  1. Went out for a long run on Saturday morning with no real route in mind. Ended up heading towards the footy grounds and then decided to look at the new pit at BMD. From there headed along the waterfront. Never done a 30k before so realised I would be on track for that as I headed home and then added a bit extra to get me over the 20 mile mark! 32.25km - so just over the 20 miles - was made up with that - 3:05 hours
  2. Yeah. A few people have said that. I’ve done upto 18 miles in the past without feeling too bad the day after etc. Decision to be made in the next couple of weeks - I was hoping to get to 1st April as that’s my Forest Gump day (in the movie he ran for 3 years, 2 months and 14 days)! Main focus is just completing the distance - my first (and probably only) marathon, although I have got my eye on around 4 hours. Will be running for Marina Dalglish Appeal as one of our closest friends is just going through her recovery from breast cancer and they also donated to Broadgreen urology department for a robot that was used on my dad a few years back.
  3. Completed 3 years of my running streak today. Well chuffed and still can’t believe I have managed to maintain this every day! Weather the last couple of days has been a challenge but still managed to get out. Got my very first marathon (Manchester) in April and I’m hoping I can still keep the streak going during my training
  4. Managed to complete my 1000 day streak last Saturday! The family made a bit of a fuss, along with my local running group! Started on 18th January 2021 - ran a minimum of 5K per day, a total I have clocked up 8,423km (5,233 miles). The streak is continuing - I have no intention to try and match this in the future so gonna clock up as high as I can get!
  5. Thanks - not sure I could have maintained that pace for another 10 miles on Sunday but well on track for sub 4 hours, which I would happily take! Focus is now on my running streak - I have ran a minimum of 5km per day since 18th January 2021 and I am due to hit day 1000 this coming Saturday.
  6. Did the Chester metric marathon yesterday. Been debating whether to try a full marathon and saw this as a tester - its 27km instead of miles (16.7 miles). Was hoping for around 2:30 but crossed the line in 2:17 - well chuffed, especially with it being quite warm yesterday. Was a pretty enjoyable run with a few inclines thrown in. Our route joined in with the full marathon route for about the last 8/9km and it was a bit unnerving seeing some of the marathon runners pulling up/having to stop for breaks - seen two of them needing medical attention. Despite that, I think it has made me realise I probably can do a full marathon - hopefully next year.
  7. Our work changed the company car scheme - now its a "sustainable" car scheme and open to all staff. I initially dismissed it as they looked expensive but when doing the maths properly, it worked out a little cheaper than what I was paying for my company car. I took delivery of a Ford Kuga plug in hybrid last month. The gross payment for the lease is £590pm - but that is deducted before tax and NI, so I make a saving there of £248. When I then add the benefit in kind on of £102, it works out at £445 net each month. I looked at Octopus but their customer service put me off just trying to get answers to some simple questions. I am with e-on - they had an EV tariff so I switched to that (not tied in) and my daily charge p/kwh increased slightly but I get an overnight charge of 9.5p p/kwh (which is for all electric - so have been using the timer on the dishwasher and washing machine where possible to capitalise on that as well). I had my annual figures from e-on and put them into a spreadsheet and made some assumptions on how often I would charge the car - my current tariff (on last years figures) was £145 - the new tariff increased that to £157. However, if I then factor in an assumption of how often I would charge the car per month, that should cost around £20pm, as opposed to £65 on my previous tariff, so should save me £36pm by switching (Octopus would have been another £11pm cheaper based on them figures).
  8. I’ve used these a number of times. https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/ just need to upload information from your prescription. Also take measurements from your existing frame (there’s a set of 3 numbers on the arm usually) and you can find frames of a similar size. I’ve ordered extra for leaving in various rooms around the house and also a cheap prescription pair of sunglasses for holiday.
  9. Great effort that. I managed an 8.5 mile run on Friday - was averaging around 9.26 per mile, but the lad I was running with is heart zone training for an ultra he is doing in September so wanted to do a slower pace. Did a 10km on Sunday, 8.45 per mile, which I was happy with considering I had been at a 21st the night before!
  10. I was dreading running in Vegas after reading the reports before going but it wasn’t too bad in the end. Although it was hot I was taking fluids with me and never really felt any levels of being uncomfortable. 1000 days falls on Saturday 14th October. Should I make it then it will probably be my local parkrun at Croxteth Park with my local running group. Still a long way to go though.
  11. Managed to keep my running streak going during a week in Vegas. I’m an early riser anyway so managed to get out for a run each day before it got too hot - was in low 30’s around 8am. Even managed to get a 10km in, up and down the strip - to the Stratosphere and back. The time difference and the flight times meant I had a late run when I got back home last night to hit 920 days for my streak.
  12. Nothing on tv and was browsing YouTube and this came up on my homepage - his Barcelona gig earlier in the year. After reading recent reviews, I thought I’d give it a go. About halfway through now and it’s been pretty decent quality. https://youtu.be/gCG4SwTc11A
  13. Got knock-backs yesterday for the London marathon and also the 2nd ballot for the London landmarks half. On a more positive note - yesterday was my 900th consecutive day of running minimum 5km per day. Determined to try and get a comma in that figure now - would be 14th October if I can make it to the 1000. Going to Vegas the week after next so gonna be a struggle to keep it going there but hoping to manage it!
  14. Cheers mate! And well done with the 10 miler time. just had a quick look, I am in same range as you. I have finally made a decision to do a marathon - entered London and my son in law knows someone who works on it and has said that they can arrange for me to deffo get the ballot. Will be hoping for just under 4 hours and that’s in that range.
  15. Well done! That was mine until last weekend, when I knocked another second off! I was running the Run for the 97 but was going away for the weekend so did it virtually, around Croxteth Park parkrun route. Was made up as I don’t normally get to that pace in a solo run. What’s the predictor site you reference - can you share a link please?
  16. I was in Leicester last weekend for a Marillion weekend. They did two really good shows but I think I secretly preferred the tribute bands I saw in the afternoons doing the Fish-era stuff - Stillmarillion and My Punch. Added bonus from Mr Punch who did a full Grendel and then a brilliant rendition of Return of the Giant Hogweed as one of the encores
  17. The stage was in a ridiculous position - it left a very narrow corridor along Lime Street, making it practically impossible to get from one side to the other. I’d come in via Gate C from St John’s Lane- my missus and her mates had come in gate a on London road. I gave up and just met them afterwards. Queues for the bar were ridiculous and at £8 for a small can of Estrella I didn’t bother. Aside from that the show was excellent and great for the city. Just a shame FGTH only did the one song
  18. tonight is potentially their last top flight game under floodlights there
  19. Did the Mersey Tunnel 10km this morning. First time I’d done a race at that distance - had an unofficial PB of 48:35 from running that distance locally. Tough start with getting boxed in the crowd at the beginning and then the uphill element of the tunnel and access road once through the tunnel but felt happy with my pace one I got on the waterfront (the new stadium looks huge from the other side, was quite surprised at that!). Didn’t look at my watch until I’d crossed the line and was delighted with a time of 46:40!
  20. In a similar vein, my missus is a nurse and was given some tickets for a Gary Barlow show at the arena as NHS thank you and she took me along. Thought I’d hate it but it wasn’t that bad at all. In general answer to the question, I went to see Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott in Glastonbury last year. Always liked the odd Beautiful South song the but the gig from start to finish was superb, was proper blown away by it to the point I went to see them 4 weeks later in St Helens and the set list from that show is one of my post played Spotify playlists now
  21. Had a few days where I've had to figure out how and when to get it done - like going on holiday, early flights etc! Also my 2nd bout of COVID came after rules had been relaxed so I was allowed out and was feeling fin - I live right next to Croxteth Park so plenty of routes in there where not many people around Cheers! Thats how it started - with a RED January - but we had to isolate for a week due to my daughter getting COVID so once I got out I was in the mindset of "do RED February" instead........ and on and on it went! I only started running in 2019 but lockdown and working from home made me get into it more. Lost 2.5 stone and had to buy a new set of clothes - the fear of putting that back on and having to go up a size again is another motivation! Thats not a bad time at all for a half - well done!! Haha - worth thinking about! I am an early riser any way so was up and out quite early through the festival site each day last year - got a few funny looks from people on their way back to tents from the night before! A few people on my own FB have said about how I have inspired - its weird as I never meant to be doing that but if it does encourage others then thats fine by me! If anyone is interested, feel free to follow me on Strava
  22. Posted on here a couple of times about my running streak. Yesterday I hit day 800 of consecutive days of running at least 5km per day. Pretty chuffed, got no real target in mind, just keeping on with it as I know I will never get to this sort of number again. Been a good motivation to get out the house - regardless of the weather. 900 days seems the next obvious target, which would take me to 6th July - which would mean running every day while at Glastonbury (again!).
  23. you must get the same train as me - cant say I have noticed but no doubt will next week when I am in again. On a similar note, on the way home, they seem to have really maxed the volume for Whiston and Wavertree Technology Park when reading the stations out - knocked me out of my kip on the way home yesterday!
  24. Yeah, around 36 miles a week. I work from home so usually do a 7km (4.5 mile) route around Croxteth Park (on my doorstep) on my lunch hour and then up it at the weekends to anything over 10km (usually around 7-8 miles). Return to the office was a challenge, I work in Manchester so have found a couple of routes along the canals (usually upto the Etihad and back).
  25. Good end to the year this week. At the start of the year, I set myself a target of 2500km for the year - reached that at the end of October so revised my target to 3000km and hit that on Tuesday. Also, completely unplanned at the start of the year but the longer the year has gone on it became a target - today’s run meant that I have ran at least 5km every day in 2022! To cap it off, today’s run was at my local parkrun and I managed to shave 3 seconds of my PB as well, clocking 22:22. Feeling pretty chuffed!
