf stream waters, [This land was made for you and me.] Philippe Coutinho, he came from Rio From De Janeiro to the famous Anfield From his back-heel passes, (to his great new song), [This lad was made for LFC] Also. Dunno if Henderson has a song yet. But how about the old Pet Shop Boys 'Go West'. Just repeat over and over 'jordan, jordan hen-der-son' ad infinitum. Solid repetitive, kinda like his general play? (which i love).
  4. I love it. How about the ' aw a oh' bit = coo-teen-iho Not as spelt obv. Bit early?
  5. Thread resurrect alert!! Here some songs which have sprung to mind lately that I think would sound tops sung at Anfield. Woody Guthrie - This Land Is Your Land Are there any current songs to go to this tune? Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer Think the chorus could be epic... lu lu lu, lu lu lu lu lu lu lu, luis suarez (or similar?) Billy Joel - We didn't start the fire Think we could do a great run down of our history using this song. I'm working on one for each of the years we won the Euro cup. "Kevin Keegan, Cilla Black, Red Leader, Terry Mac,.... etc...." (1977) Not easy though.... help anyone? And lastly this should defo be sung... even as is. Part of our history even without alteration, so maybe we can just sing as it? Chris Rea - I don't know what it is but I love it Anyone like the idea of any of those?
  6. Ditto Souness. Man I hated him in charge. lol. I get what your saying. I just think he needs time and probably more than 1-2 seasons. There's no be all to end all way to play football. You just need to have a system, players that are able to carry it out and belief that your system will work. It doesn't matter what it is you are doing it will always take time and repetition to perfect what you are doing. All the people at the top of their professions list determination as a major factor in achieving success. I dunno. I'm just waffling shit no doubt. I'm just gutted we aren't competing. But I don't wholly blame Rodgers. I do think he's still got a lot to learn, and thats just domestically. I dread what our 1st season back in the CL will be like. I think I'm more angry at the lack of movement in the board room. Ayre needs help. And not just in the form of new media types. It is difficult being the LFC manager atm. So lets be the best supporters we claim to be and help him and team along. Voice our support at games and also try and have that winning mentality as well. We're all in this together. Nowt wrong with voicing concerns and opinions but leave the past there and lets try and move forward. Together. As LFC. One funking great football club. Again, sorry if this is all misplaced crap. A guy in the pub the other day said he felt sorry for LFC supporters. I told him not to as we support the best club in the world. I also feel we need a new song. FOAR got us to Istanbul, 5times and FOAR worked for season or so after and the Torres Bounce after that. But since then we've not had an anthem we can all latch onto and get Anfield bouncing again. Gotta go for din dins so /waffle. ta ra fellow reds.
  7. I haven't read the thread so whatever I write might be out of context, apologies if so. I just wanted to say I love LFC. I am proud to be associated with it, if only as a supporter. That's what I do, support my team. That's my job. It's Suarez's job to score goals, Agger's to stop them and Brendan's to gel it all together in one cohesive manner. Personally I think we are all failing. Why live in the past? Do you constantly talk to your g/f or wife about your exes? What's in the past is in the past. Learn from your mistakes for sure but don't just harp on about it just to vent off. I see a lot of similarities between Arsenal and ourselves in terms of mentality. When Theo equalised against us the other day, real winners would have grabbed the ball from the net, legged it to the half way line with the intent and determination to win the game. Instead they celebrated like they had won. Especially considering how much they were swarming all over us that half. Watching the Manc's v Madrid the other day just shows how far we are in terms of a well drilled outfit. I don't think Fergie had planned to score so early and it must have changed their approach to the game. They adapted well and any deficiencies in system were countered through grit and desire to win. Rodgers has been here 8-9 months now. That is nothing when it comes to getting a group drilled on how he wants them to perform in any given scenario. At the start of this season we looked like children trying to play football as no one really knew which positions to take up when player x was on the ball. Now we are much more comfortable with out positioning. We have even changed systems in games and adapted well. There is so much more to learn, especially from a defensive and containment point of view. Hopefully over time all players will know what is expected of them in all situations that they may get into on the pitch. It may well be that this could take years and that certain players wont be here anymore by the time the whole team is so well drilled. Rafa started the overhaul of the academy, now Rodgers has changed the way the kids play to suit his style. I have faith that slowly all our players through the levels will learn and have drilled into them how to respond when on and off the ball in all situations. Personally I'm not sold on our new style of play. We seem only to do well against teams that are willing to also try and play the ball on the deck nicey nicey. Against counter attacking teams and bullys we don't have an answer. yet. I'm hoping it's only a matter of time though. Like I said, we seen a definite improvement from the start of the season when players from our old system found it hard to grasp what was required. Now that they have I'm hoping we can develop new aspects to our game so we can beat the bullies and counter attackers. Couple that with better off the ball organisation and maybe we will win more consistently. Because at the moment it seems like our success is at the mercy of the oppo and not in our own hands. Hopefully once we start winning more consistently it will develop a winners mentality. I remember in 2005/6 season after Istanbul. We would regularly go 1-2 goals down, but we had the winning belief that we could pull it back. We didn't panic and we just kept the pressure up and sure enough we would win. How many games did we score 4 goals that season and the next? I saw the same thing at Chelsea the beginning of this season. But something went wrong there. I guess that was down to player power but cant say for certain. Either way, they've certainly lost that now. Looking at the mancs, they have that mentality drilled into them from day one. The older experienced players impose it on the new recruits and the cycle continues. This is our ultimate goal. So hopefully, once Rodgers has a squad he can call his own and they are all well versed on how he wants them to play then we can develop that winning mentality. Sorry for the random waffle. I love Kenny, was a kid when he left the 1st time and didn't really understand the politics of it all so felt let down by him. I love Rafa and Ged for what they done for the club. Hopefully Rodgers will be my man crush for the next 10-20 years as he brings back a winning mentality and pretty football to boot. We all love LFC no doubt so here are some wedding vows to do with love (from wiki) I, ____, take you, ____, to be my (husband/wife). I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.
  8. Yet another instance where The FA think they are outside and above the law? "The interim guidelines thus protect the individual from threats or targeted harassment while protecting the expression of unpopular or unfashionable opinion about serious or trivial matters, or banter or humour, even if distasteful to some and painful to those subjected to it." From... DPP launches public consultation on prosecutions involving social media communications Obviously as a global brand it's not good for LFC to allow players to have free reign over their twitter if posting under their real identity. However, some sense should prevail and the club should maybe point to the CPS' statements to show up the FA (never gonna happen due to fear of reprisal and the power the FA holds over all clubs) but also accept the charge and pay on behalf of Suso just to not make a moutain from a mole hill.
  9. This may be reading into things too much but during a long break in play vs Spurs Rogers was having a word with Sterling. Sterling's face as he turned away didn't looked like he was impressed. Personally I think he's been playing worse since the Swansea game. I feel sorry for the lad. At 17 he's got to make a call on something that will shape his future. I hope his advisors have his best interests at heart. Personally I think he should stay and learn from Suarez like RVP did with Berkamp.

Can we rewind and have another look at Figueroa's yellow card on Sterling late in the 1st? If anyone can find the footage it'd be interesting to compare that challenge to Luis's. Got a wee feeling posthumous yellow coming up. FA doing what they do best again?
  11. "Herbert also accused the FA of a lack of interest in the Tottenham matter, saying: "This is an appalling abdication of responsibility by the FA. It's a complete disgrace that they have stayed silent on this. There is an inertia from the FA over racism and anti-Semitism. You can't go and complain about racism and anti-Semitism in Serbia and then have it happening in your own back yard." Press Association Sport is awaiting reply from the FA over Herbert's comments." This for me is the only relevant thing from the Black Lawyers. So, what if someone takes offence to the word 'Black'? Are they gonna dob themselves in? AF certainly took offence to that word, or was that the FA? I'm mixed asian/white, a coloured guy. Apparently I'm not allowed to refer to myself as 'coloured' these days. WTF? It's actually gotten to a point where I don't have a clue what racism is anymore, I thought I knew, once. It certainly isn't being referred to by your nationality or religion. I personally don't think referring to someone as what they ARE is anything wrong either. Black, white, gay, jew, tosser, nice guy, blonde haired, big titted, etc.... are we trying to make life harder? The FA and the media have lapped this up for their own personal gains. And when people do things like that they spiral out of control and have the potential to become monsters. No one has tackled the issue of racism as a separate entity, not confused by sporting rivalry and the culture of bad sportsmanship in football (in my opinion one of the very things that added passion to the British game that helped it become the monolith it is now with £200k weekly wages, international tv deals etc... digression...). Johnny Barnes tried to start a reasoned debate but his voice was drowned out by sensationalist journalism guiding their readers to a common opinion on who was and wasn't a racist. I'd love for someone to start a thread on racism. Just get everyone to say what they think racism is. Be interesting to see opinions. John Barnes said racism is an invention, in a way it is. But I also think there is no denying the differences between all people. Diversity and individualism should be celebrated. For me racism is about oppression, suppression of a person according to their skin colour. There's other isms for nationality and religion. The problem with the debate opening up is that where does it now end? Is racism worse than discriminating by nationality or religion? Does that mean 'coloured' people need more protection from the bad things in the world than say, women or jews or Spanish people? Isn't that just inferring the 'coloured' people are in fact inferior to those groups? Surely a perverse form of racism in itself. You can see what I'm getting at though. It's strange waters we're entering if you ask me. But then again, maybe it will all die down once the media decide the story has lost appeal. Sorry if this is a bit of a rant. Just wanted to put my thoughts out there. One last thing. Going back to the SBL and the whole self (racial) abuse. My mate said to me the other day "It's OK for them to use the word n*****", referring to popular R&B culture. I thought, whats more racist in that statement; the word 'n*****', or the word 'they'? YNWA. If we apply that to everyone this discussion goes away. PS. I why do I always get logged out mid rant? lol
  12. Well... owning and funding issues aside. I'm please we're staying at Anfield. My biggest concern over any new stadium is that we start to build it and just when it gets completed attendances across the leagues start to drop and we can't make use of the extra seats and can't pay for the stadium. I just can't see people forking out to watch football if the economy worsens and ticket prices keep going up. With that in mind... here's an interesting link. 14. Sorry, haven't read the whole thread. Hope this is appropriate and in keeping... I swear the BBC had a piece last week or so about refs AGAIN telling players to go down if they want to win a free kick... kinda similar to this story from last year. Be more dishonest and you¿ll win more free-kicks, referee Webb tells fall guys Tangerines ahead of Liverpool clash | Mail Online Anyone find the more recent story? Personally, I think Luis had every right to do down. He was clipped. Was it worthy of a pen. That's up to the ref. Can't see how Luis can get retro-banned when the ref clearly saw it. lol.
